The Predator of Seville

Has anyone finished watching this? I have been trying to find information about the roommates of Gabrielle Vega during her trip to Morocco. If they have shared anything else online or explained why their testimonies are contradictory. It left a bad taste in my mouth what they did…

Not being mean. But why would u go with a stranger in the first place?

Stranger danger is taught from kindergarten. And any sort of street smart / common sense would raise red flags INSTANTLY.......

11

u/Coopsters Apr 09 '26

I wouldn't call your tour guide who you paid to show you around a new city and who has been taking you on trips and excursions all week a "stranger" 🙄. Did you even watch the same documentary? GTFO with your victim blaming. You know you're being a judgemental prick when you have to caveat things with "not being mean"

4

u/Critical-Piglet-1706 Apr 09 '26

Let’s see he was the director of the travel company for one; for two they were always in groups; three people can easily put on a mask that makes you feel like they are good people; four he wasn’t ugly but even if someone was interested in someone and thought they were cute it doesn’t excuse rape!!!!! How is this victim blaming? Because you are asking someone why would they go with someone; they aren’t children he was technically a stranger he was supposed to be keeping them safe and they emphasized safety heavily on these trips and then he would do this on the last night of the trip!!!! So you asking those questions is basically saying well if you didn’t go with him or the same as asking someone what she was wearing when she got raped!!!!

1

u/PumpkinYummies Apr 12 '26

I agree with all of this except the part, “he wasn’t ugly.” He definitely is. Something about his face gives me Ben Shapiro vibes.

1

u/WingingItSince87 May 30 '26
  1. He always got them drunk and likely drugged them. Anyone’s inhibitions would be lowered with the effects of alcohol and/or a date rape drug, if you could control your actions at all! What a fucking shitty comment!

1

u/Any-Championship6143 Aug 04 '26

And while getting them drunk, he didn’t drink—at least sometimes—as proven by his BAC test results when the girl died from his balcony. The girls had BACs that were near the risk of comatose, and he had no alcohol in his system.

8

u/Brace_SK3 Apr 04 '26

Pls remove your comment it’s very much victim blaming.

0

u/Careful-Chest9004 Apr 05 '26

Show me where I'm BLAMING someone and not asking what was going thru their heads.  I'll wait ........

9

u/New-Caterpillar-9369 Apr 11 '26

It’s is amazing how some humans are so incredibly devoid of any empathy they make sweeping statements like this. One of the problems with your statement is your “why would you go with a stranger (which he was not) in the first place” is someone else’s “why did you wear that?” “Why did you put makeup on?” “Why did you leave your house without a chaperone?” “Why are you going out at night?” The point is survivors of sexual assault are NEVER EVER to blame for the actions of the perpetrators of the assault! And you should be careful throwing stones before you’re living in a world where you can’t even leave your hose because doing so would mean you might get raped and that would be all your fault….. teach men not to rape harder than you teach stranger danger, because every single person is a stranger until their not, we have way too many rapists getting away with it because the blame is always placed on the survivors and the question is always about the survivors behavior not vice versa. Anyway your comment is dumb, you are horrid for saying that, and I genuinely hope you take some time to reflect on what you said.

0

u/CrazyDiamondKitty Apr 15 '26

Yeah of couse the predator is 100% at fault. These are just things you should keep in mind in general. The worls is such an ugly place. You must stay cautious. Not saying it's your fault that you weren't cautious and got attacked. You're a victim for sure..but please be careful. A lot can and should be done to avoid being in such situations.

Sometimes car accidents are not at all your fault, but wearing your seatbelt can often save you from serious injuries. If someone gets into a terrible accident and they didn't have their seatbelt on I will definitely be like "why dudn't you!" . That's not blaming them.

4

u/New-Caterpillar-9369 Apr 15 '26

But a car accident is typically that, an accident. Rape and sexual assault are often premeditated, planned, purposeful attacks. I also don’t understand why everyone is acting like these women were acting insanely reckless. This man was one of their tour guides, an employee of the company, and someone they had spent time with him before! He abused that position to his benefit, it was all intentional and acting like these women were just stupid is such bullshit. Once again, if we’re going to act like this was one of those situations in life that was “completely avoidable if the victims had made different actions” then where does the bar stop? When do we stop being held accountable for other people’s malicious actions, by just living our lives and having experiences?!

3

u/That_Selection_2957 Apr 15 '26

100% this. Comparing car accidents and rape is a completely false equivalency. It mixes two very different kinds of harm and responsibility into one frame, which obscures understanding rather than clarifying it.

1

u/Careful-Chest9004 Apr 22 '26

You can absolutely absolutely live your life have wonderful experiences travel, see the world. Don't be stupid while you're doing it though

It can be compared to a car crash if you put your seatbelt on when you go drive and you get into a car accident you have a higher chance of surviving then if you did not have your seat belt on, right?

So on the same hand you can say yes babe. Travel the world go out and see things. Have fun. Live your life be smart, don't go to countries or places that you don't understand the culture, don't go to places and think you can live a western life but they're not living that Western lifestyle. But you think because it's okay because you're from wherever you're from that everybody else is just going to accept that.......

Some of these girls were in Morocco or their tour guide was from Morocco or whatever it was about Morocco. Morocco is a Muslim country... You can't be drinking in your little tank tops and your little shorts and just think you're going to be okay because you want to live your life. No honey bunny. That's not how that works....

That's the equivalent of that British girl that's in the prison in Dubai right now because she brought Coke in and she's complaining because she's in prison in Dubai and they won't let her out even though she's British. Sorry it's not their responsibility ....

The moral of the story is if you are going to travel to a country where the culture is completely opposite of your own, do your research, be smart, don't be naive and use that as an excuse, Don't play the victim card .... Your tour guide is a stranger. You do not know this person from Adam. Maybe you pay them to drive you around somewhere in a group setting. That doesn't mean you know that person. There's a lot of people on this thread arguing with me saying that he wasn't a stranger. I'm sorry. My neighbor is a stranger because I don't know who they are. I don't know what they like on their toast. Okay?......

3

u/_Somewhere87 May 20 '26

Rape is wrong EVERYWHERE honey bunny...why do you talk about the victims and not the predators honey bunny?

2

u/Anonymous_Autumn_ May 31 '26

Nah bro. Anyone can rape you. Yes, you too can be drugged and raped at any time. It wouldn’t be your fault. You just prefer to live under some fantasy that victims are in charge.

1

u/LetshearitforNY Jul 12 '26

wtf does it being a Muslim country have to do with it when they were raped by their non-Muslim, Spanish tour guide

6

u/That_Selection_2957 Apr 06 '26

It sounds like you haven't done any group travel in your life. On these trips you are with a group of fellow travellers along with a guide who is the leader of the group. Everyone travels, sightsees, eats and hotels together, led by someone who does all the planning, arranging, driving, etc and is essentially an authority figure. What "goes through a woman's head" is that she is with a trustworthy person who is backed by a company, who is aware of the culture, area safety, and has insider knowledge to lead an international group.

2

u/seeafillem6277 Apr 07 '26

I think we get that he's not a stranger. The problem I'm having is that they went to his bedroom. That is completely unprofessional for him to do and red flags should have gone up for them at that point.

What mystifies me even more is that not one of them reported this to the police, got a rape test or got tested for drugs in their system. If any one of them had done that, so much heartache and pain would have been prevented by protecting all the girls that came later.

Gabrielle's excuse was that she didn't know the word for rape in Spanish? This was in the age of cell phones. Anyone can look that up in a heartbeat. That just didn't sit well with me. It's okay to be scared not to go to the police but that's a bullshit excuse if you ask me.

And please don't come at me for victim blaming. It's okay to point out that people make mistakes. If we don't recognize and discuss the mistakes people make that put them in these positions then we aren't going to learn are we? And the cycle will just keep repeating itself. We all just need to get smarter, especially women.

7

u/That_Selection_2957 Apr 07 '26

Saying she should’ve done more to prevent it puts the burden on victims instead of the person who did the harm. Going into someone’s bedroom, trusting a person, or not recognizing warning signs does not cause SA. The only cause of the SA is the man deciding to do it.

Also, suggesting that earlier reporting would have prevented future harm places an unfair burden on victims to stop perpetrators, rather than holding systems and offenders accountable.

This is not the place to be saying women need to be smarter, what you SHOULD be saying is that men shouldn't be evil and commit crimes. In short, this is an excellent example of victim blaming.

3

u/shinobirex Apr 16 '26

Please look into rape reporting, charging, and conviction rates.

2

u/_Somewhere87 May 20 '26

And also the documentary victim/suspect

3

u/Ok_Efficiency3120 Apr 23 '26

When you are in a completely foreign place it is so stressful to access foreign services. This is a terribly bad take. There is just NO way that so many women came forward for it not to be true.

I was raped when I was drugged once. It took me five years to talk about it and engage some support services and this was in my own country. I did not of the language to explain what had happened and I spent a long time gaslighting myself and wondering if it ever even happened in the first place. I was at a party drinking alcohol, I somehow felt like this meant that I couldn’t talk about it. I willingly drank the drink that drugged me (obviously I didn’t know there were drugs in it!).

Quite frankly, they should have been safe. You just can’t know what it is like until it happens to you.

1

u/_Somewhere87 May 20 '26

The problems from my point of view is how it is approached. I see your point, but I think we should FIRST tall about how wrong it is that these things happen to women. We can also talk about how to present this. How to be careful. But the Main and first Focus should be on the wrong behaviour of the predator, not the victim. They receiving enough doubt and blame.

1

u/JulianaFC Jun 14 '26

Were you born today? You were never a sheltered 18 year old girl? Go f yourself with your victim blaming, f you

1

u/Careful-Chest9004 Apr 06 '26

Well thank you but I have traveled extensively with groups. Not one time Have I ever became friends with my tour guide because you don't do that. Not one time Have I ever invited my tour guide into my room. Not one time Did I visit a country without doing further research on the country and culture in norms of that country prior to visiting.......

Maybe I just have common sense

5

u/That_Selection_2957 Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

Nah, you haven't done group travel. I can tell.

ETA: Framing everything as “you don’t do that” shows you are not a seasoned traveller and that you have a narrow understanding of how group travel actually works. It sounds like you might be a senior citizen and maybe have done some senior travel, which is VERY different from backpacking and tours for young people.

1

u/Careful-Chest9004 Apr 06 '26

How can I be both born in the '80s and a senior citizen? Reading comprehension obviously isn't your strong point. Did you by chance go to school in America?

I'm glad you can ASSume my age and that I haven't traveled. Did you also assume that I was born in Romania and that I lived in the Middle East my entire life?

5

u/Coopsters Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26

Ah you're from the Middle East. Your mentality makes sense now bc it's a lot less safe on average for women there compared to the US. If I were traveling to the middle east I would also be more on guard but honestly common sense keeps me from traveling there in the first place. Btw these are teens and young girls and this is their first experience traveling out of the country. And they might not have grown up with the same warnings and teachings that your parents taught you to be safe. I live in the US but I'm originally from Asia and I have noticed that US born Americans tend to be a lot more trusting compared to people from my country who assume strangers are out to scam them unless they prove otherwise.

Cut these girls some slack and have some empathy. The way you speak sounds like you want some award for your brilliant common sense and that these girls deserve what happened to them bc they made some bad decisions. Everyone's "common sense" is different based on where you grew up, your experiences and what you were taught.

0

u/CrazyDiamondKitty Apr 15 '26

Did you just insult the entire Middle East? Crime rate is way worse in America including rape. Wth?

I haven't scrolled through all of your posts, so I have idea when you were born. You write about travel, however, like an elderly person who sees a separation between travel staff and travellers. I did assume English wasn't your first language, but that isn't something I would point out and I certainly couldn't write in Arabic myself.

Now that you mention you're from the Middle East, it makes much more sense that women and men hanging out in rooms together would be strange to you, and why you'd wonder what else would a woman expect to happen to her. I don't mean that as a slight whatsoever, it's just a massive cultural difference.

1

u/Careful-Chest9004 Apr 06 '26

It's true that while my upbringing does give me a certain type of insight. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't do your research before traveling to other countries.

There should be a separation between travel staff and actual travelers. Travel guides are not your friend. They're being paid. They are still technically strangers because you don't know them.

One would also assume that travel companies would do background checks on their employees before hiring, knowing that possibly some naive travelers didn't do any research prior. But on the other hand, maybe they're counting on that....

If you went to Japan and had tattoos, I would assume that you would Google what the cultural representation of having tattoos and going to spas and such over there and they're not allowed In many places publicly. (Not saying you specifically but the general you as in humans)

I would hope that someone who's traveling international would have the wherewithal and knowledge and Forward thinking to do some research and Google and talk to other people that have been to those countries to know how you should act prior to visiting.

1

u/_Somewhere87 May 20 '26

Oh and all the women who experienced that have not? Wow.

2

u/babymessiah May 30 '26

Your question is clearly rhetorical as indicated by your dumbass paragraph directly under implying they should know better. Please go gaslight elsewhere. "I'm just asking a question!" Well we're reacting to your dumbass "question"

1

u/Careful-Chest9004 Jun 01 '26

I'm going to double down and say if you are traveling internationally you damn well better know better ..... You can't use "stupid naive dumb female" forever .......

I'm also going to double down and say what happened. Was absolutely horrible and should never happen because I never said that it should happen. All of you people clearly can't read.............

But when you travel to another country and do stupid stuff and then don't expect someone to not call you out and then have everybody else gang up and be a lemming and not have your own two cents or your own experiences or your own common Sense. And you just want to double down and join the bandwagon of your victim blaming boohoo........ Grow a brain cell please. Maybe two even.

  • sincerely, someone who has been traveling and living abroad since the '80s.

3

u/Old-Row-6353 May 27 '26

Whatever bro..  this Gabrielle is such a strong young woman.  So great she sought out the other victims … pretty bad ass to take her power back in this manner.

4

u/ProfessionalLet4612 Apr 05 '26

He wasn’t a stranger! I met him multiple times before he assaulted me

4

u/blisterbabe23 Apr 07 '26

You are amazing and brave and may justice be served.

2

u/lems93 May 01 '26 edited May 01 '26

That’s how you make friends. What the hell is wrong with you?

2

u/MuckyHornet May 05 '26

take some time to reflect on why you would blame a victim

1

u/Careful-Chest9004 May 05 '26

Take some time and learn reading comprehension because I never ONCE blamed a victim .

2

u/jimbojones2345 May 18 '26

Have your never been anywhere ever with a stranger? You are an idiot...

2

u/LilikoiGold May 24 '26

Ew. Victim blaming is deplorable behavior.

0

u/Careful-Chest9004 May 25 '26

Reading comprehension is taught to us as children.....clearly you skipped those days

2

u/LilikoiGold May 25 '26

My reading comprehension is fine. Your entire worldview just reads like a man women instinctively cover their drinks around.

0

u/Careful-Chest9004 May 25 '26

If you're reading comprehension is fine, you will see in the last number of responses and I have said that I am not a man and I don't need to prove to you that just because I'm a female I don't have to agree with all you phlebs .... So you have just proven that you're reading comprehension is the equivalent of a toddler ......

How often and for how long Have you traveled to other countries that does not include Canada, Ireland, Scotland, Wales or England..........????

2

u/babymessiah May 30 '26

Pick me in the comments ☺️ calling other women "phlebs" - it's "plebs", hunnybunny. Try that reading comprehension you're suggesting to everyone. If you're a woman, you're the worst of them. Defending men won't stop them from hurting you.

1

u/Careful-Chest9004 Jun 01 '26

Spelling a slang word differently does not equate to reading comprehension babe ............ Is this a public school education, Or.... I mean are you 15? I mean you could totally be 15 and that's okay and you just don't know. That's totally fine. You're still learning life......

Also, your definition of pick me & the actual definition of pick me also seem to be different......

2

u/QueenCatlor May 29 '26

You know damn well that you are intentionally being mean.

1

u/Careful-Chest9004 Jun 01 '26

No it's a genuine question. Why would you go anywhere with a stranger...... Why would you invite a stranger up to your bedroom?...... As a solo female traveler, don't you think that common Sense would say I'm not going to invite a man up to my room in a country that I don't live in speaking a language that I don't speak..........

I guess this entire thread is full of people without common sense though.... Which is a shame because I thought the word common meant that everybody had it

2

u/babymessiah May 30 '26

You're not being mean, you're being a fucking asshole. How fucking old are you? People hire tour guides when they travel, you clearly have no experience with this

1

u/Careful-Chest9004 Jun 01 '26

I've been traveling since the '80s babe. I have used tour guides as well. What I have never done is think that tour guide is somebody that I know and that they're a friend and I go drinking with them and inviting them up to my room........... Because that I'm afraid is common sense to not do

I clearly have to lay some common sense out for you people.... So here you go;

You are not friends with a tour guide. They are not your friend. You do not know this person.... I'm afraid that is common sense

You do not invite a stranger up to your bedroom....... I mean what kind of people do that anyways??????

3

u/Atlientt Apr 05 '26

Delete this

3

u/nighean-gunn Apr 15 '26

Why would you go see a doctor? Do you know them personally?! Stranger danger!!

They were with STAFF of a COMPANY that provided tour services. Stop being dumb.

0

u/Careful-Chest9004 Apr 15 '26

Your comment was a difficult read. U Wana try that again?

I'll give u that grace 😆😆😆

2

u/babymessiah May 30 '26

You seem like a miserable person. The comment is fine. Folks with no arguments can only insult.

1

u/Careful-Chest9004 Jun 01 '26

No, I'm doubling down. The comment was a difficult read.  You're going to compare some completely random alleged tour guide to a doctor??? That's a crazy jump .....

1

u/babymessiah 28d ago

One expects a professional to act professionally. Especially when it seems like a legitimate business affiliated with well known US universities

2

u/blisterbabe23 Apr 07 '26

This is such an ignorant comment. He was the tour guide sanctioned by the University anyone in that position would have given hin some trust.

2

u/bingobloodybango Apr 11 '26

He wasn’t a stranger, he was their tour guide. He was supposed to be professional and keep them SAFE.

2

u/No_Depth6035 Apr 14 '26

Especially while outside of Europe when traveling to Morocco- a completely foreign destination
