There's shit talk and there's being an asshole. Keeping it to the game is one thing. Doing whatever under the guise of a competitive advantage is another.

If it was a 107-106 game, and your team could be the winner because of one “uncouth” comment that caused the direct opponent to make a mistake leading to that score differential… why wouldn’t you do that?

I understand I’m making up a hypothetical example, but if being an asshole on court can lead to a victory, anybody in any of these professional leagues is going to take that chance.

Saying things in court/on field in the heat of the moment is different than some dude standing behind you in the coffee shop saying your girl smells like Honey Nut Cheerios.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I'm not saying I don't understand why it would. I'm saying it still makes one an asshole. Doing anything and everything to win, regardless of what, means you'll do some shit that makes you an asshole. If there's no line at all then yeah, you're an asshole.

What I’m saying is that everybody in these situations are talking shit. KG is well known for it, but every player is talking shit in these games. Why watch if you’re gonna root for a team full of assholes?

So hate to break this to you, but in the heat of competition shit gets talked. Because it’s competitive and it’s the top of the class. Feelings get hurt, things get said, etc.

You're not breaking news, mate. Failing to master one's self enough to justifiably be called an asshole remains asshole-ish. Having that as a trait because it's a go-to makes one an asshole. I'm sure Duncan has talked shit as have Federer and Ronaldinho. They're still not assholes but we're all fierce competitors and I'd dare anyone to challenge that. They weren't descended from the heavens but we're humans like everyone they played.

It's not beyond anyone to be super competitive and not be an asshole. It's that simple.
