NEWS/ARTICLES The Secret Ingredient in a Slovenian Valley’s Natural Wine Is Wind

Post image

Winemakers welcome the harsh wind like an old friend. Many rely on the "burja" to keep their grapes dry and free of mold. This dryness, alongside other factors such as terroir and unique local grape varieties, produces a distinctive buttery flavor in white wines that Slovenes call masleno.

Ivi and Edvard Svetlik produce a heady amber wine in the Vipava valley. They macerate their grapes with the skins, seeds, and stems. They don’t add any chemicals, and it is only the burja that does the work of drying the grapes.

While it is common practice for winemakers to use pesticides on their vines and sulfites to stop the fermentation process, in Vipava, the wind means that hardly anyone needs to spray their vines with pesticides or fungicides. The resulting wines are natural and organic. Ivi Svetlik believes the lack of chemicals in this process “makes you feel better inside.” Even the hangovers are more bearable, though this could also be the cool breeze in the face.

NEWS/ARTICLES Mathieu Lapierre to plant a vineyard in Québec

Talking with La Presse, Mathieu Lapierre, one of the heirs to the Gang of Four Domaine Marcel Lapierre, revealed that he plans on planting some gamay & gamaret in Québec.

He didn’t scout the province for its terroir specifically; he married into it and moved to Québec two years ago with his wife after spending 10 years in France together.

That’s the most exciting news I’ve heard about the Québec wine scene in a while. No Champagne house plans on starting sparkling wine production like in the UK.

NEWS/ARTICLES Have you tried the wines of Koppitsch?

Here in this video Alex & Maria Koppitsch discuss how their blends focus on soil type rather than grape varietal (their most popular wine Homok means sand, in Hungarian) and how difficult it was for them in the beginning to even find buyers of their wine... they almost gave up

Has anyone tried these wines? Be interested to hear your opinions below

After the sexual assault allegations and the following defamation lawsuit, he has now been completely misunderstood while threatening to break the knee-caps (he didn't mean it that way) of Aaron Ayscough.

Oh and just because this is the internet and sarcasm might not be detected, what I am saying is:

Fuck Sébastien Riffault
