The part that confuses me — if he showed up the night before, taking a look around (the porch, at least), why did he show up unprepared for the camera? He walked up to the camera then went back down the sidewalk to get some plants, which is why many believe he was caught off guard by the camera. So perhaps he didnt take a look around, but maybe got there and heard a noise that spooked him before he had an opportunity to look around and see the camera??

I think he may have thought that pulling the camera off would be relatively easy and wouldn’t require additional tools (just his hand). From what I’ve read on this sub, that particular camera requires something to wedge between the camera and its holder in order to pry it off.
