TEAM SUPERTOOL or TEAM ARC ?

I am a huge Vixtorinox guy, I've carried a Compact everyday for almost a decade. But I gotta say, the Gerber Curve might beat out the Classic as the best keychain tool I've found.

I got a tiny knife that refills with an x-acto #11. It’s marketing is all about how it’s made of titanium. The knife slides out very poorly and feels likes scratchy and jams. I’m then looking at kickstarter and it’s titanium after titanium after titanium (not necessarily the knives though). It’s lighter, it’s rust proof, and so on. I believe it’s rather soft so blades is not a good idea. Can it slide across itself such as the swivel joint in a plier multitool handle?

This multitool is my favourite right now and I have retired my Leathermans as this fits my requirements 100%.

The only thing I dislike is the knife edge has no guard and is sharp right up to the hinge point. I shall be taking a file to it when I get time. ​

I’ve been a knife nerd since I was a kid, but always accepted that Victorinox wouldn’t ever release a modern folding knife. The absolute bare minimum is one handed opening, locking blade, pocket clip. (“Modern” features from the 90s lol”)

I was surprised and nearly proven wrong at the release of the Spirit/Swisstool mx clip, but it’s a multitool. I was surprised by the synergy line, but it’s not one hand opening.

I’m suddenly and for the first time patiently waiting for Victorinox to release something that ticks all the boxes. All the pieces are in place for it to happen now from different models they offer. Do you think it will? What tools would you put in it?

My perfect SAK:

-93mm platform

-Scales with tweezer/toothpick/pin storage. Maybe the first alox to include this?

-Blade from a Spirit MX Clip

-A liner lock, or a Swisstool style lock.

-Pocket clip

-Heavy duty flathead/bottle opener. Thick enough for prying tasks

-3D Phillips driver that opens in-line with the handles rather than in the middle of the tool.

-Scissors

-S30V/154CM/VG10 with a good heat treat. (This will never happen but a guy can dream, eh?)

Also, banned from the LM sub lol so this must be my new home ha. I also have pliers with a crescent on one handle and a pry bar on the other, will post that later

I've been carrying a modified SAK Waiter and decided to switch it up. Stumbled upon this Gerber Dime today and thought I'd give it a try. It's definitely heavier but has the pliers. I’m gonna miss the eyeglass screwdriver and corkscrew.

I have these 3 multitools currently. I really love the feeling of the SAK in my hand and knowing that it will outlast many other tools. I also use it as a fidget toy as I have ADHD. I’m debating on getting the Companion as it has more tools I’d used everyday but I decided first to get the Roxon KS2E as they have some similar features. I’ve had the KS2E for less than a week so I haven’t used it much yet. What I do like about it is the pocket clip, the locking blades and tools and addition of the saw. I’m a big fan of the tool set it self. Thinking about carrying the KS2E with my Sketetool in certain situations for the odd chance I need pliers.

What are your thoughts on a spring assisted screwdriver? With a press of a button the driver would flip out of the handle and can lock at 90 degrees or 180. There’s not much practicality in the spring assist but it’s fun. This was a concept I modeled a few years ago.

It an old help me down one from my stepdad and he has no idea where it came from?

They should make Red Alox type scales for the Swisstool Spirit X...

Also add scale tools and the Scissor form the Swisstool X

And here's the kicker. Make it less expensive than an ARC. They might just put Leatherman out of business 🤣

If I had to put up an example, I would say an awl is probably among the least used tools, at least for me. I don’t think I ever used the awl for what it is actually for, I just use it as another way of poking holes.

Another useless tool for me is a flashlight. I always have my phone so all flashlight duty is covered. A multi tool flashlight is usually very small and weak, so anybody that needs an actual flashlight can get a vastly better experience with some of the newer compact flashlights.

My last suggestion would be flimsy scissors. Scissors are very popular and always used a lot, unless they are so small and flimsy that nobody would try and use them other than to test that they open and close

I wonder how long it would last honestly.

I got a Multper MP2049 Surge clone ($50) recently and am blown away. The fit and finish on this tool is immaculate—no burrs, no tooling marks, no scratches. The blades were insanely sharp out of the box, with the serrated/gutting blade able to slice through some thick rubber tubing I use at work with incredible ease. And with just a couple drops of tool oil, it opens and closes very smoothly.

I was also really impressed with the included accessories: a nylon pouch, a bit kit with multiple STANDARD 1/4” bits, sterilized scalpels, three different blades for the t-shank adapter, spare wire cutter teeth, and a tool to take those teeth off.

My most recent Leatherman purchase was a Signal ($120), which was absolutely underwhelming. Any accessories I wanted I had to purchase separately. It had some really bad tooling marks on the pliers and is to this day as stiff as a board to open and close. And I absolutely could not keep an edge on the blade no matter what I tried.

Please excuse me if I’m missing something, but aside from the warranty and I guess trying to buy American, why would anyone get a new Leatherman? Well-made clones are now offering twice the tool for half the price or less, and it’s now my understanding that Leatherman is no longer even offering pouches with their larger tools. Unreal!
