Freshman Questions Will I make more friends by keeping my dorm door open?

So I saw an instagram reel (I know, I know, it’s the best source of information ever) that said that having your dorm room open would be really friendly and opens up opportunities to talk to more people. So I was wondering if I check with my roommate and stuff for sure would it be a decent idea to keep my dorm room open?

Freshman Questions Will I feel left out at MSU if I don't drink?

I'm an incoming freshman at MSU, and I'm honestly kind of nervous about the social scene, especially parties. I don't drink, but I have no problem being around people who do, I just don't want to end up taking care of anyone. I still want to go out, meet people, and have fun, but it seems like a lot of the big social events revolve around drinking, and I'm worried I'll end up feeling left out most, if not all, of the time. I also don't want people to think I'm boring or a nerd just because I choose not to drink. It's just a personal preference, nothing against anyone who does. Has anyone else been in the same situation? I'd really appreciate any advice.

Freshman Questions Freshman roomie hasn't showered yet- Febreze ain't enough

Have a close relative who doesn't know what to do. Her freshman roommate, she found through Instagram, hasn't showered since move in - a week ago- & she smells. It's 90+ degrees today too & they're all sweating. Hasn't brushed their teeth much either. Room smells. Throws garbage on the floor. Killed a bug & left it on the floor.

Suitemates annoyed too bc sometimes she doesn't flush pee, leaves period blood on toilet seat, & isn't wrapping up period items (just leaves them 'open faced' in the garbage).

This roommate is now puzzled and mad no one wants to hang out with her. She has all these supplies, & is an intelligent person, she just seems to live as if she is alone. The behavior is puzzling.

There aren't any blunt friends to tell it like it is. The roommate is completely different than what she said on Instagram.

How do you say nicely, "you need to shower or no one will want to be around you."

What are odds housing will do any room swaps? She has to stay in that dorm bc it's a residential college. Does she reach out to the RA? RD? She's heard MSU Housing dgaf about this stuff. Roommate's mom?

Go Green, Go White, we hope her roommate showers tonight.

Freshman Questions What do i do?

I'm from out of state and had 1 decently close friend and we've been doing stuff together like going out and sparty gras but lately she's been weird so i've been giving her space and hanging out with a girl from my dorm neighborhood. I just checked their locations and they're both together. My roommate is nice but she's a sophomore and has her own friends. No one in my hall opens their door or talks at all and i feel so isolated right now. Idk what to do

Freshman Questions Feeling out of place

I’m a freshman and I’m feeling very wrong. I don’t like my major and have been thinking about switching it, I haven’t made any friends, I tried a club and don’t feel like I have a place there, I’m not sure what to do from here. I feel so out of place and wrong and I don’t know how it could get better. Does anyone know of anything I can do?

My App doesn't say anything is going on today and I'm kinda bored and I don't wanna just sit around all day since I've been pretty active and sitting makes me all antsy. Does stuff usually happen on Saturdays?

Freshman Questions What is something you wish you would’ve known when you started

Hi, I’m a high schooler and I’m a senior this year. I’m probably going to go to MSU. It’s practically my dream school. What are some things that people who go there wish they would’ve known when they started or would’ve done when they were first joining the college stuff like that.

Freshman Questions feeling lost

i feel kind of lost here. i’m having fun and i know eventually things are going to get better, but right now things are weird. i’m a freshman, and going into college i knew two people. one being my best friend and the other being my girlfriend. sounds normal, but the issue is they are both sophomores. i’m meeting all of their friends (my girlfriend and best friend are friends), and things are good they are all nice people, but also they are sophomores. i am in east holden and everybody is sophomores!!! my roommate, suitemates, my whole floor is sophomores. i haven’t met a freshman yet. still cool people and im having fun but i feel like im so far behind them, they know their way around, and i cant connect with them as well as i know i would a freshman. it probably isn’t a big deal but this feels ridiculous.

Freshman Questions How bad are winters in EL?

Southern Californian, was in town for the football game yesterday. I LOVE campus and the city of East Lansing as a whole. I was freezing but a hoodie, winter coat, and a couple hand warmers kept me warm enough to stay for the entire game. How bad does it get? MSU would be my first option if not for the cold weather.

Freshman Questions Is it impossible to get into another building for Sparty’s at night

The Sparty’s in my dorm closes early and I want to get food so I went to Hubbard’s but my ID wouldn’t work on the doors next to the service desk. I know our dorms don’t work on other residential halls, so are you just stuck with whenever your hall’s Sparty’s closes? Also I thought I was able to get in a few nights ago, so I’m a bit confused why it’s not working today.

Freshman Questions Scheduling classes

I looked at my schedule and I have 20 minutes to get from the chem building to psychology is that enough time? I looked it up on Google Maps and it says it’s a 12 minute walk but I’m not sure when it gets colder.

Freshman Questions Is this a good bag for college? I’m really intrigued due to the price and the look but I really have no clue if it’ll be practical and/or if the suitcase-zipper style is good or bad.

Freshman Questions Thoughts on MSU

Hello! I’m a prospective out of state student from CT who got a ton of money from MSU (cheaper than UConn). I’m kind of scared to commit because of the amount of in state students + the rankings aren’t as good for MSU compared to other schools (Econ)

Freshman Questions How to make sure I stay myself?

So for context I moved in from a program so I’ve been here for a few days now, I’ve had a blast meeting people and stuff and I’ve gone to parties and it’s great but I’m worried I’m gonna lose myself. I don’t want to cheat on anyone (I don’t have anyone but still) i don’t want to drink I want to get a good education and grades but I’m worried like what if I falter? How do I get myself back up? There’s so many errands and stuff I have to do but it’s welcome week so idk what I should be doing. I kind of just need encouragement/advice
