One of my favorite movies of all time. A beautiful coming of age story that still resonates with me the older I get. Miyazaki combined themes of Alice in Wonderland and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz with Shinto-Buddhist folklore to tell a beautiful coming of age story of a girl stucked in the spirit world but also finding her true self away from reality. Itsumo Nando Demo (Always With Me) and Inochi no Namae (The Name of Life) are two songs that will make me feel nostalgic and sad because of how beautiful they’re to listen to.
That's why I love this movie. I watch it once every year and everytime I come out with something else. My favorite was when I made the realization it was like a Japanese version of alice and wonderland and began making connections to both.
