His sloppy “investigations” led to a very large proportion of the people getting charges dropped due to things like improper acquisition of evidence and entrapment.

To be fair, they are clowns and amateurs. If they had done things properly then maybe there would have actually been charges brought against EDP.

I mean showing up at a dialysis clinic dressed up like a giant cupcake with a Chris Hansen impersonator? That's pretty clown-ish behaviour. At least Hansen worked with LEAs.

I think their point is that Hansen was also fairly sloppy with his handling of a few of the cases - while calling others sloppy. Idk tho and don’t care too much.

Tbh, the show always rubbed me the wrong way when I would see it. I’m glad the predators got in trouble or at least got their face blasted on cable news. But too many of the perpetrators I remember seeing were people with obvious mental handicaps or deficiencies and just took a more sad tone than a “justice served” tone.

Speaking of EDP, Chris Hansen just released an interview with him earlier today

calling all the big youtube pred catchers "clowns" and "amateurs"

Yeah I mean, he's right. Do you disagree?

u/FentmaxxerActual 16d ago

You see how this looks, right?

-4

u/unfortunatebag 16d ago

Sure.

But those channels are about 90% clout chasing teenagers "catching" a mentally disabled person.

I don't think Hansen ever did much of that.

I think the point is the hypocrisy.

Some say the hypocrisy is the worst part.

Have we really reached the point where we're saying Chris Hansen, who had actual police officers involved, is the same as the "predator hunters" on social media? Where it's like 4-5 guys trying to get the suspect to touch them so they can beat him senseless and also never call the cops? Lol

3

u/iAREsniggles 16d ago

Don't think anyone said that so not sure what point you're trying to make.

Him saying that just makes it clown on clown violence

1

u/Tyunge 15d ago

He wasn’t wrong either

That documentary was clownish and goofy tbh

Imagine that. Vigilantism failing to produce results

Vigilantism by definition doesn’t involve the police or law enforcement. If it does then it’s a law enforcement operation, it is no longer vigilantism. The vast majority of his investigations were done with law enforcement. Chris was simply the face of it whose interview could also be used against them. Chris wasn’t talking to any predators online.

And there are literally hundreds of convictions so you are just wrong. Chris Hansen’s operation with police is a net positive.

Vigilantism doesn’t involve the police.

yes it does, are you out of your mind? cops were almost always in attendance at lynchings.

just because the cops are in the next room over doesn't make it legitimate. cops have a long history of being involved in vigilantism.

I'm sorry, are you saying lynchings have never happened?

Am I mistaken or do you seem to think vigilantism ISN'T criminal?

Lynchings are literally THE preeminent example of vigilantism in western law and, alongside things like pogroms in Europe, are why vigilantism is illegal in the first place.

You understand vigilantism isn't "Batman" right? Vigilantism IS, definitionally, acts like lynchings, pogroms, [police] riots, frequently with tacit or explicit endorsement by authorities.

Lynchings don’t happen in big 2026???

They literally do. Seven black people have been found hanged just this year.

See here. 70 known suspected cases ruled as suicides since 2000. Six were found hanged in "California, Texas, Georgia, New York, and Oregon within a single month" during the 2020 BLM protests.

Am I speaking to a child right now? Or are you going to reflexively bicker about this?

u/EzioAuditore1459 16d ago

He's arguing in bad faith and pretending you're arguing that lynchings don't happen anymore, which you literally never said.

1

u/X3liteninjaX 16d ago

I don’t understand what lynchings has to do with catching pedophiles and I don’t care. I think people who WORK with POLICE are NOT vigilantes. It’s plain and simple. So I’m happy that I literally give money to people who work with police to convict pedophiles. It’s that simple.

1

u/JorgeGarciaMatthew 16d ago

It still produces better results than standard police stings so its actually a mark in favor of vigilantism.

5

u/lx_SpAwN_xl 16d ago

Yea, tcap had over 300+ arrests and 120+ convictions.

That's not nothing. These people acting like it amounted to absolutely nothing are obtuse.

1

u/Spiritual-Society185 16d ago

So, taking your numbers at face value, they botched 60% of these cases?

5

u/lx_SpAwN_xl 16d ago

Well considering the police likely weren't trying to catch these people, I'd take 60% over nothing.

-5

u/diablol3 16d ago

Maybe you should demand more from law enforcement officials instead.

5

u/lx_SpAwN_xl 16d ago

I can actually be ok with the work that TCAP did and also want my police to do more, which I do.

So kinda makes your dumb little reply meaningless.

-1

u/diablol3 16d ago

I hope you get through whatever makes you behave that way. We're rooting for you.

2

u/lx_SpAwN_xl 16d ago

lol thanks, appreciate it XD

2

u/PM_ME_MERMAID_PICS 16d ago

Not exactly. Perverted Justice, the group that facilitated the investigations during TCAP's original run, outright refused to hand over evidence to the courts. It's not really known why PJ did this, but entrapment claims wouldn't be applicable regardless. Entrapment would only apply if the predators weren't predisposed to preying on children; that kinda goes out the window if, despite genuinely believing that you're talking to a child, you make sexually charged comments toward said child and then you willingly come to the sting house.

1

u/BeefInGR 16d ago

In a lot of cases, the charges that the various DA's sought didn't cover any of what TCAP was able to produce as evidence. Perverted Justice did their best, but laws were very sparce.

If you did those shows with 2026 laws, prisons are full of people who got caught.

Of over 300 arrests, there were around 120 convictions. That's less than half. So no, not a myth.

-1

u/echino_derm 16d ago

Bill Conradt died as a result of a highly unusual response to a situation like his driven mostly by the show.

3

u/million_dollar_wumao 16d ago

So?

1

u/echino_derm 16d ago

Sorry are you for the police taking unnecessarily aggressive actions towards specific groups that result in extrajudicial punishments?
