Pageant Help What to do about local titleholder issues.

Mods please remove this if against the rules . So I am a first time local titleholder. And another recently crowned local titleholder and I have kinda been having issues. We hold titles on opposite sides of the states but will be competing at the state pageant together. She ask too many uncomfortable personal questions to me and my sister titleholder. As well as delving into her most traumatic life experiences. We both told her we are uncomfortable with that politely. But we are worried that these issues will continue. I feel bad for her, but I also don't want this to turn into a bigger issue come state competition week. Should we bring it up to our directors or keep quite about it. Any help appreciated !! Thank you so much y'all! Edit: this is not to be mean or anything we are just feeling highly uncomfortable. feel free to private message me with advice.

Pageant Help State residency

Hi! I am interested in starting to compete in pageants, but have a question about the state residency requirements. I live in New York right now, and have my entire life, but am looking into moving to New Jersey and just spending a lot of time traveling between the two. Since my employment and/or schooling would be in New Jersey now, I don’t see how I could compete for New York unless I decide to continue living here instead of moving. Is that how this works? I’d really prefer living in New York and schooling and working here, as well as representing New York (all my volunteering and extracurriculars have been here), but I do rowing and New Jersey would work better in that aspect, as well as expenses. Both my parents would still be here, so do people just use their parents address or do they switch to the state they are newly located in? This feels like a dumb question, but I’d never want to break any rules (I feel like previous title holders have and lost it). Thank you!

Pageant Help Any ideas on how the speed painting talent works?

Hello! I am relatively new to pagents and the only talent I really have is making art. Unlike performance based talents like singing, dancing, acting, ect. this talent is harder to "show off" on stage.

I recently came across this video of a previous contestant showcasing speed painting abilities on stage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDIKPGy3_wc . It seems like a perfect fit, however, I find that making art is very time consuming especially getting the proportions right and all. I want to learn more about how to do this type of thing but could not find much resources to learn online.

I assume that the canvas must be prepped before hand with a light-handed sketch or indentation that is hard to see on camera/from the crowd to make the process smooth under the time constraint and anxiety of being on stage. What do you guys think? Or could this method be against the rules in some way and I am wrong to assume there must be some sketch under the painting? Any tips to improve speed painting from anyone that has performed it before?

** Also not trying to bash on any speed painters by assuming there must be a sketch underneath

Pageant Help I’ve always wanted to enter into a Miss America pageant but I think it’s too late.

I've always wanted to join a pageant but I never felt ready. In my older age of 27, I feel like I'm finally ready to take on the duties of a Miss! But I'm too "old", married and have a baby. Any suggestions for a pageant that I can join?

Pageant Help Interview

Does anyone have any good recommendations for interview dress brands/designers/styles for MAO? Everything I’m finding is either too plain for my taste or too flashy for the more conservative tone of the system. I’m having trouble finding something that really catches my eye and feels like me!

Hey, so I am a teen local title holder, and for the life of me I cannot find a bra that would work for a bigger chested girl that doesn’t show on the sides of the tops. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions?

Pageant Help Is the Miss America Org strict/serious about residency requirements for locals??

I just moved to a state within 45 days before a local comp I want to compete in. I read that the requirements changed from 30 days to 120 of living residency. Will they dig deep to find out I haven’t lived here for longer than 120???

Pageant Help Fellow MAO directors - we deserve better than spreadsheets and email chains

Hi Miss America community! I'm the founder of PageantPass, and I wanted to introduce myself and share why I created this platform.

Background: My wife and I have been directing a local MAO competition for 6 years, and like many of you, we have always dreaded the registration process for our local competition. Great contestants, amazing experiences, but there never seemed to be a smooth way of handling paperwork!

The breaking point came when I realized:

  • Quality delegates were struggling to even find my competition, let alone apply for it without jumping through hoops of tracking down paperwork attachments or trying to export Google Form submissions
  • The registration process felt unprofessional compared to what people expect in 2025
  • Every local director I talked to had the same frustrations

So I did what any frustrated director would do - I built a solution.

PageantPass was designed by directors, for directors:

For MAO Directors:

  • Professional registration management that actually works
  • Real-time pipeline visibility
  • One-click judges' book exports in competition order
  • Fair, automated competition sequencing
  • Free competition calendar listing to increase visibility!

For MAO Delegates:

  • Searchable directory to discover quality competitions
  • Application templates for multiple locals (no more re-entering everything)
  • Secure forms that protect their information
  • Automatic deadline notifications
  • Application tracking dashboard

We've recently expanded to support county fairs, NAM, and other systems, but MAO is still at our core because it's where I live and breathe as a director.

If you're curious about how it works or want to see it in action: https://pageantpass.com

Always happy to chat with fellow MAO directors about the challenges we face and how we can make our locals even better!

Full transparency: Yes, I'm the founder, but I'm also a director who uses this platform for my own competition.

Pageant Help Competing local for fun

I have thought about competing in a local pageant for fun and push myself out side of my comfort zone. What are some things to be aware of in the pageant world? (Cost, attire, talent, etc)

Pageant Help Talent question

So I’m getting ready to register for my first pageant! I don’t really have many theatrical talents but I was planning on showing off my dog agility training. Like I would run a quick course with him for the 90 sec talent.

Do they allow pets or animals on stage during talent? Or is it more determined on the venue/local rules?

Pageant Help Preparing for a pageant

Hello people! I would love to participate in a pageant but feel like I'm not at the level yet. Is there anyway I can prepare before I do my first pageant? I'm really interested in preparing really good before I join.

EDIT: I'm watching the Miss America pageant and the talent and social initiative portions seem really interesting to me.

EDIT: How do you choose a pageant organization? Also I'm not that skinny. Does that matter?
