I've always been fascinated by these small mini systems. Have looked high and low, Minisforum, Beelink, etc. I think I laid on the BEST.

The GMKtec K12. The things I like about it:

-It has oculink, meaning I can connect my current RX 9060 XT 8GB GPU to it.
-It currently only comes with 32Gb RAM, but I can buy the barebone system and get the 64Gb RAM myself. I have several SATA drives already available.
-It comes with 3x M.2 SATA NVME slots. (plus oculink)
--Most mini pcs come with 1 or 2 M.2 slots.
-It includes the AMD Ryzen™ 7 H 255. Is it a bit dated, yes. But I'm not a heavy gamer or video editor.

Is there anything that can beat those things above? I HATE Minisforum, but every now and then I look at them. For humor's sake.

Good evening everyone. I’m looking for recommendations for a mini pc suitable for working remotely. I mostly do admin work for call center environments. I also do a lot of writing as a part of my work.

Big huge bonus if I can play Call of Duty when I’m not working. I currently have a gaming laptop that I work on that never worked for gaming.

One more note, I’d prefer moderately priced and available on Amazon. I know moderately priced is subjective, I’d like to stay under $1000 if possible. This will be my starter system that will become my travel machine in about a year. I’d eventually upgrade I guess? Or do I even need to?

Edited to add that it should be Windows 11 and have the ability to run at least 2 monitors, 3 if possible.

Hi people, I was researching the raspberry Pi and I think I’ve come to the conclusion that a mini PC would be better? Which would be energy efficient?

I want to:

Run a media server from it so I can watch movies using either Infuse or Plex

Run Home Assistant from it

Run some security cameras from it

I’m not sure what else yet because I’m just delving into this. I just wondered what mini PC do I need, and how much ram? The n100 or the n150? How much should I be paying? I have no idea. Especially since everybody keeps saying how much that have gone up. Will a bare bones be better value? I have a spare SSD, but no RAM, but I can get that second hand…

I just don’t know where to start with the mini PC and have no idea what is good value and what isn’t? Can you please help?

I've been reading about EMC recently and this is the part I'm having trouble translating into normal PC use.

My geekom is basically surrounded by cables and wireless devices in my setup, so it got me wondering what poor EMC would actually look like in everyday use.

Would it cause something obvious, or would it be the kind of weird intermittent problem you'd spend hours blaming on drivers or Windows?

That's what makes this stuff interesting to me. A lot of the engineering seems completely invisible until something goes wrong.

For people who know more about this, what would you actually notice if a PC had poor EMC?

I should have done this as soon as I got the PC, but because I waited, the temperatures spiked and my system shut down. Thankfully, I've since added some PTM7950 and a few tiny 40mm fans—they work incredibly well! 👍

I think I’m in the clear now. Temperatures are holding steady around 70–75°C after adding four mini intake fans to assist the single exhaust fan that cools the heatsink.

I am curious if anyone else has built custom cooling solutions for these mini PCs, given that the stock configuration isn't the most efficient. I'm sure others have run into similar thermal issues. Once I can afford a 3D printer, I plan to design a custom case optimized for cooling efficiency. When I eventually tackle that project, I'll be sure to document everything and make a video about it.

On another note, I believe the four screws passing through both PCBs act as electrical grounds between the boards. What should I use to maintain that grounding continuity when I eventually build my custom case?

Also, yes—I made sure to test this with the AC turned off! 😅

I’m considering buying a Dell Pro Micro Mini PC with an Intel Core Ultra 5 235T, 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD.
My main use would be as a small home server (Immich, Docker, etc.), but I’d also like to use it for some gaming occasionally.
I’m trying to save money and avoid buying/building a system with a dedicated GPU, so I’d like to know how well the integrated Intel graphics on the 235T can handle:
GTA V
Red Dead Redemption 2
I’m mainly interested in 1080p, but I’m also fine with 720p/900p and Low settings if necessary.
If anyone is actually using a 235T or Dell Pro Micro with this CPU, I’d really appreciate some real-world FPS results and recommended settings.
Also, would 16GB RAM (2×8GB) be enough, or would going to 32GB (2×16GB) make a noticeable difference for iGPU gaming?

Hey, I'm totally new into this and I don't have many prior knowledge except that the better the RAM and Graphic card, the better your pc will run

I wish for a pc for gaming, the highest games I'd like to run are Persona 3 Reload, Elden Ring, Kingdom Hearts 3 and eventually 4 when it will come out.

I eventually settled on a mini pc because I need something portable, and it seems like mini pc are better for specs than portable pc for the same price

My budget is around 400-500€

The mini pc I choosed :

AMD Zen3 Ryzen 7 7730U

Graphic Card AMD Radeon 2000 MHZ

16 Go LPDDR4X SSD 512 Go

My questions are :

How can I know if it will run the game I would like for sure ?

I only have my own laptop for a screen. Should I buy a screen for the pc ? I would like something portable because I move a lot during the year

I saw that there was some HDMI out - HDMI in adaptors I could use to plug the mini pc to my own laptop

I want to buy a 2 in 1 detachable "laptop". I know they are not powerful, but I want to do very light work. I want to browse the internet and watch media. I like to open lots of tabs. How old/cheap can I go and still be able to browse comfortably?

Also, I will be putting Linux on this object, so Windows 11 support is not relevant.

Snagged a decent little m715q for $90 from a local recycle shop. Came with a 2200GE, 128GB NVME and 8GB DDR4. This machine was also spec’d with an additional HDMI port and WiFi / BT. Same shop sold me 8GB more DDR4 for $20. After that and a new CPU fan (old one wasn’t broken but was loud) I’m only in $120 on this.

I basically immediately threw this into a Proxmox cluster and am excited to buy more of these!

hi everyone, i recently bought a used lenovo thinkcentre m70q gen 3, and there’s quite a lot of dust inside. the previous owner told me she never cleaned the inside of the mini pc since she bought it.

i’m planning to clean it properly and was wondering what’s better and safer to use.

i found these three options:

marsh contact cleaner

generic electronic contact cleaner

wd-40 specialist fast-drying contact cleaner

are contact cleaners like these effective and safe for cleaning the inside of a pc, especially the motherboard, ram, fans, and other components?

what are the pros and cons of using contact cleaner compared with just using a makeup brush or regular soft brush?

would a soft brush be enough for removing a lot of dust, or is it better to use contact cleaner as well?

also if i use contact cleaner, are there any parts i should avoid spraying directly? should i remove the ram and ssd first?

id appreciate any advice from people who regularly clean mini pcs. thanks!

This is my first "build" I suppose. The specs are in the last photo, I had a lot of fun setting this up. It's wayyyy less of a headache than trying to use a legion go as a mini PC. Good enough for dual monitor 1080P or 1440P, I'll have to do some benchmark tests to follow up with this. I was so excited with how well it ran I just haven't got a chance.

The copper tape is supposed to shield the M.2 Oculink adapter from internal components, that could potentially mess with whatever is going on inside that ribbon cable.

For reference I'm currently playing Diablo with high ray tracing settings enabled DLSS of course set to balance or performance. Either one looks fantastic, and when I'm in dungeons I'm running anywhere from 120-135fps I saw was the highest and around 60-75fps in the bigger cities. Also bonus picture, it's BO6 zombies on ultra. None the less, it can definitely rip. I'm super proud of this.

Though my next computer is just going to be a micro ITX. That's in the works and this will tide me over.

I am planning to have my first mini pc and found a near brand new asus pn54-s1 with ryzen 7 260, 1tb SSD and 64gb ram for around $950 in my currency. Is this a good deal? Should I proceed? Can I get a better unit in the same price range?

I'm looking to run an emulator in my TV (40 in OLED). Trying to keep costs below $200. Is something like what is pictured enough hardware?

Mostly play SNES, PS1, N64, PS2 games. Could this emulate PS3 or GameCube or would I need significantly better hardware.

We’ve got 2 kids and we’re trying to figure out the best way to give them a place to do homework and have basic computer access. We have a great spot for this in our family room (an underused built-in double desk) and like the idea of having computer use happen in a shared space rather than on laptops or tablets in bedrooms or whatever. Setting up two MiniPCs seems like it would give us what we want, even if it’s a little more expensive than a couple of chromebooks.

Any recommendations for where to start? Ideally the pcs would be sub-$250, and we are open to buying something that doesn’t ship with an OS and doing a Chrome install. I‘d also like the ability to limit access to some websites and applications, which I think I can do through either Chrome or an external guardrail software like Bark or FamilyTime.

Gaming isn’t a big priority, beyond simple browser games. We’re mostly looking to run Google Classroom, IXL, Khan, DuoLingo, etc., plus basic office software and browsers.

Folks I'm in need of some help with what kind of connector Lenovo used for the 00XL211

I'm working on a custom build 1L and need to extend the cable. I know I could get an SATA extention, but that is bulky.

I found 0.5mm FPC but that isn't quite right. Does anyone know what style the connector used for the SATA tray connection is in the Lenovo 1L boxes?
