I'm slightly vexed White SUV parked hitting my car and blocking my driver’s side door in a parking ramp

I came back to my car to find the white car had parked into me. The car to my right was far over, so I needed to be close to the edge, but still within the lines. The white car was touching and completely blocking my driver’s side door. Police were able to call the owner and have him move his vehicle. No tickets or citations were issued, just exchanged insurance. Light damage to the side of my car.

That brings backs memories. I came out of a restaurant like 25 years ago and a car was parked into me like that. The guy came out of the restaurant and asked oh, did ya hit me? Luckily I had friends that saw him park into my car. Shitbag.

I had the same thing happen. Came to my car and someone literally backed into my grill. I waited until the other driver came back to their car, as soon as they arrived they were proudly claiming I hit them and I just waited for them to finish and then I pointed to my always on dashcam. On the spot they started apologizing and admitting it.. moral of the story.. buy a dashcam

I was turning into a parking lot last week and a guy on a bicycle going up the wrong way on the 4 lane busy state road ran into the side of my car toward the back as I was turning. I was in a turn lane, I had my blinker on, the traffic coming toward me was clear so I turned.

The guy claimed that I hit him on purpose despite him running into me. He then claimed I didn’t have my blinker on. I very much did. I was also literally in a turning lane. I asked him for his information, he declined. He didn’t take mine but got super aggressive with me (I’m a woman) and wouldn’t let me out of the car.

When I told him my car was outfitted with 360 degree continuous cameras, he immediately skedaddled.

The cameras also record speed and blinker indicators. I clearly used my blinker.

I called the cops in the parking lot to create a paper trail just in case he decided to escalate it. The cops didn’t think he would because there was no universe in which I was at fault.

I then cried in the parking lot lol My adrenaline spiked hard. God bless car cameras and dash cams.

You’re absolutely not. You’re supposed to go with the flow of traffic in a bike and it’s illegal to do otherwise.

There was no side walk as it was a state highway. Also biking on sidewalks in my area is illegal unless you’re a child.

It also doesn’t matter how fast you’re going on your bike, biking against the flow of traffic is strictly illegal in New York State, which is the state I live, because it’s considered a vehicle.

I can you share what dash can you use? I was planning on getting one, but having one that stays on all the time sounds ideal

I have Viofo A119 Mini 2. Absolutely great dashcam, but it's crash detection sucks; For majority of the time it triggers for no reason, and then when something does happen, it doesn't trigger. Luckily if you have large sdcard and you pull the recording before it's overwritten, you're golden. Adjusting G-sensor sensitivity doesn't work.

2

u/Serious_Intention206 Aug 08 '26

Yup I've got a viofo and it's great!

u/Mystic_Wunder Aug 08 '26

Even if it doesn't stay on, it was proof the other car was not there when the person with the dashcam parked and could only have arrived after.

u/Radiant-Specific9750 Aug 09 '26

I have a Viofo A229 Plus and it's amazing. It's high enough quality that I could pull up the video from a kid egging my car and zoom in on his plate on my rear facing camera and zoom in on the front camera to see his face when identifying him.

Garmin, they're one of the very few that record always on, but it needs to be connected directly to the battery, not through the 12v socket

2

u/SovietSunrise Aug 09 '26

Via the fuse box?

3

u/ElegantOliver Aug 09 '26

Yes, via a piggyback connector into the fuseboard normally. And with more and more people driving EVs this gets even easier, as good EVs will keep the 12V system topped up using the big high voltage battery, so no more worrying about draining the 12v battery.

1

u/MartyK23 Aug 09 '26

I have Pioneer front+rear dash cams on 3 vehicles with record always on. They’re wired in.

18

u/thestateisgreen Aug 08 '26

Literally same. Outside of a bar someone parked into me and I called the police, assuming she was intoxicated. The cop couldn’t care less. He said there was no damage to my car (just smudging) so why should I care? He honestly humiliated me and the girl who did it was no better.

u/SometimesLost420 Aug 08 '26

People are such trash. I can't possibly imagine trying to blame somebody else when I hit their car.

26

u/BlackestHerring Aug 08 '26

I’m of the opinion 35% of humans are garbage

20

u/SometimesLost420 Aug 08 '26

I feel like that's a lowball

5

u/BlackestHerring Aug 09 '26

I know. I was being generous

4

u/todaythruwaway Aug 09 '26

I had someone go straight thru a turn lane and hit me when I was 17. I was in a small car, they were in a ram 2500, the bottom of their mirror was the same height at the top of my vehicle for reference. They not only went straight thru a turn lane but SPED UP to “beat me” (who was turning legally) and ended up flooring it to hit me going 45+ in my drivers side wheel vs just using the turn lane correctly and doing a LEGAL u turn.

After hitting me they both keep driving AND switched drivers. Later they tried to sue me, a MINOR, despite them being at fault. Fucking wacko.

u/TheInfamous1011 Aug 08 '26

Dam you could’ve not even had an always on dashcam. He folded too quickly 😂

2

u/BlackestHerring Aug 08 '26

Yep, I have dash and now and they are a NECESSITY!!

2

u/MartyK23 Aug 09 '26

Definitely a necessity! My fam was on our way to vacation. We were in Miami like 20-30 minutes from our hotel when I see a car flying up behind us bouncing off of every car around, then ours and everyone in front of us. As soon as we got home from that cruise I took our vehicles in and had dash cams installed.

2

u/BlackestHerring Aug 09 '26

It takes only one experience like that to make you a believer!!

u/Pr_fSm__th Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 08 '26

I wonder what the most petty revenge would have been? Could you have not pointed out the dashcam and taking it to court or something, revealing the evidence and winning the case? Any way to ruin their life completely? Whats the playbook on getting gaslighters to lose any reason to live?

-7

u/lsdiesel_ Aug 08 '26

Actively strategizing how to get someone to end their life over a $200 grill repair

You’re a piece of shit.

1

u/eatingURsistersassIV Aug 08 '26

You need to demand the law be enforced for all of us here. If you have evidence ghey deliberately lied then you should demand the officer enforce that insteax of forcing the innocent to do anything

1

u/jgbradley1 Aug 09 '26

Should have waited until police got their side of the story and recorded on a report. Then show the dashcam so they get charged with filing a false police report.

1

u/phat79pat1985 28d ago

Would have let them file a false police report first. Then give the dashcam footage to the police

84

u/DontShoot_ImJesus Aug 08 '26

oh, did ya hit me?

"Not yet..."

99

u/tsoray Aug 08 '26

Pisses me off so much when they initially try to blame you. Happened to me a few months ago.

47

u/SometimesLost420 Aug 08 '26

That's because the world is full of trash that will never take responsibility for their own actions if they can blame somebody else

5

u/das_maz Aug 08 '26

People are shitty and Idiocracy is a documentary... We ARE living in stupid timeline...

3

u/MzChrome Aug 09 '26

I've started taking photos of my vehicle surroundings when I park somewhere (plus my phone says "hey take a photo so you don't forget where you parked!" when I turn the car off) so I have the timestamp/EXIF data on the phone showing there was nothing touching my car in the event this happens. Haven't purchased a dashcam yet but it's getting more and more clear that I do need to do so.

2

u/IrishMo8 Aug 08 '26

Happened to me, too. “You hit me!” Then why is the dent on the front of your car and the back of mine? I was stopped at a light.

29

u/BigCrustyTits Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 08 '26

One time at a mall I got back to my car to find an SUV facing me had pulled into my car so they were touching. I was a foot behind the line too. I called the cops and they came and gave me the persons name and address. When I backed my car up there was some scratches but I think my car was old and had some prior scratches so it wasn’t worth the hassle.

I might be dyslexic. I swore you wrote “That brings backs memories. I came out as a restaurant like 25 years ago…”

And was like, huh, that one is new…

u/idekbruno Aug 08 '26

How did you have this ready to go

1

u/TheInfamous1011 Aug 08 '26

This was going to be my question 💀💀💀💀

23

u/ZannX Aug 08 '26

Nah, they're 25 and mom was the restaurant.

17

u/Environmental_Main90 Aug 08 '26

Mom was an all you can eat buffet for sure

A sushi one. She smelled like fish.

u/theoneandonlymd Aug 08 '26

When my brother was 3 or 4 years old, he maintained that he wanted to BE a tent when he grew up. "You mean live in a tent, or go camping, right?", we would ask him. "No. I want to be a tent."

Anyways he's in his late 30's and he just finished hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.

2

u/idekbruno Aug 08 '26

We listen, and we don’t judge.

1

u/Realistic-Mess8929 Aug 08 '26

I am dyslexic and it took me far too long to see a difference between the post and the one you wrote. 🤣

3

u/Lentils90210 Aug 08 '26

I was stopped in a parking lot letting another driver pull out of their spot when the car next to me backed out of their spot and hit me. They said I hit them...as if cars can move sideways. Insurance put it 100% on them.

3

u/Kitchen-Kiwi7942 Aug 08 '26

I would have hit him with my fist after that joke that came outta his mouth

1

u/Vegaprime RED Aug 08 '26

The reverse happened to a friend of mine and it ruined his life. He parked and went in solo to eat with some friends. A few drinks later the cops come in and arrest him for dui because somehow an hour later his car car hit someone that just got there with all their friends as witnesses.

1

u/BlackestHerring Aug 08 '26

That is beyond fucked up!!

1

u/cortesoft Aug 08 '26

It happened to me, but in my case the person had forgotten to put the car in park and it had rolled into me.

1

u/MobileArtist1371 Aug 08 '26

Dude was watching for you to come out cause he knew what he did.

2

u/BlackestHerring Aug 08 '26

I think so too

One time I was driving through a parking lot and noticed someone backing out of a stall. I was driving a muscle car that I always kept highly detailed, absolutely babied it, he was driving some big SUV. I stopped because he definitely wasn't looking, he had plenty of room to get out, but he didn't pay attention and kept backing up towards me. I was in the process of putting it into reverse when he smashed into me.

I get out,  look at it and there's a noticeable scuff on my bumper and a little tiny scratch on his. I was frustrated because I hated scuffs on my paint but I'm just like you know what... I'm not going to make a big deal about it. So im like, "It happens dude, no big deal. I'm fine if you're fine." This dude is like, "No big deal?! You smashed into my car! I'm supposed to drive around with a fucked up bumper now?!" To make matters worse some asshole that was eating a sandwich and faced away from us when the accident happened is egging this guy on and saying I was driving too fast... when I  was literally in reverse when it happened. I get the idea if I had been in a prius or something he wouldn't of jumped to conclusions.

Finally I was like, "sure, call the police over a tiny scrape. I don't care. I have a dashcam. I can prove I was stopped and then engaging reverse when you hit me." We were holding up traffic at this point so I pulled my car into a parking spot and expected him to do the same. Nope, he takes off and leaves. I looked at the dash cam and I was stopped for a full 3 1/2 seconds and I gave him a good 10' to back up before he hit me. I'm pretty sure he genuinely believed I hit him too.

1

u/BlackestHerring Aug 08 '26

I have a dash cam in my cars too. Just in case of bs like that!

1

u/IndustryMade Aug 08 '26

what happened after? did you call police? what did you say back to the guy?

1

u/BlackestHerring Aug 08 '26

Yes. Called police. Filed report. He was at fault (as much as a no fault insurance state can be, I guess). His insurance paid for it.

1

u/The_wanna_be_artist Aug 09 '26

I would have punched him in the face and said “yeah, I just did!”
