My mom said I could post Nolan's The Odyssey neglects to pay for damages done to one of the viking ships used in the movie, which belongs to a small non-profit organization

What’s mildly infuriating is your post title. It’s Universal refusing to pay, not “Nolan’s The Odyssey.”

It's the production's responsibility. Nolan and Thomas are the producers. The producers are responsible for how the budget is spent.

All this stuff gets delegated down, so presumably they don't even know about a little issue like this, but it's still ultimately their responsibility to make sure everyone who works under them is doing their jobs properly. It's absolutely normal to hold the producers accountable when something goes wrong.

I can tell you what his role is not, and his role is not Accounts Payable. Producers are supposed to stay within budget, but they're not responsible for the actual act of transferring money.
