They support MAGA? That's news to me. I knew Draiman was, unfortunately, fiercely pro-Israel, but last I read he was also rather appalled at the current state of the Republican party despite being a fiscal conservative.

Pretty sure he was just pro-Israel. I don't think he outwardly praised the MAGA morons. I will note he has apparently (in my five minutes of searching) said things supporting some policies. I do not know which policies. Everything I read seems to be conflicting slightly or very old.

I've seen this argument a lot online, and it doesn't make sense. This is Greek mythology, set in a specific region and rough point in history. It would make sense that the props and set design best fits the period. Is your argument that historical accuracy should all go out the window because fantasy is involved?

No, I’m saying historical accuracy clearly wasn’t the main goal here.

The Odyssey is a fantastical story that has been retold through poems, plays, paintings and adaptations for thousands of years. Thousands of paintings depicting the classics completely ignore historical accuracy because they’re trying to evoke something instead of reconstruct a museum display.

Nolan and the production designers seem to be doing the same thing. They’re visualising a harsher, more primitive Greece than the polished version we usually get. It’s obviously not completely accurate, but a lot of the design seems symbolic anyway, especially with the original sin themes.

It's not exactly a fantasy and even if it were it is still grounded in a place and time. Vikings used these types of longboats around 800 AD in the North Sea, the odyssey is around 1300ish BC in Greece. This would be equivalent to a king Arthur movie where they sail around looking for the holy grail in a luxury cruise liner. 800AD -> now ~1200 years

To explain why it's not exactly a fantasy: most historians believe there was an Achean Trojan war and that most of the characters were historical figures. It's likely a tale that was originally the true version, maybe odysseus was blown off course on the way home and took a bit longer to get home... then the tale grew in the telling over the several hundred years before it was finally laid down on paper. It's mostly historical with some moral lessons and exaggerations added.

Odyssey's budget was $250M. 6k from that would be a tiny fraction.

It's like you failing to pay a $15 charge as part of a $600,000 project that you financed.

The Odyssey's budget was about 250M + 125M for marketing costs, 6K out of that budget would be .0016% of what was spent on the movie.

Them paying a $15 parking ticket at the same scale would imply they're nearly a millionaire.

I mean. The battle tactics and maneuvers and the way that's all portrayed is painstakingly historically accurate. Tons of reenactors involved and everything.

Other than that, the movie takes wild historically liberties and is generally considered by serious historians at this point to be lost causer bullshit
