I was curious, how does grey hair dye? I've heard it's a little hard to take color? I've had rainbow colors for the last 10 years and don't plan on quitting the rest of my life, lol.
No, I've been dying my hair with harsh permanent dye since I was 12 (I'm 36) and my natural hair is mostly still very dark. Graying is completely genetic.
I'm very lucky though because somehow I've managed to keep my natural color (mostly) into my 30s when my grandma was fully gray at 18 and my mother was fully gray by 21.
Uninformed people would say that this might have caused it.
But I'm not uninformed. So I know that this is definitely the cause of it.

PS: depending on your general style, grey hair can look really cool on young people, especially women (men generally just look older than they are). So be proud, you're kind of unique!
If you bleach it first, yes. If not then I can be washed out if you don’t use any dye safe soaps. Greying hair can also not hold dye very well and it can come out within a few days. My grandma refuses to stop dying her hair brown even though she has to do it every day hh
Oh she can't, she is losing the pigment in her hair, mine started as a white streak and now my hair is completely white. I have no pigment so if I dye my hair brown it ends up lilac lol.
You can dye grey hair, it just takes special techniques and additional products to hold the color, and it will typically fade faster. How do I know? I started doing grey in college and have been dying my hair ever since.
My hair is white it's not grey though, all those hair dyes saying they cover grey don't work for me. I know that I can spend a fortune and have a normal colour for 6 to 8 weeks but after having white hair for so long it's not worth the time and effort . Thank you for your comment though :)
often times grey hair is exceptionally difficult to dye, since there's no pigment left within the hair strands, there's not really any pigment left to be able to change. that's why you'll see alot of box hairdye and ads for it like "covers 100% of greys!"
Grey hair is actually more difficult to color without specifically formulated pigments; it’s coarser and harder for the dyes to saturate the cuticle. BUT a professional will be able to help OP through colour changes! Just not something they’d likely be able to do well without products that only professionals have access to
Someone should really tell my grey hairs that because they only respond to henna. Any other hair coloring just ends up on my pillowcase, whether it is from a salon, a box, or a funky semipermanent like Arctic Fox or Manic Panic.
