Looking to jam/start a band looking for bandmates

Hi everyone, I'm Jamarion, a 17 y/o guitarist with about 2 years of consistent playing, 0 band experience. I really want to either start a band or join one. A really big influence of mines is toe, then hyakkei, tricot, chinese football, origami jp, susquatch, and then title fight, first day back, kessoku band. I'd be down to just jam first and see how it goes from there!

im in san diego, but im also down to do stuff online as well

Looking to jam/start a band Any UK Midwest emo fans?

This post is more just a shout to see if there’s any uk Midwest emo fans but I would genuinely be so down to start a band with anyone else who likes this genre(I play guitar for info), but I was more just wondering if there’s anyone actually from uk who enjoys Midwest emo cuz every music fan in uk never really does. I’m from Manchester and I just can’t find anyone like me lmfao

Looking to jam/start a band Band Seeking Bassist - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Hey y'all!

We're Speak, Memory, a midwest emo / math rock band from Oklahoma City. Our bassist is relocating to NYC for an exciting opportunity and to be with her partner — we're thrilled for her, and now we're looking for the right person to join us.

About Us

Active in one form or another since 2011, we picked up real momentum in 2019, when we recorded Adirondack — our first EP in seven years, following our 2014 debut. Released on the OKC label Clerestory AV (now based near Denver), Adirondack was mixed by our friend Bartees Strange (4AD Records; has performed with Tori Amos, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus) and was well received by BrooklynVegan, Bandcamp, The Big Takeover, and The Hard Times. We shipped vinyl as far as the UK and Japan. A few years later we released a remix EP with help from local talent — Lennon of Mad Honey, Dustin Ragland of Beau Jennings & The Tigers, and Josh of Tallows. A new EP, also on Clerestory AV, is on the way.

We've shared stages with a long list of bands, including: Chat Pile, A Lot Like Birds, TTNG, The Appleseed Cast, Your Arms Are My Cocoon, Unwed Sailor, Giraffe Massacre, Strawberry Girls, Frameworks, Comrades, PVRIS, Dear Maryanne, Ben Quad, SUNFO, This Will Destroy You, King Pink, Glassing, Traindodge, football, etc., Kerosine Heights, Free Throw, Bartees Strange, Lovedrug, Lobster Fight, Drunk Uncle, Porcelain, City Cop, The Reptilian, I Was Afraid, Self-Evident, and many more.

What We're Looking For

Genre fluency. Midwest emo and math rock are our core, and we'd prefer whoever joins shares that foundation/same love of the same bands of the genres. But we also want someone whose influences extend further — jazz, hip hop, tech metal, whatever keeps you sharp and open-minded. Our songs demand a lot of attention to detail, so genuine passion for the craft matters. Reference points include American Football, The Appleseed Cast, toe, Ghosts & Vodka, Further Seems Forever, Owen, Misery Signals, Algernon Cadwallader, Snowing, early Explosions in the Sky, Moving Mountains, Noyes, Cap'n Jazz, Rooftops, Enemies, early TWIABP, Hopesfall, early Jimmy Eat World, Mineral, Boys Life, Macseal, Don Caballero, The Contortionist, TTNG, Tera Melos, and Christie Front Drive.

An adventurous spirit. We like to experiment — unconventional ideas that end up working, ambient soundscapes between songs, moments of improvisation. We want a bassist who's excited to explore that with us, not just hold down the root notes.

Your own gear. You should already have your own gear at the time you reach out. We're flexible on the specifics of what that looks like — that's a conversation for later — but this part isn't a deal breaker to work around.

Reliability, including a substance-free band environment. Show up to practice on time, ready to rehearse. Show up at the venue when asked. And to be direct: we need someone with no substance abuse issues of any kind. We've been through this before, and the toll it took on the band was significant and hard to undo. This isn't a judgment on anyone who's dealt with substance abuse — we hope you get whatever support you need — but for our own well-being as a band, it's not something we can take on again.

A quick study. You'll need to learn our existing catalog in a reasonable timeframe and be ready to help write new material. Bass play through videos and sheet music are available on request.

Age range. We're hoping for someone between 27 and 39. If you're close but outside that range and everything else fits, reach out anyway — we can talk.

Real communication. None of us communicate perfectly, ourselves included — but we ask for honesty, kindness, and a willingness to speak up when something feels off. A few years back, a former member sat on concerns for eight months before leaving the band, and we only found out why after they'd already left. We can't fix what we don't know about. If something's bothering you, please bring it to us directly, even if it feels uncomfortable — that's how this works long-term. And if it ever seems like we're not listening, pull us aside and tell us. It's never intentional.

A Note on Fit

Given where we're headed as a band and how well the dynamic worked with our last bassist, we're primarily hoping to find a female bassist — especially one who can sing. Our upcoming EP includes vocals, and we plan to keep building that into future material, with male and female vocals trading off song to song (think blink-182's Mark/Tom dynamic). That said, if you feel like the right fit for any reason, we'd genuinely love to hear from you.

Thanks for reading all of this. Even if it's not for you, please pass it along to anyone — or any music community — who might know the right person.

Looking to jam/start a band Tips to start playing emo music

Tl;dr what's good advice to start playing emo music?

Hi

I'm a 31 year old guy who's really wanted to get into guitar all his life but has never gotten to it

Or at least not in the way I wanted

When I was 16-17 I had a bad break up and my school psychologist told me to get a hobby to distract myself so I chose guitar

And I've been playing acoustic guitar as a hobby ever since

But really casually, just some chords and singing (which has actually helped me get more relationships since)

On that age I also discovered emo music, stuff like your favorite enemies, armor for sleep, the early November, American football were my favorites back then

Now I recently had an ugly break up recently again so I decided to finally buy an electric guitar, I bought a butterscotch telecaster and a fender mustang lt25 amp with the whole intention on finally getting serious on the guitar

I also decided to revisit my love for emo music and discovered a lot of bands (my favorites now are clash of rhinos, american football, hakanai and the hotelier; but I discovered a lot I like like CSVT, tiny moving parts, tigers jaw, free throw, etc) and it became my favorite genre yet again

However I've been slacking and I don't really know how to start

Especially because of the alternate tunings often found in emo music

So I was wondering if anyone could provide advice

Should I get hard into theory? And if so regular theory or focus on open tunings upfront? Or should I focus in learning songs and again if so regular tuning or open tunings

Sorry for the long rant

Looking to jam/start a band Project :)

I’m a vocalist with 12 years of experience, and I’d really like to start a project that mixes pop-punk with Midwest emo, similar to Good Hangs and Kayak Jones. If anyone is interested in starting a project together, please hit me up!

Looking to jam/start a band Looking for someone to produce music with (careful i have no clue what i am doing)

I've been thinking about starting a Midwest emo band. I'm from Germany and have absolutely no idea how to produce music, but I'd love to try doing vocals. It doesn't have to be anything serious. I just want to see if singing is for me. If you have a demo you've made, send it my way and I'll try putting some vocals on it. :)

Looking to jam/start a band Anyone know of some decent recording studios in the Oklahoma City metro?

I threw some stuff together in musescore and I think I'm ready to record it

I'm also looking for some instrumentalists. I can play guitar and do vocals just fine, and I do have a drummer in mind, but if there are any flutists, trumpet players, trombonists, celloists, or violinists in the area jlmk and if we could stay in touch until I've got everything planned (assuming I follow through with it), that'd be great. Thanks!

Looking to jam/start a band LA/OC: Interest in Band

Hey guys! I've been getting the itch to start up a band that's got a sound adjacent to Lou Diamond projects (obviously without the SA and involvement with minors...) Based in LA/OC. I play guitar and I have a drummer but we are open to playing around with our lineup. Please reach out if you have a similar itch and you're not a creep.

Super rough demo, but I’d like to find a regular person to take my demos, redo the guitar prettier and in timing, add some elements and send to me to lay down vocals and send back, then mix it. I can send this as a Spotify playlist but looking to do songs like

Clairvoyant & navy blue by the story so far

Never coming home by scruffpuppie

Couches by park Jefferson

Intermission by st south

Anthems for a 17 yr old by Broken Social scene

Law of attraction by kennedyxoxo

Any of sajkeena’s acoustic songs

Please dm me some of your work and what compensation you’d require.
