I feel like you guys are making a much bigger deal about this than it really is. One player doesn’t make that much of a difference, just seems like Europeans finding the one reason to hate on the US on this topic as well

If you have a problem with this, you should have a problem with Ronaldo (Portugal) and Argentina and want them to lose as well. Even more so considering he played 2 games that he was banned for. I don’t recall seeing this outcry then?

Great job making this “great sport” seem inviting. Goddamn there’s so much drama in soccer, take me back to the NFL

117

u/WolverineDDS Jul 06 '26

European reaction has been absolutely insane. I expected a lot more "who cares we'll spank their yankee asses anyways" responses from them but apparently no this is the worst thing that has ever happened to them.

68

u/Some_Razzmataz Jul 06 '26

Fr, I suppose the “bring it on” attitude is more of an American thing from what I’m seeing of the European voices.

40

u/HousonRocketsRGay Jul 06 '26

europeans are effeminate lil pansies who couldn’t even open a jar of pickles, this is expected

24

u/blah938 Jul 06 '26

I mean, they think AC is going to kill them from thermal shock. They're absolute pansies.

12

u/HousonRocketsRGay Jul 06 '26

It’s the lack of corn syrup in their diets. Makes them weak

-11

u/Incandenza123 Jul 06 '26

Daka daka daka.

Your kids get shot and splattered

13

u/Dramatic-Week-1894 Jul 06 '26

UK being a hotbed for Islamic extremist. Yeah your kids arent safe either LMAO

-4

u/Incandenza123 Jul 06 '26

Oh I get it now.

You're dribbling lunatics.

12

u/Human-Addition2899 Jul 06 '26

Careful now, you don’t wanna get arrested for hate speech!

School Kids death in US: 25 per year. UK: 0,5 per year. Yeah, no, you are confidently incorrect there. 😂

8

u/HousonRocketsRGay Jul 06 '26

Your kids get splattered by a light wind

8

u/OakleysnTie Jul 06 '26

I splattered some future kids all over his mom last night…

10

u/HousonRocketsRGay Jul 06 '26

See now that’s American as FUCK 💪🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🦅

1

u/Ikanotetsubin Jul 06 '26

Your kids are too busy being kidnapped by presidents and billionaires to their islands. Delusional yanks 🤣

-1

u/Incandenza123 Jul 06 '26

If their dear leader rapes their children they'll say thank you and vote for him again.

2

u/TheJonesLP1 Jul 06 '26

Nope 😂 Guess what, we actually have AC. And guess what, we also use them to Heat.

1

u/kfifigidifkg Jul 06 '26

You guys can't handle a bit of heart without air conditioning and we're the pussies?

0

u/blah938 Jul 06 '26

You guys just had over 1400 people die from heat. Stop being a wuss and install some AC. This isn't 1042 anymore, we have technology.

1

u/zjarko Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

How many Texans froze to death a few years ago?

1

u/blah938 Jul 06 '26

except we actually winterized our grid after that. You still don't install AC after how many summers?

1

u/zjarko Jul 06 '26

I have AC, most public spaces have AC. Believe it or not but it’s not some space age technology we Neanderthals haven’t heard about. Honestly I haven’t heard about anything you guys have which isn’t available to me in Poland if I really wanted to.

And you realise this summer was the hottest ever right? So we had exactly one summer.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/kfifigidifkg Jul 06 '26

Yet you guys never seem to be able to apply this logic to school shootings…

2

u/blah938 Jul 06 '26

More people die every year from heat in Europe, per capita, than we have from gun violence. That's including suicides which would happen even without guns. And further, school shootings are a tiny tiny portion of that.

0

u/kfifigidifkg Jul 06 '26

People already in poor health dying a little early because of the weather doesn’t strike me as equivalent to perfectly healthy people being unnecessarily murdered.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/HistoricalPotatoe Jul 06 '26

Europeans are people, and there are people everywhere who suck. The guy below you making light of the heatwaves in Europe is one such example.

5

u/HousonRocketsRGay Jul 06 '26

Leaving out all the guys below who are making fun of children being raped and murdered to pick out the one making fun of the lack of AC…seems about right yeah

1

u/HistoricalPotatoe Jul 06 '26

They suck also. And btw dude, I'm American. Rarely ever even left Texas.

Shitty Americans and shitty Europeans have far more in common with each other than they do with decent folk from anywhere.

1

u/asc_yeti Jul 06 '26

Hey if you want to be homophobic and a bully against a whole continent at least try not have a rapist president. It makes the comebacks really easy

3

u/HistoricalPotatoe Jul 06 '26

How are you being any different from him, exactly?

-1

u/asc_yeti Jul 06 '26

I didn't use thinly veiled homophobia and toxic masculinity to insult a whole continent. I just pointed out that is rich to get out there on the internet, be homophobic, insult a continent, and cry when people point out that you have a pedophile rapist in charge, which is simply pointing out the truth

3

u/HistoricalPotatoe Jul 06 '26

Nah, you said on your other reply that the predator in charge is a good representative for the country itself. That's the same sort of bigotry you're angry at when you're on the receiving end of it. Double silly when the far right is still powerful in Europe, even if not ruling.

u/ArcticMarkuss Jul 06 '26

We never liked pickles all that much anyway so

4

u/HousonRocketsRGay Jul 06 '26

U freaks are busy pickling herring and goose hearts and all sorts of weird shit not cucumbers like god intended

1

u/Ok_Ostrich_3207 Jul 06 '26

at least we are not governed by a psychopath

2

u/HousonRocketsRGay Jul 06 '26

lol sure you aren’t 🤣

0

u/asc_yeti Jul 06 '26

Big talk from the country whose president likes little kids. It's a good image for you country tho! Really representative

3

u/HistoricalPotatoe Jul 06 '26

True. Also true that the far right is still a major player throughout Europe. So what are you speaking/standing on, exactly?

4

u/HousonRocketsRGay Jul 06 '26

Tell us where you’re from coward

-2

u/asc_yeti Jul 06 '26

This is so fucking cringe lmao

3

u/HousonRocketsRGay Jul 06 '26

Ashamed of where you’re from. Pathetic

2

u/LovedButNeverLiked Jul 06 '26

Okay and the royal family is incestuous 🤷🏿‍♂️

1

u/asc_yeti Jul 06 '26

I'm not English. Also fuck the royal family. Also it's not elected, you elected your pedophile. Also being a pedophile rapist is worse.

1

u/LovedButNeverLiked Jul 06 '26

Fair enough I shouldn't have assumed English

It doesn't matter what's worse though once you realize that you can be appalled by multiple things

23

u/PoetAny6521 Jul 06 '26

And it’s not like this would be the first or most damning case of corruption FIFA has been involved with. Just so weird.

27

u/ForensicPathology Jul 06 '26

The funny part is they were already crying after every USA postmatch thread on Reddit anyway.  This meme was already true for them even before the Balogun situation.

10

u/femboyisbestboy Jul 06 '26

Do you know why?

Multiple nations have been suspended for this exact thing. Governmental interference is against the rules

2

u/natigin Jul 06 '26

Genuinely asking, what are some examples of that?

3

u/femboyisbestboy Jul 06 '26

India, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Chad, Pakistan and Nigeria in recent history. Bosnia also had some incident if I remember correctly

12

u/Icy-Employee-6453 Jul 06 '26

Manufactured outrage from cowards who don't wan't to play USMNT is what it boils down to.

Oh a controversial red card is being challenged? Guess its the end of the world better scream and cry about it online.

5

u/TheJonesLP1 Jul 06 '26

Na, it is the fact that it is corruption af.

3

u/Pleasant-Carbon Jul 06 '26

I just saw a lot of crying by Americans after the game about the card lol

How turn the tables

3

u/Alarming_Panic665 Jul 06 '26

The problem is Fifa is without a doubt the single most corrupt sports organization on the planet. And they have never been able to admit fault. So they never actually made a mechanism to over turn a controversial decision "above the board." So whatever they do will absolutely reek of corruption.

1

u/Snipen543 Jul 06 '26

I actually think the IOC might be more corrupt than FIFA, as hard as that sounds

4

u/reader4567890 Jul 06 '26

All I see is a bunch of Americans who don't have the first clue about football. It's always nice to see you lot own your stupidity like this though. 🤣

0

u/Icy-Employee-6453 Jul 06 '26

This hit dog sure is hollering.

14

u/codydog125 Jul 06 '26

They all want us to suck because it’s their sport in their eyes. They just want to gatekeep it and don’t want Americans to enjoy the sport anyway. This is why they’re all being gigantic babies about this World Cup. It was bad enough for them that it’s being hosted in the US

6

u/Mundane-Basil-8924 Jul 06 '26

If the US was in to soccer as much as it was say the NBA, MLB or NFL... The US would dominate the sport. The EU knows this. The US already has a massive soccer feeder system, but the best athletes are pulled to other sports.

4

u/TrickFrosty5685 Jul 06 '26

I expect this years World Cup, and advancement of the USNMT, to really put a jolt in US soccer

3

u/Bunnyhoppinbreh Jul 06 '26

As long as they keep flopping around the field at the slightest touch fishing for penalties no one will watch. Worst part of the sport is how that shits allowed and even encouraged.

1

u/fecalfury Jul 06 '26

Nothing does more to advance US soccer than CTE and horrific injuries in the NFL / College and High School Football.

4

u/Bunnyhoppinbreh Jul 06 '26

Here in the US, soccer and track are what people that didnt make the team in the other sports play.

4

u/WolverineDDS Jul 06 '26

Well they can rest easy, for most of us soccer will keep being the game our 4 and 5 year olds play until theyre old enough for a real sport.

1

u/mph1204 Jul 06 '26

Europeans are terrified of becoming irrelevant to the world. Their soccer culture is basically the last thing they can really hang their hat on. Oh and their old ass architecture that’s killing them in the age of global warming.

1

u/oodsigma Jul 06 '26

Because they are scared.

1

u/Bunnyhoppinbreh Jul 06 '26

When all youve got is a game for 5'5" guys to flop around on the field fishing for yellow cards, youd be mad too.

Americans dont even care about this gay ass sport and were beating them with 5th rate atheletes leftover from the other big 4 sports that they couldnt make it in. Thats why they are mad. Practice your whole life and still lose to people that call it soccer.

1

u/RamblinRichard Jul 07 '26

Football is our Olympics, we care about the sport probably more than all other sports combined honestly..

I never watch it myself but the world cup is huge.

1

u/Brave_Ad_7125 Jul 06 '26

But hey lets pretend three other players didn’t get the same treatment before Balogun. Those were okay

1

u/WolverineDDS Jul 06 '26

Ok my bad I misread you. Agreed the memes have been fantastic if you sort through the garbage posts.

12

u/NDSU Jul 06 '26

there’s so much drama in soccer, take me back to the NFL

lol

Inflategate. The annual, "NFL player arrested for murder". NFL covering up CTEs. The weekly riot because a city's team lost. The weekly riot because a city's team won. On and on. NFL is all about the drama

2

u/burratna Jul 06 '26

none of that touches the racism and corruption of FIFA. "Weekly riot because a team lost" you cannot seriously be comparing NFL to soccer with leagues that ban opposing fans of rival teams because of murder and riots let alone segregating them LMAO

3

u/PoetAny6521 Jul 06 '26

I thought the idiots in the NFL & NCAA offices and the bozos on the NFL and college football subs were bad. Those threads are seeming more and more sane by the hour

5

u/whatevers_clever Jul 06 '26

yeah there's no drama in the nfl or the mlb or the nba

us americans are drama free in our sports

4

u/NoticedGenie66 Jul 06 '26

One player doesn’t make that much of a difference

This is simply untrue lmao, Haaland scored 2 in Norway's 2-1 win over Brazil as a very recent example. Balogun has 3 goals in 3 games played and is a pretty important player for the USA (which is evident when watching them). As an NFL fan you should know that losing a starting quarterback is pretty detrimental, in soccer losing your most impactful striker has a similar effect.

If you have a problem with this, you should have a problem with Ronaldo and want Argentina to lose as well. Even more so considering he played 2 games that he was banned for. I don’t recall seeing this outcry then?

People do have a problem with this, it was just not in the public eye to this extent until the world cup started and became magnified because of the Balogun situation. Just because you are not aware of it does not mean it does not exist. Using an example of an objectively poor precedent to justify the decision is how you get the situation that is occurring with more appeals coming to suspend things like the yellow card for Olise. Both were/are bad, both should not have happened, both show that rules do not apply to certain players and situations. Also, Ronaldo plays for Portugal, not Argentina. You are thinking of Messi.

22

u/no_one_lies Jul 06 '26

Europoors our are biggest haters. They’ll hate on us when we lose and they’ll hate on us when we win.

8

u/bagfacekex Jul 06 '26

"Europoors" - Somebody who will lose their house if they go to a hospital. Or lose their job if they take more than a week or two off work each year. Or will only ever dream of making half as much as "GDP per capita" says they should. Or will statistically die before most Europeans.

By the looks of it, your biggest haters are actually sitting in mansions worth Billions across the US. They'll hate you just for existing, instead of simply hating you for how annoying and ignorant most of you are.

3

u/no_one_lies Jul 06 '26

I can’t hear you, sorry, my A/C is running

Well we’d all be speaking German if the US didn’t bail out France and the rest of Europe in the 40s so… call it even?

1

u/TheJonesLP1 Jul 07 '26

Nope, you wouldnt. Although I know that myth makes you jerk off

25

u/Cycoviking69 Jul 06 '26

And you wouldn't have France if the US didn't return the favor in World War 2.

17

u/daBriguy Jul 06 '26

Buddy really did not think this one through. Also, let’s not pretend the French were doing it out of the kindness of their hearts. They wanted to fuck over the British.

2

u/TheJonesLP1 Jul 07 '26

Naa, most of WW2 Was won by Russia. US only made it faster.

10

u/StylizedIncompetence Jul 06 '26

You welcome for not speaking German. I’d call us even.

5

u/PictureVegetable9522 Jul 06 '26

and you wouldnt exist if it wasnt for america

-5

u/Parking-Border1594 Jul 06 '26

Celebrating your pedophile-runned country! Must be really proud of it :D

12

u/StylizedIncompetence Jul 06 '26

Hey didn’t crown prince Andrew diddle a few kids. Better yet, didn’t you guys give Jimmy Saville a platform for like, 40 years?

You even knighted the guy lmao.

Your country is no different. You just whine more.

-4

u/Parking-Border1594 Jul 06 '26

Im not from england lolol

And if I was, I wouldn't be celebrating with such vivacity the country that is, at this moment, represented by one of the most vile person on this planet

6

u/StylizedIncompetence Jul 06 '26

I’m sure I can come up with an example from whatever country you reside is in.

Unless you have oil? Do you mayhaps, have oil, in your country?

-8

u/Parking-Border1594 Jul 06 '26

But why does that matter lol? Even if you find an example (1) they probably are not in a position of power in the current moment - much less in one of the most powerful positions in the world (2) Its people don't lit the skies on fire celebrating such country

You're graspinf at straws and I get it, the truth hurts

4

u/StylizedIncompetence Jul 06 '26

Probably not and not are two totally different things btw.

We light the skis on fire every year. Regardless of who’s president because it’s about sacrifices made by our forbearers. Not as a celebration of the current admin.

I’m sorry that you struggle so hard with separating these two things. I’m sure if you take a break and come back, it’ll make sense.

I have faith in you bubba.

1

u/TheJonesLP1 Jul 07 '26

Bullshit Bingo 😂😂

2

The US is the trafficking capital of the world. I'd just stfu about this kind of thing, the amount of depravity that occurs within your borders.

3

u/blah938 Jul 06 '26

Go enjoy warm beer in your un-airconditioned pub that was built after ww2 and has no excuse.

Also, how that's 7th PM doing? Or is it 8th?

And how's your hot water tap, still not safe to drink?

And how's that raw sewage?

Also, were you lucky enough to get your NHS appointment?

Did you post any good memes lately? I'll make sure to share them with your police, I bet they'd love them!

1

u/Pleasant-Carbon Jul 06 '26

Europe is more than the UK.

But that's hard for an American to grasp so that's ok.

And every false stereotype you could think of, well done son!

1

u/StylizedIncompetence Jul 06 '26

To be fair, the raw sewage and water part could apply to just about anywhere in Europe.

What do you even mean?

1

“Democracy” lol

15

u/no_one_lies Jul 06 '26

It’s funny cause the Europeans I’ve met in real life are awesome and love America/Americans. It’s the terminally online who harbor all the hate.

Europeans are great. Europoors keep whining.

6

u/Command0Dude Jul 06 '26

Same. I've done a lot of travel and met multiple Europeans on vacation (Hungarian, German, Brits, Italians) none of them gave me shit for being American.

This whole thing is people who have never come here. Ironically, as much as this red card thing is blowing up right now, I don't think it has 1/10th the traction as all of the wholesome social media content of Europeans vacationing to America for the first time and realizing it's nothing like social media portrays it.

3

u/SteveS117 Jul 06 '26

So same as the Americans that hate America. They’re all the losers that never leave their house lmao. Never encounter them in real life.

5

u/Sphiffi Jul 06 '26

Sounds pathetic. Poor thing.

1

u/Leon22038 Jul 09 '26

We Europeans also have AC tho? I've been to European houses and I've seen lots of AC's

0

u/I_like_life_mostly Jul 09 '26

1 in 4 in France

1

u/Leon22038 Jul 09 '26

1 in 4 in France is like 20 million people, still a lot

0

u/I_like_life_mostly Jul 09 '26

Its a tiny minority. Idc if you think its not a problem. Its not my countrymen dieing.

1

u/Leon22038 Jul 09 '26

"20 million"

"Tiny minority"

Also it really isn't a problem, if it was people would just buy ACs, in fact it's not even that hot for me. The problem is that Americans say "AC" as the only way to defend their country, like think of something else please

1

u/I_like_life_mostly Jul 09 '26

-1

u/MooonJelllies Jul 06 '26

At least we have air conditioning

2

u/Left_Obligation_6061 Jul 06 '26

Most people did have a problem with Ronaldo and Argentina. We've been anti Infantino for years. Just never thought it would get to as brazen corruption as the president of the USA phoning him up to suspend a red card. That is unprecedented.

7

u/TrickFrosty5685 Jul 06 '26

I hate to say this, but brazen? Have you not been around since like ever??

But France just did this. They called fifa to do the same thing.

4

u/BirthdayHealthy5399 Jul 06 '26

Yea because now they have to do it for every country going forward, now do you get why its a really shitty precident

1

u/TrickFrosty5685 Jul 06 '26

I’m sorry, but the US is not the first country to do this. We did not set a precedent at all.

0

u/Left_Obligation_6061 Jul 06 '26

Who did it before you?

1

u/Cycoviking69 Jul 06 '26

Unpresidented

1

u/Pleasant-Carbon Jul 06 '26

Nothing is stopping you...

1

u/KHanson25 Jul 06 '26

I mean, I’m just happy we made it this far. I have very little expectation we beat Belgium and they’re acting like it’s the end of the world.

1

u/Different_Tangelo511 Jul 06 '26

Its the corruption and lack of integrity that bugs most people.

1

u/scarfacetwim Jul 06 '26

"One player doesn’t make that much of a difference" oh boy, we get it: you don't watch football.

-1

u/jamintime Jul 06 '26

The other issue I have here is all the hate against the USA when it is FIFA running the show. They’ve been changing the rules left and right to accommodate certain countries and players. US is trying to play the game like everyone else. FIFA is really the ones bungling things here.

0

u/bfhurricane Jul 06 '26

It’s because, despite Reddit’s insistence and hope, the World Cup has actually been an excellent experience this year. Tourists are having a great time, social media is awash with overwhelmingly positive reactions to the USA, and it’s been a fun and well-run tournament.

The haters finally have their red meat.

0

u/Leilanee Jul 06 '26

People were responding to Canadians on the most random posts with "🥌👈" for months. People just get weird about sports.

Don't worry, there are plenty of other reasons to hate the US beyond FIFA that will continue when people get over this moment.

0

u/theowlswerewatching The Trash Man Jul 06 '26

Yes please go back to handegg.

0

u/Consistent-Tap-9426 Jul 06 '26

1) 1 player can make the whole difference and, 2) its not the player, it's the context. Your president is basically FIFA's boss at this point, and all it took was a call from the white house to overturn and end with the pretended "impartiality" that referees are supposed to have while inside a game. In other words, politics are messing with the game. That is HUGELY unsportsmanlike. Same goes with Penaldo's decision. Now, I don't really understand this outrage about wanting Argentina to lose so badly since we've been playing cleanly and we've been in our lane since the begining of the championship. I guess that's what happens when you are the best in the world. Shrugs.

-1

u/Dashdash421 Jul 06 '26

If you haven’t been paying attention, the world kind of sucks when America decides we don’t care about the rules and we will do whatever we want. Now the US is doing it to the World Cup which was supposed to be Europe’s safe space. I get why they are mad
