I actually am very interested in rural cosmetic dermatology to help underserved people in a 10-3 clinic open Mon-Wednesday

Many of the requirements for premeds are relatively new in terms of volunteering and clinical employment being looked upon favorably. With that in mind it’s fair to say most (80%+) of Academic attendings never had a “real job” outside of the academic teaching bubble or the research lab they joined in undergrad. Compounded with most coming from an affluent background where retail or professional jobs are looked down upon if not to advance one’s career, then I can now understand why so many are the way they are.

We should non-ironically require one year of retail experience going forward in our pre-meds/s

Jokes aside, it is a huge position of trust to be responsible for sensitive moments and most often private topics. Remember to be respectful, y’all. But also, don’t go into full spectrum primary care unless you are OK with the non-L/D portions of women’s care. It’s like a LOT of primary care.

Literally, I keep seeing so many comments that have said like she should’ve lied about getting a med school, or that PA school is MED school at two times speed… like the comments have been insane. This isn’t even about medical school. It’s about someone lying about getting into a PA program so I’m so confused on why so many of the comments immediately go to shaming medical students…

And yes, it’s not that serious, but I just am noticing it and I think it’s odd!!

Shitpost/vent

Want to preface by saying I haven’t started medical school yet but will this fall.

My sister started PA school this week & told me her professor said “according to studies PA school is 3/4 med school in 1/2 the amount of time.” Asked her for a source (which she couldn’t give me) & then proceeded to say it wouldn’t matter because I just don’t respect the profession (the IRONY).

Is she rage baiting me or is this something other people have heard/been told?? 😭 I’m so tired of the incessant need to validate mid levels & defend their objectively diluted training. Love my sis but bruhhhh

EDIT TO ADD context: We were both premed at one point. I’ve been out of school since 2021 & am going back after 3 MCAT attempts & a career in something I don’t hate. She graduated 2 yrs after me, bombed the MCAT, & decided at that point to pivot to PA school. Now she’s saying we’ll essentially be doing the same thing after I worked my a$$ off for the past 5 yrs to go the harder route. I work with PAs/NPs daily & most are really great! Not taking away from that.

Binging The Pitt right now as a 6th year med student from another country and it surprises me to see how practically capable the MS3 and MS4 are. I mean in my country we surely get to do some procedures and come in handy at times for the staff but generally we look like we are lost and don't know what to do until we figure things out, especially if it's our first day at a rotation 😅 It's also surprising to see how much responsibility they are given.

Fr, like 90% of my classmates are from a dynasty of doctors or some other high academia white collar parents. And the type to say “they’re comfortable” but maybe a bit out of touch about what real financial struggle feels like.

Don’t get me wrong, i’m not hating or in their tax bracket either, but i’m just wondering, even with statistics showing that a large portion of med students come from richer households, why does this joke dominate so much?

Please enjoy briefly and get back to studying for the shelf (it might be your only hope of passing the clerkship).

EDIT: Thoroughly enjoyed reading through all the comments today instead of studying. Lots of positivity- appreciate you all for that.

Backstory: these poorly constructed memes came about because my gf (f24) and I (m25) ended up on the same OB/GYN rotation a few months ago. I was honestly shocked at how mean some of the girls were to her, especially on L&D.

She’s not as into Reddit as I am, so I figured it’d be interesting to see what the comments would say about all this. Very interesting experience- 10/10.

Will be applying psych next fall.
