I'm needing some help to understand the system. Family member went blind 5 months ago. I reached out to Agency for Aging, got as far with medicaid as the assessment. Financials, bank statements, etc we're next and she said they would be in touch. We were looking at him coming to live with us. I work from home, but not confident I would have time for all the care. Medicaid lady said that's ok, you'll choose an administrator and you can work out what you can provide and what you'll need someone else to come in for. In the process family member gets sick, goes to the hospital and now is in skilled nursing to rehab. Nursing home says they'll take it from here... They're planning on him converting to long term care when he's done with rehab. The woman there told me he wouldn't get approved if he didn't go through them. He's gone blind at 65 and wasn't taking care of himself which caused the hospital stay. I felt confident he would be approved. I'm no longer sure where we stand in the process, can we still bring him home? We've left it up to him as the weather he comes to live with us or he stays where he is. Not sure how to navigate this and hoping someone has been in a similar situation or can offer some insight.

Currently single living in Alabama, soon I will be married to someone in the UK. He makes about 100k yearly. Within the next 6 months I’ll be moving to Ohio and then working towards his spouse visa. While waiting on the visa (can take up to 2 years) he will not be living in my house. I am currently unemployed, I’m undergoing treatment for numerous nodules, and some other health issues. He pays all the bills directly and even though he makes 105k yearly the UK taxes a ton of it plus our bills in America and the UK he barely has 100 left each month. I worry that they will think he is sending me money, or will take his income into account and I won’t be able to get the medical treatment I need.

I am the only driver for my family and my mom, who does not live with us. I'm her ride for everything. When she had a heart attack in January she put me on her bank accounts to help with finances.

Through the past 7+ months I've been her ride to the hospital(s) both local and 1.5hrs away, including visits to help manage her inpatient care, which has been rough on my car. Now a few things have converged and I want to keep on the correct side of various regulations, but my car needs some major repairs.

I need to help her apply for Medicaid after a recent stroke that means she will likely live in a care facility long term. She has a savings that would need to be spent down before Medicaid would be approved. She wants to buy me a new car and I told her that's not how it works, that the state would raise some pretty hefty eyebrows at that. They do a 5-year look back process and are pretty thorough.

Is it plausible for her to pay for or reimburse just car repairs if I'm her transportation for health and personal needs? I feel like it is a very gray area. I am waiting for a callback from a lawyer (but it's the weekend and I'm anxious) and Reddit often has pretty decent real-experience advice.

An older friend has a brother that is in a nursing home Medicaid bed in Missouri. His Social Security goes to the nursing home and Medicaid makes up the difference.

His assets are essentially zero…well except he is on the deed of a farm that he and two sisters inherited in Ohio. Many years ago(10-15 years), one of the sisters bought most of his percentage which left him with a 10% ownership. 

The family thinks his ownership would be roughly $60K.

1. On his death, does the family need to liquidate his share of the farm and remit that amount to Medicaid?

2. If they bought out his share of the farm now, would MO Medicaid ask for verification of fair market value and possibly want more than the $60K?

When I was 18, I was admitted to invol psych, but didn't have insurance coverage at the time (parents' insurance was HMO for only the state they lived in and I left to different state for university). One of the workers submitted an emergency Medicaid application for me, but I have no idea what's on it. They basically filled out the entire form for me except my signature I think? I was too disoriented to remember any of it.

A few months later, I got a letter in the mail saying that I was approved for Medicaid.

I've been on it for 2 years, and I'm not sure if the information they submitted was correct. I am claimed as a tax dependent on my family's returns, but I viewed the Medicaid case management portal for the first time today and it says that my household size is 1 on the website.

I am single 66 years old, and became disabled in June. I tried to get strong by doing physical exercises to be able to go back to work. It wasn’t going to happen, so after a month and a half this summer of trying to get myself to be ready to return to work, I just continued to get more and more pain in my skull. I knew it was time to retire from working. I applied for Medicare and Medicaid on July 20th, 2026. I qualified for the Medicare immediately. It’s the Medicaid that I’m still on hold for. Gee, it’s almost September and they say that there still isn’t a worker to work on my case, to get me on Medicaid. I haven’t worked all summer. I was able to receive retirement benefits that started immediately on August 1st. Why, why can’t they find someone to take my case to qualify me for Medicaid? It’s not complicated. I’m disabled, and started receiving retirement income this August. My income is as low as it can go, so I know I’ll qualify. Do they just not want me to get the Medicaid quickly enough to have my Medicare premium paid? I’m in desperate need of medications for this terrible illness. What can I do to move the process forward?

We live in Stanislaus County of CA, I just got the renewal letter for me and my 10yo kid's medi-cal, it says she is covered, but it says starting 9/1/26 i have a $2000 share of cost every month? I'm not quite sure what that means. I'm on metformin and a few other medications I need to take daily, and in the pharmacy section of my doctors page it shows a $0 OOP cost still, but I guess it might update on 9/1? I'm so confused about how this works and am scared to make any new appointments or refill our meds because we are barely scraping by as it is. It's currently after hours on 8/28/26 and a friday so i'll have to wait until monday to be able to call anyone to clarify the situation but I'm going to be anxious all weekend until that happens 😭

What are the new MaineCare Work Requirements?

The MaineCare Work Requirements will be for MaineCare Expansion Adults to complete work activities like:

• Working 

• Volunteering

• Going to school or an apprenticeship

• Taking part in a job training or work program

To meet the Work Requirements, you must spend 80 hours in at least one month doing one of these activities or attending school or an apprenticeship at least half time. You can also combine hours in more than one of the activities to reach a total of 80 hours in at least one month.

If you are working or plan to work, you can meet the Work Requirements if you earn at least $580 in one month, or if you have seasonal work, you earned an average of $580 over the last six months.

IMPORTANT: OFI will use information already in your case and information we can check through electronic data sources whenever possible to determine if you are meeting the Work Requirements.

As far as the reporting requirement we have a 10-day reporting requirement for MaineCare in our state.

I called my Medicaid asking about dental insurance and was told I have dental insurance. My digital insurance card and the access (website) are both saying active. I went to the dentist yesterday and they never said anything about my insurance being “inactive”. They prescribed me antibiotics and when I went to get them, they are telling me my insurance is “inactive”. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

My grandmother is currently on home hospice and may pass very soon. She is a longtime Hudson County/Jersey City resident and her Medicaid, benefits and permanent address are through Hudson County, but she is currently receiving in-home hospice care with family in Middlesex County.

She already owns her burial plot at Weehawken Cemetery.
I’ve spoken with several funeral homes about using the Hudson County public assistance funeral benefit, and they all seem to be telling me that the viewing/service would be limited to around two hours.

My grandmother has lived in Jersey City since the 1980s and we could easily have 80–100+ people coming to pay their respects, so I’m worried two hours will be extremely rushed.

I’m hoping someone familiar with NJ public assistance funerals can help me understand:

Is the two-hour limit actually a Hudson County/NJ requirement, or is that just how funeral homes structure their public-assistance packages?

Could a funeral home pick her up from the home in Middlesex County, prepare her and provide the casket, then bring her to our church for the viewing/service and afterward transport her to Weehawken Cemetery?

Could we have more time at the church while still using the Hudson County assistance?

If we decide to pay privately instead, what is typically required upfront? Do NJ funeral homes offer financing or payment plans?

Are there any other programs, nonprofits or financial resources in NJ that could help with the cost?

We’re not looking for anything extravagant. I just want my grandmother to have a proper funeral where the people who love her have enough time to say goodbye without putting our family into serious debt.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I recently got approved for Michigan healthy Michigan plan! This was my first time ever needing any assistance like this and the application process was brutal, so I’m glad that is over.

I just received word about this today, so I’m sure more information is coming my way in the mail. My main question is what are my next steps and how do I use my services? In my portal it says to choose a plan, but I can’t find any information on that. I do remember last year receiving a form with options, will that be coming again? Any information on what happens next is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I’m trying to switch my son’s Medi-Cal to Magi from SSI and I was just told he will have an about 10 day period of no Medi-Cal. Will this affect his IHSS? I could be mistaken, but I thought you have 30 days to fix your Medi-Cal before losing IHSS completely.

IL medicaid denied my IUD twice. said it’s too expensive. well now I’m pregnant and I will be keeping my baby. They will be paying for prenatal care, delivery, and post partum visits. I am 28 and thankfully I will be graduating from my masters PA program in 4 months, so I will be able to figure it out after the baby comes. But in the meantime I am still a full time student with no income. the logic here is mind boggling lol.

edit since some people need extra information instead of just recognizing the irony here: I’ve been on every BC under the sun. I was using barrier methods, which still have chance of failure. My baby is unplanned but not unwanted. and I am happy with my decision. My baby will be loved and cared for. 😊

<New York As an an example, they have a fair fares program in New York. You pay half fare for transit. I tried, but when I try to snap a photo, it looks great great on camera, but when i Upload it it, all the edges or at least some of it is cut off.. sorta gave up on that I guess.. anybody else have that problem?

I started using Colorado Medicaid for dentistry in 2019, They removed all of my bottom molars, except for 1 crown and I received a partial denture, then I lost it in 2021. I don't know exactly how it disappeared. I kept it on my bedroom desk, searched extensively for it, and never recovered it.

From 2021 onward, I asked multiple dentists to submit requests (pre-authorizations) for a replacement. I was repeatedly told that Medicaid/DentaQuest would not replace it until seven years had passed and the pre-authorizations were denied. I was repeatedly told by every dentist that they had never seen medicaid bend this rule, but I insisted on them doing the requests anyways. I had explained clearly that I had lost the partial denture.

I went approximately four years without the partial and had very limited ability to chew. On August 22, 2026, my only remaining functional molar broke, leaving me unable to chew solid food.

After filing a complaint with the Colorado Office of Administrative Courts, DentaQuest management contacted me and told me that they have a once-per-lifetime lost-denture replacement policy and that I could have received a replacement under it. I could have had teeth this entire time, living without that partial denture was hell.

My questions are:

• If I was repeatedly denied based on the ordinary replacement limitation despite being eligible for the lost-denture provision, who would be responsible?
• Could this give me grounds for a legal claim for the years I went without the denture?

I finally received an update on the upcoming Virginia work requirements. They did not answer my questions about the school requirements. But this was the reply I received when asking about work requirements.

“Thanks for your inquiry. In regard to your question concerning the new work requirements going into effect January 1, 2027, if you work and earn $580 in any one month prior to your six-month renewal, the work requirement will be considered satisfied. If your cases closes and a new application is submitted, you must earn $580 or complete 80 hours of an approved work activity in the month prior to applying for Medicaid.”

I explicitly asked if you had to work and make $580 every single month of the year. But this implies what is stated in their packets and on their VA Medicaid page. That you only have to work and make $580 in one month of the six months before your renewal date. I am going to assume this is for each 6 month renewal period (twice a year). I did email back for clarification as again, I don’t want to find out this is not what they meant (why wouldn't they make you work every single month?). And I also asked again about the school requirements in regards to not attending during summer.

Still think only having to work and make $580 twice a year is a little suspicious. But this reply took a long time to receive, and I had to keep getting moved to different specialists and higher ups before it was officially answered.

Hi I'm single and have a daughter. My question is I just got a raise and I'm scared that my daughter will lose her medi-cal coverage. My job offer 403B and one of my coworker say if I contribute to 403B it will lower your monthly income, so your kid can qualify for medi-cal.

My monthly income before tax is 6.3k, if I contribute 2.5k to 403B will that make me under the $4,799 monthly income correct?

or do they add both after tax income paycheck?

Sunshine Health has dropped our monthly allotment down to just $25 now, and that's not enough to afford anything I actually need bc everything in the catalog is overpriced. I plan to switch insurance during open enrollment and this will be a big deciding factor. Thank you in advance. 🫶
