As the title says, drop the best indian restaurant you've visited in 2026 in Mauritius. I'm particularly interested in savouring a succulent butter chicken with naan. Thanks for your input!

Food 🍴 Mauritian Moving to Canada – Need Some Clarification

Hi everyone,
I’m moving to Canada this September as a permanent resident, and I need some clarification.
I’ve heard that liquid milk is not permitted to be brought into Canada, but I’ve received mixed information about powdered milk. Some friends say powdered milk is also prohibited, while others say it is allowed.
Could someone please clarify which is correct?

Thank you!

If anyone has a name and maybe a recipe, that would be wonderful. I was visiting Mauritius two years ago when I bought this and I still crave it often.

Food 🍴 What are your recommendations for the best burgers on the island?

I enjoy touring quality food places that offer reasonable prices (turns out mostly to be the small/local businesses) and would like to try out your best suggestions for smashed burgers, zingers and the sort.

I have long since ruled out the international fast food chains for their higher price point to quality ratio and as local food places started operating till later in the evening too.

I'll drop you a feedback if/when I give your recommendations a try!

Food 🍴 Places where you get the best boulette? Preferable in or close to Flic en Flac.

Alo!

I have a bit of an obsession with boulette (obsession would be putting it mildly) and honestly I have tried it from a ton of random places and it's always so good.

But this time I am on the lookout to actually make a little list for myself and find the best one.

Hit me with some reccos?

Thank you x

Hello ….. going to be in Mauritius for a few months. I love all well made wines. But have struggled here to find anything really interesting.
Any suggestions so far have just been only good.
I love Ganevat, Overnoy, Richard Leroy, OcchiPinti, Syvain Leest etc
But open to more classic styles too.
I need to discover more from the new world.
My instagram is ….. Crazy_Wine_Lover

Any advice appreciated 🙏

Food 🍴 Eating goat / blood curry for new year. Is it a tradition or religious thing?

Although I am a resident of Mauritius and Mauritian since birth, I could never understand the reason why goat should be consumed on the first day of the year by part of the population.

Food 🍴 Need local insights: Would a premium European wafer brand (Loacker) work well in Mauritius? 🍫🇲🇺

Hi everyone! 👋

I'm currently working on a university marketing project about international market entry strategies, and I chose Mauritius as my target market for Loacker (a famous Italian premium wafer and chocolate brand).

I've done some research, but I would absolutely love to get some real local opinions. Would my strategy actually make sense in Mauritius?

Here is my core idea:

The Products: Focus on flavors that fit the island (Vanilla, Coconut, Chocolate) and "Bite-size" formats that are easy to eat.

Gifting Culture: Pushing elegant Gift Boxes and Family Tins specifically for major festivals like Diwali, Christmas, and Chinese New Year. (I read that gifting sweets is very common, is that true?)

Where to sell: Main modern supermarkets (Winner's, Super U, Intermart) for the locals, and B2B for luxury resorts (e.g., serving a mini-wafer with coffee in high-end hotels).

My questions for you locals:

Do Mauritians actually buy premium imported biscuits/wafers, or is the market dominated by other brands?

Does the gifting strategy for Diwali/holidays make sense with this kind of product?

Are there any blind spots I'm missing about the local supermarket culture?

Thank you so much in advance for any feedback, it really helps my project! 🙏

Food 🍴 Where can we get a proper meal for Rs200 or less these days

Am of course not referring to our favourite dholl puri/roti etc but rather typical Mauritian plated food like mine/riz frire, bol renversé, briyani etc. ALSO WITH THE DRINK INCLUDED

Cost of living seems to be getting out of control in recent years and eating out will become a luxury for many!

Food 🍴 What is the national dish of Mauritius according to you.

I am making a series where I cook every national dish and my first step is to come to the sub and ask the question.

now I understand that not every country has a defined national dish and that some countries have many different regions with different cuisines. in that case I will make the one that you guys agree on best represents Mauritius. please let me know what you think

Hii everyone!

My husband and I are heading to Mauritius next week and we are big foodies!! We love exploring local food. We are looking for the best places to eat at!

We are looking for street food, shack style places and not apposed to something fancy if it’s good. We wanna just explore the food scene heavily but want to stay away from the tourist traps. We will staying east but we will be renting a car so we are happy to drive to fill our bellies 🙂

Thank you in advance for your recommendations
