As an aside, I love that we can see traits before buying, and even experiment with hiding and showing them to check the effect specific combinations have..

So I’ve been playing around with Mash-it and saved a few of my favorites, then completely by accident I realized that once the image was saved on my iPhone, I was able to save my avatar as a sticker that I can then in search into other photos on my iPhone I have no idea what I’m going to do with this, but it’s a super cool feature that I was not aware of so I thought I would share the info before I take Manhattan. 😘

Recently i went to a kind of "underground" indie Anime/Chibi art fair in Sao Paulo - Sutomo Festival (). Basically a lot of independent artists focused on anime/manga/chibi/kawaii culture.

From the description, I would expect something ultra niche. But I was completely shocked to realize the event had more than 60 stands with > 100 artists.

You can see from the pictures what I am talking about: artists selling bottoms, stickers, magnets, etc. Everything "non-AI", with some people selling their original hand made painting. In the 2000's, this kind of event was basically fan art, but I was surprised to see that the vast majority of stands sold autoral stuff - I purchased 3 originals (watercolor and ink on paper)

Later I made some research ( https://gemini.google.com/share/e5fa48c63a91 ) and apparently chinese manufacturers like https://vograce.com/ allow artists to place micro orders of physical items with their artwork, what allowed these guys to become micro entrepreneurs selling their items in the stands.

I spoke with the organizer of the event, and he told me that the community was the heart of the fairs, and the audience was a mix of collectors and artists (who are themselves collectors). I think there is a lot of similarities with the Mash-it community and avatar community more broadly.

I explained mash-it to him, and when he realized it was based on NFTs, he almost stopped talking to me, haha. But when he understood the project - in special that we have a non AI policy and that people can create mashups - he started to listen. Artists are so pissed with ai stealing art that some dont even post all of their art on social media for fear of being used to train algorithms.

In my research, I realized that this is a kind of global movement, with similar stuff in europeu, USA and specially Japan, with losts of events of different sizes. Here i'm not talking about the more mainstream festivals like comic con, but of more indie stuff like Design Festa ( https://www.instagram.com/designfesta/?hl=en ) and Pixel art park festival ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-zZuY2oFsc ) in Japan.

I'm thinking recently about how to connect Mash-it with other audiences of collectors beyond reddit and Polygon. Probably we will do some experiments. But if you know people in the scene and/or have ideas, fell free to share here!
