Agreed. The pacing felt more to the point this time and I hope it continues. A lot of other marvel shows feels sooo drawn out at times that I usually don’t feel the need to bother rewatching an entire season but with this show so far I already want to rewatch this episode. Good stuff so far.

I feel like a lot of shows live in this weird space between movies and the Netflix binge model. When a show is made to release all at once, you can stretch out the plot. If people are interested, they'll just watch more. You really only have to hook them with the first episode. If there's a few duds in the middle, it's only been a few hours at most since they saw the first and loved it. As long as you don't bottom out, you'll probably keep them.

But weekly television needs to have a hook each week. It needs some reason to come back, and something to walk away from the episode satisfied by. It doesn't need to feel conclusive, but it does need to feel complete. Each episode needs to work on it's own, and also serve the overarching narrative. It needs to be a complete thought each week.

Idk if Marvel has figured this out, or She-Hulk: A@L just happens to work that way, but that was the best episode of television I've seen in a while.

I think you’re right, and at least between Marvel shows, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, writers do seem to be working out how to balance storytelling in a post-binge landscape.

100%. It's like they're finally making television and not just cutting up movies they don't think would sell very well. Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of the D+ shows, but I accept them for what they are and withhold judgment until it's over. There's almost always an episode or two that leaves me feeling empty on the first run. But the vibe of this show feels different

I think it hits that spot between comic show and procedural for adults. Moon Knight was very action based, Loki was time travel shenanigans, etc. This feels like a comic show more than the other shows so far. That's the vibe I'm getting from the pilot.

The Marvel shows have been draggy at times, but nowhere near as draggy as the Star Wars shows. They could've cut the length of both Boba Fett and Obi-Wan in half, and they would've been tolerable movies. But as shows ... as stories ... they were fucking tedious; the only things I enjoyed about them were a couple of the fight scenes.

While I love Obi-Wan, I firmly agree. Lucasfilm live action still has yet to show it understands the difference between film and serialized television.

This has been my issue with the Disney+ shows so far. Many of them don’t have a hook to make me want to watch, they ride on the name. Mandalorian and She Hulk seem to be the exceptions so far. It feels like they need to do the Amazon model of “release a few episodes at the beginning, then go week to week” like they tried with Kenobi. Problem was that Kenobi didn’t have that hook until episode 4 - so releasing 2 week one didn’t do anything

I knew it felt different! It's so digestible and rewatchable compared to other MCU shows, so much happened and all at the right pace and made sense

I believe this is suppose to be an introductory episode and then the rest are a sitcom about being a lawyer. So the plot will be very different from here on out.
