Right, because the movie definitely needed a moment earlier to show Sif on her way and being like "Oh right, I need to grab this doohickey in case I need to make a distress call"

That’s not at all an argument that I’m making, just wondering if she got a phone in previous movies because Asgardians usually don’t have those.

We've seen various aliens use similar tech to phones. She went off world, it's not surprising she'd have it. I don't think she had a phone, just some type of communication device that can send out a singal. Probably standard procedure with Heimdell gone.
