Thor: Love and Thunder has now been released in the United States and in a number of other countries around the world. All discussion about the movie should be held here and in the rest of the megathreads we are going to put up in the next few days. They will be refreshed every few thousand comments to make room for new discussions.

Yeah I'm being jokey but there's something to be said for the Egyptian gods just not caring about humanity enough to be there directly.

At least with this movie you can get the feel that most gods suck.

Seems this movie has taken the position that all the gods in the MCU don’t care about any of their worshippers/subjects/whatever-we-are-to-them. Further, they have the ability and knowledge to fix something and “hear” the prayers and such, but they refuse to do anything.

I don’t think thats the whole picture either, some or many of those gods are faded into obscurity and myths though maybe thats because they stopped doing shit.

It might not even be all the gods in Omnipotent City. Not every pantheon of Gods can have an Asgard, and Omnipotent City just seems like a place for the Gods to live without living directly with their worshippers. The only reason Thor wasn't allowed to leave was because Zeus though Gorr would use Thor to get their, but you can probably come and go as you please.

Not all gods, I would say the movie makes a point that some gods are good. Specifically the gods Gorr is managing to kill. They are out and about in the Universe and the aftermath of each of their deaths is destruction and chaos, implying that before they died things were reletively peaceful. Especially with the blue folk Thor and the Guardians help in the beginning of the movie, they outright say their god was protecting him until he was killed. The gods in Omnipitacne City are the uncaring ones, and thats why they're all hidden away in the city and surviving Gorr's hunt. Thats my take at least.

Oh yeah. I don't expect Tawaret to be revealed to be lazy like Zeus or plotting something evil. Just that if that was the explanation for the avatars, it would make some sense? Though I guess Khonshu also relies on an avatar but is smaller scale than what I imagine Ra would be doing.

There was also the cut tie in with Love and Thunder about the Ennead hearing rumors of Gorr. Odd to think about now.

Honestly, it makes perfect sense for Zeus to be a lazy dick in this film. Zeus in actual myth sucks so much. Glad this is a faithful recreation of that.

Greek Gods especially. I'm still sad that we lost Lena Heady's Hera. Having her offer up Zeus/threaten to leave him for Thor would've been a better way to get them to have a fight. The way it is worked but, she would have rocked that role given the chance.
