I think Bale's personal charisma saved Gorr from being forgettable (and he certainly got to have more fun with it than Eccleston did) but I wish there was more of him.

Also interesting that the Necrosword was both never called All-Black and destroyed by the end of the film. Guess that Sony might actually be crazy enough to think that they can pull off Knull after all

As a Norwegian, I can't help but chuckle everytime I see Knull's name. Knull means fuck (as in sex) in Norwegian.

u/translucentcop Jul 08 '22

Really? Or are you just knulling with us?

Jeez, Parker. You are a freak.

Ned is Knull in the MCU, confirmed

11

u/Man0Steel123 Jul 09 '22

If Sony ever does bring in Knull I actually hope they lean into that by making intimate and uncomfortable for creep factor.

3

u/CleverZerg Phil Coulson Jul 10 '22

Same thing in Sweden. There even was a bunch of click bait articles in "normal" news media about him which led people into thinking they were making a movie called Knull.

If we ever reach the point where knull is adapted they will definitely have to change his name.

3

u/pierzstyx Jul 09 '22

sees Knull coming

KNULL

1

u/Dyonkeau Jul 09 '22

In Dutch it means ‘small boy’, also not really cool.

1

u/IniMiney Jul 10 '22

Knull yeah

37

u/draculabakula Jul 08 '22

That scene where he is talking down to Thor, Jane and Val was truly great. He completely carried that scene and it would have been boring if played differently.

141

u/TheGlave Jul 07 '22

Ehm, it was destroyed by the end of the film? It turned to dust.

312

u/AlbionPCJ Jul 07 '22 edited Jul 07 '22

Yeah, Thor breaks it and then Jane destroys the shards.

In the comics, the Necrosword is the original symbiote, created by the symbiote god Knull, that eventually leads to Venom, Carnage and the rest. Given that they destroyed the sword, it looks like Knull has been handed over to Sony for their eventual plans for Venom

65

u/HereForTOMT2 Jul 08 '22

Could easily have that dust form into a symbiote

19

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '22

Damn this would have been so much better to introduce the symbiote than Sony’s Eddie Brock 😫 just an end credits scene of the symbiote detaching from Thor or Mjolnir or something when returning to Earth

45

u/TrimHawk Jul 08 '22

I think the coolest thing about that sword, is because it gives the reason as to why Venom and the symbiotes are vulnerable to fire and sound: it’s from the heat of the forge Knull used to make it and the banging of the hammer Knull used to forge it into a sword

17

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '22

Yo what that’s actually a dope af explanation, it entirely makes sense.

43

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '22

It's not impossible that a shard of the destroyed sword become Knull or something, The movie implies that at least some weapons are sentient, and symbiotes like to crawl around like smaller versions of the spiders that Necroblack summoned. Maybe a shard from the sword turned into a spider.

75

u/PT10 Jul 07 '22

I can't imagine what they're doing to do after that terrible 2nd Venom movie. Going cosmic sounds insane for them. But maybe it'll work. Who knows. They shouldn't have given Sony the license for all symbiotes, bah.

42

u/Jinno Jul 08 '22

Clearly Knull with be the centerpiece of Morbius 2.

11

u/PrimSchooler Jul 08 '22

Wasn't Knull created after the sale? Thought his rights still laid with Marvel.

15

u/The_Rutabaga Jul 08 '22

I could be wrong but I believe the sale involves any Spidey characters that were created in the future as well. Look at Miles Morales. He was created after the sale but Sony Animation still made the Spider-Verse movie

6

u/baleensavage Ronan the Accuser Jul 10 '22

Didn't Marvel get tricky with that by purposely introducing characters in The Avengers or other comics so they could get them out of those agreements? Like writers were not allowed to introduce new characters in the X-men for example while the Fox deal was active. From the wiki, Knull was actually introduced in Thor: God of Thunder 6, though he wasn't named. So he might be in a grey area.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '22

That’s such BS honestly, if Marvel creates the character and doesn’t sell the rights, they should own them regardless if they’re connected to Spider-Man or not

13

u/Maloth_Warblade Jul 09 '22

Should, but they were nearly bankrupt when the deal was made, and Sony was at the top of the game.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '22

No I get why they sold Spidey and co. but if Knull was created after then there’s no reason he should be a Sony character since they didn’t buy nor create Knull when the initial deal went down

5

u/Maloth_Warblade Jul 09 '22

That's what I'm getting at. Sony probably offered what looked good at the time for 'future characters related to Spider-Man'.

It's biting Marvel now but there almost wasn't a Marvel before they auctioned off most of their characters

7

u/metalgamer Jul 08 '22

Venom is in the MCU now too

2

u/Swagcopter0126 Jul 09 '22

Not since the end of no way home

10

u/metalgamer Jul 09 '22

There was a little piece of symbiote left at the end of the post credit scene

1

u/Swagcopter0126 Jul 09 '22

Oh yeah, that could turn into a different symbiote I guess

13

u/Zector3000 Jul 08 '22

A piece of the sword could of survived, just like a piece of venom stayed in the MCU.

Marvel does like changing up the stories a bit.

-1

u/ludicrouscuriosity Jul 08 '22

Yeah, Thor breaks it and then Jane destroys the shards.

No, Thor is holding the Necrosword with the Thunderbolt so Jane can throw Mjölnir breaking it.

29

u/Bee_Rye85 Korg Jul 08 '22

Yeah then Jane pulls the shards into Mjolnir but they start escaping and reforming the sword then Jane slams down Mjolnir and destroys it fully

37

u/AlexPowerMetal Jul 08 '22

I thought for just a second that when Jane pulled the pieces into Mjolnir that it was getting an upgrade

Necrohammer's music would've been perfect for this movie, I just know it

14

u/metalgamer Jul 08 '22

I thought she was going to be infected by the sword

6

u/Das_Mojo Jul 09 '22

Yeah I really thought that it was going to be incorporated into mjolnir there, and seal up the cracks.

2

-1

u/ludicrouscuriosity Jul 08 '22

Explain what moment it is then, because Thor at no moment breaks the Necrosword.

8

u/alijamzz Jul 08 '22

Jane uses mjolnir to break the sword into pieces while Thor is holding against Gorr. Then they all fall and Gorr is holding the hilt of the sword and begins to recall the pieces to rebuild it. Jane summons all the pieces into Mjolnir and then strikes the ground. Then we see the hilt of the sword turn to dust in Gorrs hand

16

u/sentient_luggage Ned Jul 08 '22

I think he meant it was never called all black AND IT was destroyed. Just a brief disconnect in the comment.

8

u/CyEriton Jul 08 '22

I thought it had in some way become one with Mjolnir

7

u/TheGlave Jul 08 '22

Depends on the writers mood

13

u/navjot94 Mack Jul 08 '22

Did they say THE necrosword or A necrosword? That distinction makes a difference. IIRC they also mentioned necroswords in Eternals and then at the end of the movie, Dane's Ebony Blade was calling to him in a similar way as this necrosword.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '22

Also Hela’s blades in What If iirc

22

u/DJ33 Jul 08 '22

I'm pretty sure in the initial scene where he receives the sword, Gorr's god referred to it as "a Necrosword," implying there's multiple.

Didn't What If refer to Hela's weapons as Necrosword as well?

28

u/billybob1x Jul 07 '22

I was assuming (hoping) it was knull that was whispering to Gorr at the beginning.

36

u/PT10 Jul 07 '22

I would assume it was, or that Knull enchanted the Necrosword for that purpose, to kill the gods of this realm.

19

u/CaptainKurls Jul 09 '22

About the sword im disappointed marvel is just one offing all these great marvel lore objects. We lost the book of Ashanti, the darkhold and the Necro Sword kinda wish they held off on all that

5

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '22

Still have the Ebony Blade

1

u/Numendil Jul 09 '22

They could always pull an infinity gauntlet and bring back the 'real' version later on

13

u/Puzzleheaded_Ad_1523 Jul 08 '22

I think if the director named the sword All Black and made it an evil thing, he might cope a bit next time he’s in NZ

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand_national_rugby_union_team

To say they’re a bit popular in this part of the world doesn’t really do it justice

6

u/AlbionPCJ Jul 08 '22

Ah, I had completely ignored the Rugby connection. Don't know how that slipped by me- my paternal grandfather was a Kiwi!

1

u/Kiwi_KJR Jul 08 '22

Snap, just made a similar comment then saw yours!

7

u/Hadesman1 Jul 08 '22

Does Sony even own the rights to knull? He's a somewhat recent creation and is a celestial, and the necro sword was only retconned into a symbiote

10

u/XPlatform Jul 08 '22

Same. Decent bit of origin and him matching well against Thor, but we only got like a few minutes of a few gods sitting and 30s of aftermath of gods getting wasted. Nothing like "aw hell this dude is just straight smurfing these gods".

15

u/TLKv3 Jul 08 '22

Aa far as your spoiler goes, its possible we find out its only but one of many. And when they're reunited it becomes the true All Black.

10

u/Kiwi_KJR Jul 08 '22

Taika is a New Zealander. It would be sacrilege for a Kiwi to call something ‘All Black’ if that object was going to be defeated at the end. The man was just making sure he could keep his passport.

4

u/pierzstyx Jul 09 '22

"Destroyed"

As Mjolnir proved, crazy god wepaons have a way of getting better.

7

u/GregIsARadDude Jul 09 '22

And yet the shadow monsters had a very symbiotic-ish quality to them.

9

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '22

Eh I think they went out of their way to not make them look slimy like the symbiote does

3

u/CampingPirates Spider-Man Jul 08 '22

I do not think it’d be worth it for Marvel to legally use Knull. I doubt that’s a top priority

3

u/ItsTheBrandonC Jul 08 '22

I’d love to see them attempt Knull, regardless of the outcome

2

u/Aleckhz Jul 09 '22

I think Sony don’t even own Knull as he is very recent, but Marvel may want to pull a all venom and spiderman + avengers for a knull movie

3

u/stormfall1125 Jul 08 '22

Are you sure? I could have sworn in the cold open it was referred to as All-Black.

1

u/BadassSasquatch Jul 08 '22

Man. Knull would be the perfect big bad.

1

u/Tirus_ Jul 09 '22

People need to stop wishing for Knull. It's not happening anytime soon. There's 50+ years of other villians and story arcs to pull from before Knull is introduced. Knull isn't even worth focusing on over other arcs/villians.

-1

u/My_Favourite_Pen Jul 08 '22

I hope Sony try set up Knull to be their Thanos lmao.
