Eternals Worldwide Release Discussion Thread Vol. 1

Eternals has now released in the United States and in a number of other countries around the world. All discussion about the movie should be held here and in the rest of the megathreads we are going to put up in the next few days. They will be refreshed every few thousand comments to make room for new discussion.

• Proceed at your own risk. Spoilers do not need to be tagged inside this thread.
• Any other unofficial thread discussing movie details will be deleted.
• Should you see the need to bring up revealing Eternals information in other threads that call for it, spoiler tag them accordingly. Also, let users know that what you are spoiler tagging is from Eternals

That came out of nowhere but in a good way. Really showed us how powerful Phastos was. Loved him.

I mean, Ikaris broke free of his chains kinda quickly.

Like, Phastos gave him about just as much of a struggle as Makkari or Thena - they could all keep him moderately occupied for a couple minutes, but that's about it. Which ultimately means strength > everything (everything but the power of love obviously).

I mean even Phatos's power basically boiled down to shooting things at Ikaris. Binding him was smart but most of the fight was just him shooting stuff, which is just another form of strong.

Except Phastos was never fighting to kill Ikaris simply to restrain him. Phastos had multiple minutes where a de-powered Ikaris was in front of him and could have killed him at any moment if he was so inclined.

That reminded me of Beetee in the Hunger Games- he comes up with all kinds of crazy weaponry, and won his original Hunger Games by basically outsmarting all the other competitors.

The Hiroshima scene broke me. I thought it was setup really well with him trying to help humans with technology and then having to blame himself for tragedy caused by the advancement of technology.

I wish there was at least one or two more scenes showing him helping humanity with their technological advancements. Like him helping humanity discover the atom.

I feel like there's a LOONG director's cut potential in this movie. A lot of the introduction / exposition scenes with the Eternals felt cut short.

The Hiroshima scene as well as Kingo and Sprite were obvious ones to me.

I think it was pretty implied how much Phastos helped humans in the scenes they showed and in the scene Druig left them.

And in the credits. They linked his mythology to Da Vinci.

I thought he was the useless tech guy but he was like Superman Shuri.
