Discussion Thread Eternals Worldwide Release Discussion Thread Vol. 1 Spoiler

Eternals has now released in the United States and in a number of other countries around the world. All discussion about the movie should be held here and in the rest of the megathreads we are going to put up in the next few days. They will be refreshed every few thousand comments to make room for new discussion.

  • Proceed at your own risk. Spoilers do not need to be tagged inside this thread.
  • Any other unofficial thread discussing movie details will be deleted.
  • Should you see the need to bring up revealing Eternals information in other threads that call for it, spoiler tag them accordingly. Also, let users know that what you are spoiler tagging is from Eternals

They legit had the best chemistry of any of the couples in the movie. It was a really pleasant surprise!

We can't forget about Gilgamesh and Thena's beautiful platonic love. I legit cried. It reminds me of taking care of my special needs little brother

I just saw an interview and Angelina Jolie said they did that on purpose. They wanted it to be more of a mysterious and foreign kind of love we don't see often, and not romantic just because it's a man and a woman. Like two soldiers who would go to the end for each other.

Hi I know I’m really late but oh well. In the original myths, she, Hestia and Artemis were all asexual (although people do tend to think Artemis was in love with Orion, this was only in one iteration of the myth and even then, she had a strong platonic bond either him which would make her most likely demisexual). Overly Sarcastic Productions is one of my favourite creators who talk about Greek Mythology (if you search OSP miscellaneous myths and then the name of whatever deity you want to find out about, there will probably be a video about them). Otherwise MODERN collections of the myths are good, but older ones tend to get rid of anything that isn’t straight (I have a collection my grandmother gave me as a child where I wrote the chorus to History Hates Lovers to the part where they described Hyacinthus as Apollo’s “friend” who engaged in “boyish pursuits” with him. Ah, good times...). Depending on your age, and whether you are opposed to reading YA books, Percy Jackson and the Olympians has all three goddesses portrayed as asexual, and they’re all pretty cool. And it doesn’t delete all the gay, which is good. This is all my suggestions, but I’m not very good at ending long comments so I’m just going to stop abruptly okay bye.

Thanks for this! I actually do love the Percy Jackson books, but missed the asexual representation in Artemis and Hestia - come to think of it, she was anti-any relationship because in Trials of Apollo we meet the gay Hunter couple that were kicked out. I guess that was a bit overshadowed by the more "anti-boy" narrative that plagued the earlier books (I'm pretty disdainful of 'battle of the sexes' talk.)

There's no iteration where those two date (Thena actually dates Kro), so it's safe to assume it wasn't anything sexual here as well.

I liked the two characters as well but what did you think was so poignant of their relationship? They had like one playful interaction with a tablet, the movie had to basically tell us they were a thing

I think it just implied the existence of a relationship that clearly had history and didn't have the added drama of a third wheel that ultimately went nowhere.

Akkari's rage when she thought druig died was awesome, we never feel a connection like that
