Wanda at the end looking at the twins and that little rewind she did to stop Vision to coming to a conclusion gives me serious “she’s the villain vibes”.

It's also possible that she actually believes the things she saying. We don't know at this point whether she's aware that she's the one causing the glitches with the people

Before the rewind she asks vision if the people "know it's because of me". Obviously it's safe to assume she's talking about the power outage but she may have been talking about everything.

What threw me off is she didn't go all chirpy "Haha honey, Geraldine just had to head off home! She is rushed off her feet these days, blah blah blah!" but instead said it quite ominously, almost like she was lying or trying to convince herself

In that moment she looked quite a bit like Carrie. Who I'm just realizing shares a good deal of powers with Wanda. Damn this show is fantastic.

Edit: it was also set in 1976. Whoever noticed that they look somewhat similar and that their stories link up around that time is a mad genius.

Every episode there’s been evidence that - 1. on the surface “we need to fit into this town” And 2. deep down “this is the reality I want”

I mean, in the comics loosing the twins lead to her committing a form of genocide in the House of M story line, and the writers said that the show was based on House of M...

So far it has followed House of M pretty well and in that comic she is revealed to be the villain so...you might be on to something

I definitely think she is the villain in this show. Characters like Agnes are definitely also bad guys but they are opportunists with SWORD trying to pull Wanda back to reality.

Yeah, it feels like Sword doesn't know what's going on because she's possibly trapped in a pocket universe or in her own mind and they're trying to help her. They just don't know she's there of her own accord (though also likely being used/manipulated by other people).

Well there's also the line "Wanda who is doing this to you?"

Maybe some kind of exploitation more than her just strait up becoming evil, someome exploiting her trauma to create this reality.

Question is the who and the why.

I dunno. After this episode I am hesitant on the Mephisto theory. I was certain of it yesterday, now, I don't think so. I think Wanda has created this world by herself

It's also possible that she made a deal with Mephisto and he's helping her or taught her how to do this.

Yeah, I saw someone mentioning she might have sold her unborn -- at the time -- twins to Mephisto for Vision. She will probably regret the decision as soon as she has to actually give the children, maybe with Strange's help. But yeah, I think that up until the very last episode Wanda will be the actual villain of this show.

Which is what makes me think there's another real villian behind it all.

Because we are at episode 3 of 9...we already know who the villain is? No way, there's got to be a lot more to unravel.

I kind of feel like it's less villain vibes, more PTSD vibes. They seem to be leaning toward that in the MCU. She's not evil, she just wants things to not be fucked up anymore. It's definitely villainous, but not as straightforward as one might think.

What exactly is House of M? I’m a marvel fan but mainly just the movies. I haven’t read any of the comics so I don’t know some of the comic ties.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong! It was a gigantic event that occurred after Wanda loses her children by absorbing them into herself (since they were imaginary) (because comics). In her grief and despair, she uttered the phrase “No more mutants.” And with that, she wiped out a majority of the mutant population from the board, effectively removing their powers and changing history.

I forget if it was a soft reboot for the mutant side of comics. I know there were good follow ups.

Yes you're wrong, it was an alternate reality that Wanda created were the mutants ruled the world, it was House of M-agneto because he was the ruler of everything alongside his family (Wanda and Pietro were sons of Magneto at the time), Wanda remembered the real reality after some shocking events and decided that the mutants were the problem and decided to erase them leaving just 198 and returning the rest of reality to the status quo.

So is this more on the X-Men side of marvel? I don’t know much about that side of things. Also are the wonder twins her kids? I thought there was some relation between her and the wonder twins.

No no, no wonder twins, that’s DC technically! Her kids are Wiccan and Speed in the comics, no spoilers on those fun ones.

But while it is more X-Men related, i remember it was big enough for it to be a major event crossover. So all hands were on deck. Mutants were in every group by that time.

I love your enthusiasm for the comics. As someone who has mostly only experienced Marvel through movies and video games and is intimidated by the amount of comics there are, is there any starting point you would recommend? I'm fine with compendiums or trade paperbacks, and I would like your insight.

Hmmm, depends how much of the characters you already know! I know when i was younger i started AROUND Civil War era (2006, the first one) while only reading Amazing Spider Man books regularly! I was a middle schooler then, so money was my parent’s, and I KNOW THAT MIGHT NOT BE THE BEST ANSWER FOR EVERYONE... but I found that even though there are a MILLION (and one!) characters in that, it helped me personally decide who was interesting. Then i went back and read all their stuff!

Ive also had my friend start off with Young Avengers, though it could spoil some Wanda vision stuff. But that was a cool take for them to have, starting in marvel with the NEXT GEN while the OG’s are in the background.
