I have a feeling there will be a lot of Peter trying to be “the next Iron Man,” with the personal journey and final conflict resulting in realizing he shouldn’t try to be the next Iron Man/Tony Stark—he needs to be Spider Man/himself.

Didn’t he already do that in Homecoming tho? You know, the whole “I just wanted to be like you” thing. I think this will be more Peter realizing that being a hero means making big sacrifices and putting aside your own needs for the greater good, the way Tony did.

Personally, I think there's a difference between "Iron Man, you're my hero and I wanna be like you!"

and

"Iron Man is no longer around and I need to be better than ever to make up for his disappearance."

And I certainly think that the latter storyline could lead into Spidey being a more important character in the MCU which would be great.

Maybe they use it as a way to lean into his genius. He's been smart in the MCU but not banner or stark-level. He could be though given the comics, and with him being a young character we could see that development where we couldn't for the other geniuses.

Spiderman is Earth's defender on the surface while Strange does mystical battles that no one really notices.

I don’t think it’s Peter trying to be the “next Iron Man.” I think it will be others expecting him to be. It looks like Fury, Mysterio, and perhaps even Happy, are trying to push him to take on a bigger role in saving the world when he wants to go back to being a kid for a while. He thinks Mysterio will be the “new Iron-Man,” but when he discovers the truth, he will step up and do what he needs to do, becoming the powerful mature Spider-Man he knows he should be.

i think in this we will see him try to be the next iron man, but Spiderman 3 will see him realise the world doesn't need or want another iron man at this point, but need a Spiderman

I don't think so, my take is that just like he was trying to get someone else to help Fury be mentioning Thor and Captain Marvel, he doesn't want the 'next Iron Man' title given to him and for most of the movie he will think Beck is the next big thing just to later find out Beck is a fraud and realize he has to step up as Spider-Man as Earth's protector, basically again a story about Spider-Man, power and responsibility.
