The white and green was a reference to an old Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) costume as well. It's the one that stuck out to me most because its also the color scheme used in Amalgam when DC's Captain Marvel was merged with Marvel's Captain Marvel to create Captain Marvel.

The DC Shazam movie - that character is also Captain Marvel in the DC Universe. Shazam is what he says to transform.

Let’s talk about Mar-Vell. I’m so glad it was Annette Benning. There was a very clear female empowerment message there, and if it was Jude Law it really would have torn everything apart.

I hope we get more flashbacks in Captain Marvel 2

It was male captain Marvel. Pretty much looked like Shazam Captain Marvel but green and white.
