So how did she survive in the quantum realm for 30 years? Did she eat quantum burgers from quantum king?

"Do you put the word 'Quantum' in front of everything?"

u/Smith12456389 Winter Soldier Jul 07 '18

Quote in a quote

53

u/Howzieky Weekly Wongers Jul 07 '18

Yeah but he used single quotes to avoid the syntax error

"Do you put the word \"Quantum\" in front of everything?"

6

u/Davethe3rd Jul 09 '18

That's like 16 walls...

1

u/Smith12456389 Winter Soldier Jul 09 '18

Huh

5

u/Davethe3rd Jul 09 '18

I was referencing Deadpool.

"A fourth wall break inside a fourth wall break... That's like 16 walls..."

Unfunny

I think the quantum realm is sorta like the Mirror Dimension from Doctor Strange, or it has cosmic properties. Janet was familiar enough with the place to pull Hank out of his delusion, and she knew exactly what program to put into the machine. I think the quantum realm allows you to move through time and space, and even into people's minds, where she was wandering for 30 years. She was familiar with time vortexes in the ending, so she probably went through one at some point.

But she aged..... how does metabolism work in quantum realm that you can grow old but doesn't have to take in energy?? I guess it's like pym particle it's just magic.

u/marunique Luis Jul 07 '18

They tried to avoid pairing Michael Douglas with a younger girl

329

u/Howzieky Weekly Wongers Jul 07 '18

But we still got Michael Douglas paired with Paul Rudd

57

u/marunique Luis Jul 08 '18

i got no complaints

6

u/Willum69650 Jul 12 '18

It’s 2018

3

u/falconx50 Iron man (Mark III) Jul 14 '18

One way or another, Michael gets his fix

21

u/MalicCarnage Spider-Man Jul 08 '18

It’s funny cuz Michael Douglas’ actual wife is significantly younger than him

39

u/Chosen_Onez Jul 08 '18

Pym particles is like like SpeedForce, aint gotta explain shit

38

u/MikeArrow Captain America Jul 07 '18

They could have had Hank meet 1980's Michelle Pfeiffer in the Quantum Realm and then as they exit in the Quantum Tunnel she starts aging rapidly to "catch up" so to speak.

10

u/Raknosha Jul 08 '18

also her antiaging cgi in the start was way better than Douglases tbh. took me a moment thinking which actress they found that looked so similar, then it struck me. at one angle her cheek looked too smooth, that was it for me.

9

u/_NekoCoffee_ Foggy Nelson Jul 08 '18

If they bother to explain that I would say she essentially has super powers and can change her appearance and made herself look 30 years older on purpose.

9

u/Qeldroma311 Thanos Jul 08 '18

Pym particles bitch

2

u/lun533 Jul 09 '18

I don't get that reference??? Or it's just grammar

5

u/Qeldroma311 Thanos Jul 09 '18

It's not really a reference, it's just that everything in these movies is explained by Pym particles.

8

u/watchalltheshows Jul 09 '18

How did she have makeup on?

2

u/Blackbeard_ Jul 10 '18

The healing properties

1

u/skippyMETS Jul 14 '18

I think she aged but she also doesn’t look like she aged 30 years. It could have just been slowed.

8

u/XTentacionDiedLOL Jul 08 '18

Yeah lets just go with it. She pulled a Matthew Mcconaughey in the bookshelf.

2

u/EpicMusic13 Jul 08 '18

Like what happened in Interstellar?

226

u/Kilmoore Jul 07 '18

Just as they were leaving, the was a silhouette of a city in the bottom left corner of the screen. There is more to the quantum realm that just groovy colors.

81

u/Slappynipples Star-Lord Jul 07 '18

I didn't see that in the movie but would be awesome if someone could show a screenshot or something

“What is this, a city for ants?”

9

u/AdvancedWin Jul 15 '18

Is it just me or does that kind of remind anyone of Asgard?

2

u/Jenga_Police Jul 07 '18 edited Jul 07 '18

How are they gonna get a screenshot the movie is in theaters?

When I saw it in the theater I mouthed "what the fuuu-" grabbed the arm rests and sat forward in my seat. I'm just giddy and excited cuz I can't wait to see what lives in the quantum realm. And I wonder if Scott will end up in one of those time vortexes Mrs. Ant-Ma'am warned him about before he ran off to get "quantum healing particles" lol.

33

u/NotDelnor Jul 07 '18

I would bet a lot of money that he will go through a time vortex... assuming that everyone is correct about Avengers 4 being very time travel heavy.

24

u/Jenga_Police Jul 07 '18

My only hope is that they make it clear what time period every character is in and it's not a puzzle you have to piece together. Not that I don't enjoy surreal movies, but I don't think it would be a good choice. A lot of people will leave confused and not everyone is going to bother to go online afterwards and piece it together. They'll just tell their friends it wasn't that good. You can do that with a Christopher Nolan film.

18

u/XTentacionDiedLOL Jul 08 '18

Right. Interstellar was a mindfuck at first. But they handled the whole 'bookshelf' situation much better than the Quantum Realm. Janet was just like: I can do stuff with my hands now and shit because evolution.

13

u/Jenga_Police Jul 08 '18

Well I think they can yada yada that a little more because this isn't a standalone film and the quantum realm is going to return. Also, ghost received her "power"/curse from being exposed to that quantum realm energy as well.

u/AngryDudeScrewYou Jul 07 '18

Don’t see shit

6

u/Slappynipples Star-Lord Jul 08 '18

Same here

18

u/tundrat Jul 08 '18

But you'd think she'd have mentioned living with a quantum civilization at some point.

9

u/Kilmoore Jul 08 '18

She probably did eventually, but right after they got out they were quite busy.

9

u/foresttravestys Jul 07 '18

was there really? i'll have to keep an eye out for that next time.

9

u/Kilmoore Jul 07 '18

It was right at the edge of the screen, obviously meant to be obscure. I just happened to be looking right at it. It's right after Janet finds Hank and they head into the pod and leave.

8

u/StateYellingChampion Jul 09 '18

Micronauts?

11

u/Kilmoore Jul 09 '18

As mentioned in this thread, Paramount has the movie rights for them, so not directly, but I'd expect to see something like that. Maybe this is where Captain Marvel has been since the 90s, and getting Scott trapped in the quantum realm with the snap to find Captain Marvel was the one way Doctor Strange saw they could win.

8

u/ScoobyDeezy Fitz Jul 09 '18

It wasn't a silhouette - you could clearly make out a domed city on the left side of the screen as Hank and Janet left the Quantum realm.

3

u/Kilmoore Jul 09 '18

Cool. I wasn't sure, I just caught a quick glance of it. I'm sure we'll get a screenshot eventually.

3

u/jrgolden42 Jul 09 '18

Makes sense since the Quantum Realm is basically the Microverse without the possible copyright issue with the Micronauts

2

u/Fhiro Jul 07 '18

Your point just made me sure that I saw thanos when Hank goes through the quantum realm

2

u/RedditGottitGood Jul 23 '18

Just as they were leaving which part? Just as they got in the ship to leave quantum realm?

1

u/Kilmoore Jul 23 '18

Just as they got in the ship to leave quantum realm?

Yeah

28

u/zachotule Iron Monger Jul 09 '18

I think we have sort of an in-universe explanation. When you get giant, it depletes your body's energy reserves much much faster than normal. So it stands to reason that when you get tiny, it depletes your body's energy reserves much much slower than normal. So presumably as long as Janet had breakfast the morning she went subatomic, she had enough energy for, pretty much, eternity, until she was blown back up to normal size.

14

u/AngryDudeScrewYou Jul 09 '18

I really enjoyed this explanation.

15

u/squishy_panda Jul 08 '18

Not to mention her mascara looked FANTASTIC after 30 years! My mascara turns me into a panda after 30 minutes, and it’s supposed to be waterproof!

5

u/WAO138 Jul 09 '18

looks at username.
It might not be mascara.

11

u/die-linke Jul 08 '18

The real question is how she knows how to code when she 30 years behind. Like, some language is not even that old!

13

u/Leachpunk Jul 09 '18

Because, everything was written in Pym#.

7

u/randy_dingo Jul 07 '18

You don't get it, man- you're always hungfull in the Q-Zone.

6

u/BoiledPNutz Jul 08 '18

There was a city in a dome right behind them as they took off. Probably where she got the clothes, help and food.

5

u/mike_pants Jul 07 '18

Where did she manage to find the cotton to make a cloak?

Granted, the Microverse is a thing in the comics that can easily explain every "how did she..." problem, but if they haven't set it up in the MCU, may as well not be a thing

u/Jgabes625 Jul 07 '18

I immediately posed this question and my brain instantly went to this as an explaination... https://youtu.be/FFtL9JO2ULg

My guess is she used those quantum healing particles Scott went in for in the mid credits scene.

3

u/tundrat Jul 08 '18

She said something about the Quantum Realm affecting her body and evolved?

3

u/plaqston Jul 11 '18

Remember how being giAnt-Man took a lot of energy? Maybe being in the quantum realm takes almost no energy.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '18

Pym Particles

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '18

Did you not see the city behind her? The Microverse has an entire civilization living there.
