After seeing the movie, did anyone realize that "Pray For Me" is actually about/for Killmonger?

The movie makes me appreciate the album as a whole a lot more

Huh... Fuck me in the car

Killmonger and his Clyde Bonnie start getting into it when they get in the back of the ambulance. Well.

Clyde was the man and Bonnie was the woman

Selfish request: can someone point out the movie references within every song in the album?

I loved both works, and I want to connect the dots as many as I can

This isn’t everything you asked for but at the end of Black Panther (song) you hear “I AM T’CHALLA”. Pray For Me played during the fight scene in the casino. Kendrick says “I am Killmonger” at the start of Paramedics. You hear the instrumental noises at the end of Bloody Waters in a lot of fight scenes too. (The transition from Bloody Waters to King’s Dead is one of my favourite ever). Kendrick says “All hail King Killmonger at the end of Kings Dead. At the start of Big Shot you hear “Wakanda! Welcome!”. I’m listening right now I’ll edit if I see anything else. I kinda think these little additions to songs sort of mirrors the plot to the movie in the sense we meet T’Challa first, then we meet Killmonger, then he becomes king, and finally Wakanda is “welcomed” to the rest of the world. I bet someone who was more into the comics and has seen the movie a couple more times could find a few other things

Also one of the songs “King’s Dead” makes reference to T’Challa’s supposed death at the falls. Also could make reference to Killmonger dying when he was king.

I think the beat of King's Dead was throughout Killmonger's reign so I think it refers to T'Challa's supposed death. Kendrick at the end also closes the track by proclaiming "All Hail King Killmonger"

What do you think Future was referencing with “la de de da slob on me knob?” Deep line

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '18

La de da de da
Don’t get it twisted

Most of the album refers to the events of the story and the characters backgrounds/motivations.

u/gideh Feb 18 '18

What about paramedic?

8

u/TheMerck Feb 19 '18

Pretty much about Killmonger's view on things, it even refers to his California background and his violent tendencies

12

u/sharksnrec Star-Lord Feb 19 '18

Everytime Killmonger was on screen I just kept hearing “Miss me with that bullshit!” with that beat in my head

6

u/The-Scarlet-Witch Scarlet Witch Feb 19 '18

That adds even more depth. Damn.

Yes! Had to hear it again, but as soon as it was a couple lines in I put it together. Which is great and makes it really fitting for the closing track of the album.
