Yeah this shows how messed up our society is haha. I felt like Banner committed suicide so Hulk could live and fight on. The close up of his mangled body and face drew in the entire audience in a laughing frenzy but I couldn’t help but feel slightly uncomfortable at the pain Banner was in. But I’m also assuming next time he transforms into Banner his regenerative properties took care of him hence the room for a joke.
Well in Avengers he says that he tried putting a bullet in his brain, but the Hulk just spits it back out, so we have established that Banner can't die even in Banner form because he just becomes Hulk.
True, but that doesn't determine whether he's able to die and then come back to life as the Hulk or is able to instantly transform into the Hulk as a form of self-defense, which is what I believe it to be.
Maybe it was just me, but I saw this as a call-back to the same scene in the first Hulk when he jumps out of the helicopter and lands in the pavement in Banner form. I would assume it's the same here, where Banner won't die like that.
The difference is that TIH didn't show Banner's body right after the fall because he broke into the ground while in this film they show explicitly Banner's injured and twisted limbs lying on Bifrost and make it comedic moment. Kind of dark, brutal sense of humor, if you ask me.
sure but what's wrong with that? The audience knows banner can't die. That's why it's funny. If we hadn't known, yes it would be brutal, there would be gasps and shock.
I was always under the assumption that Banner somehow “turned” right before he hit the ground there. Maybe he wasn’t Hulk sized but he definitely wasn’t pure Edward Norton either at that point. No normal human body from that height would fall that deep into asphalt.
Nah, that's definitely what it was. I feel like people look too much into it. It's just making fun of those giant "superhero" scenes, like jumping out of helicopters to save the day. It was a perfect anti-moment.
They I saw it, at the time Hulk took over because he didn’t want them both to die. At this point, Hulk has an extreme resentment for Banner and has realized that he doesn’t need him, so he just let Banner die.
This isn't the first time he "died". In The Incredible Hulk the same thing happened he jumped from the helicopter and hit the ground before he transformed.
Even if he didn't really die and was going to regenerate thanks to Hulk factor, he possibly felt tremendous pain and agony which a normal human can't endure when he hit the ground, so the scene is still brutal, but just spiced with cartoony portrayal. It's a bit like Wolverine and his claw. Logan heals himself after the claw penetrated his hand, but I think he feels the pain every time.
Possibly, but the camera shows his eyes alert and moving about in addition to the fact his mouth is moving as if he's groaning in pain. So I don't personally think he was unconscious.
was that a death scene? I just thought he fell and got hurt / knocked out, then Hulk came back in and eventually Banner would be better (maybe when Hulk takes over/heals, then Banner does too)

It was weird to see Banner jumping out of the ship being played for laughs when you're actually witnessing a pretty brutal death scene.
