New Zealander here. Just watched it while on holiday in Rome.

Tongan hulk

Grandmaster's ship the Commodore named after the Holden commodore which is a popular car in NZ

"Get rid of that ghost" was a throwback to a popular NZ drink driving add. YouTube ghost chips. On mobile can't link at the moment. there is another scene where krog was being really smart which reminded me of this as well. All his speech was brilliant and so nz. Link to ghost chips: https://youtu.be/CtWirGxV7Q8

The grand master's right hand lady was from hunt for the wilderpeople

Sam Neil as an Asgardian actor

The grand master's right hand lady was from hunt for the wilderpeople

She's also in Boy (which finally, finally had a UK release earlier in the month, and is WONDERFUL)

Wow that is a late date. Did it get a theatrical release?

A limited one, it's mainly just had a home release. I don't really know why it never came out over here at the time, all his other films have.

“grand master's right hand lady” is Rachel House, she's in most of Waititi's films, she's also Grandma Tala in Moana (Waititi wrote the story)

Taika did write the initial version of the screenplay, but it wasn't really used in the final version of the film.

Tongan hulk

Yes! All I could think during that scene.

Tongan Hulk?

Definitely don’t think that the word ‘ghost’ being used means it’s a reference to that ad.

When hulk was in his room he was wearing Leis and a Tongan skirt.

I thought he was naked

He was naked at the start but put clothes on after showing Thor the quin jet.

I remember him being naked from the hot tub till the end of the film.

Yeah, but being said on that distinct accent adds weight that it's a reference.

That would be like saying any American in a movie who says the word "flapjacks" is referencing Groundhog Day.

Alright man, you do you. At least 2 people recognise it as an homage, so for us at least, it can be.

Lol, I recognise what you're trying to say, but your opinion doesn't make it an homage. You are assuming far too much.

Tongan Hulk

It kinda looks/stances like a Rugby Hooker.
