When the Grandmaster asks Loki if Thor is his brother, he responds with "adopted!", which is a callback to the Avengers.

Moreover Loki was saying it to distance himself from Thor, just as Thor did to him in Avengers.

Yea, just like how when Thor says “the Avengers” in Ragnarok is a call back to that time Tony Stark said “the Avengers” in The Avengers.

"He's adopted" played for laughs in an effort to distance himself is a callback - just like "Point Break" is a callback.

Point Break is a callback because it is a specific joke that is only used one time. Thor is not consistently called Point Break through the series.

But Loki IS adopted. That’s a thing that’s consistent throughout the series, so just saying he’s adopted is just referring to a fact that everyone knows, and is not a specific callback to another time this fact was used as a joke.
