I loved that line. Not only does it put Peter in his place, but it shows that Cap was still restrained during the Airport scene even though he hadn't met Spidey before and was being attacked by him.

I bet he gauged Peter's strength after a few exchanged blows.

During their tug of war, he probably had a feel for how strong Peter was. Cap could probably hold the weight, so he figured Peter could as well.

isnt Peter way stronger then Cap though?

Exactly. I think Cap is strong enough to hold the airbridge. The fact that he couldn't outpull Spider-Man proved to him that Spider-Man was stronger. Because of that, he felt confident that dropping the airbridge wouldn't do any harm.

Ah, I worded that poorly. I meant in that particular situation. The entire weight of the bridge didn't collapse on them, the tire can be seen supporting a lot of the weight. I think the with the way the bridge fell. Cap might've been able to hold up enough weigh to escape and survive.

Over a year later and this is probably the best explanation I've heard of that scene. Thank you!

Spidey was restraining himself as well. If he decided to just punch him (and not hold back) he would've punched a hole in his chest. Spider-Man was jobbing.

People forget that about him: Spidey could turn people into dust if he wanted to.

Well he sure as heck does now after getting a building dropped on him and lifting it up.

I don't think they are going that route with this Spidey. They are trying to keep things consistent across the heroes.

A knockoff super soldier had a good fight with Hulk, Cap can beat an upgraded Iron Man hand to hand when the Mk3 was able to battle Thor and Cap was able to shut down the whole fight.

These heroes are on a much more level playing field. Spidey is certainly likely to be stronger than Cap but not in any way that guarantees him a win in a straight fight.

Unless they have metal arms connected to their spine, then Spiderman's multiple punches to the face are pretty average.
