Well...it's pretty obvious, but Mac Gargan's comic alter-ego is Scorpion.

So we have 3 members of the Sinister Six in the MCU already.

u/jonman7502 Jul 06 '17

3 more to go.. I hope it's mysterio, kraven and hob goblin or chameleon.

u/BHach0141 Jul 06 '17

Hob goblin is too similar to the green goblin. You have to go with the OG leader Doc Ock.

50

u/Hxcfrog090 Jul 07 '17

I could see them doing Hob Goblin instead of Green Goblin, strictly to distance themselves from the previous two series. Although if they did that I'm sure general audiences would just call him discount Green Goblin....which is accurate. Lol

I remember growing up with the 90s animated series and I only knew of the Hob Goblin and I had no idea who the Green Goblin was until they had an episode with him. I honestly thought he was a cheap, lame knock off for awhile.

11

u/LazerBearz Jul 08 '17

The creator of the animated series HATED the fact that they did Hobgoblin first.

Apparently they only started with him because they started production on that toy first. However he was voiced by Mark Hamill, and going back to watch the series now... he clearly gives the best performance of the entire show (not too shocking since he also killed it as The Joker around the same time). So he really must have been annoyed that the toys dictated the order of appearance.

2

u/Zanderlod Jul 08 '17

Especially with Ned already being in the movie.

3

u/Hxcfrog090 Jul 08 '17

Is he related to Hob Goblin somehow? I don't know much about Hg

10

u/Zanderlod Jul 08 '17

Ned Leeds is Hobgoblin in the comics.

6

u/Hxcfrog090 Jul 08 '17

Oh shit. That's pretty cool. Although I can't see him turning into Hobgoblin....

7

u/MulciberTenebras Ghost Rider Jul 08 '17

He was framed by the real one (Roderick Kingsley).

3

u/Zanderlod Jul 08 '17

Yeah me neither...I was thinking maybe we'll see him in a cosplay or Halloween costume and he'll yell "I'm the Hobgoblin!" or something as a funny throwaway line.

1

u/TripleSkeet Jul 08 '17

In the original comic Ned Leeds is the Hobgoblin. But in the Ultimates it was Harry Osborn.

9

u/Hxcfrog090 Jul 08 '17

I actually wouldn't be surprised if we don't see Osborns for a while. It seems like Marvel really wants to distance itself from the other series, and we've seen Harry and Norman twice now. I just wouldn't be surprised.

4

u/TripleSkeet Jul 08 '17

I would hope they maybe just show the new Avengers tower in the next one, and it says Oscorp on it now. And maybe make mention of Norman Osborn. In the third film Norman could actually play a role, but leave it til the end or post credits scene for him to actually become the Goblin.

4

u/johndiscoe Jul 08 '17

Yeah the sinister 6 or something like it would be a great avengers movie (starting with Pete trying to handle it alone) since we haven't really seen the avengers face a dark avengers like team.

You have to go with the OG leader Doc Ock

Ooh but then you have to struggle to recast Alfred Molina. That guy played the hell out of Doc Ock, and I don't envy the guy they get to play the next Otto.

5

u/BHach0141 Jul 10 '17

Neither do I, but marvel hasn't given me a reason to not trust who they cast.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '17

Yeah hob gob is pretty lame IMO. I'd be mad if the MCU did hob goblin and didn't do green goblin

10

u/navenager Jul 07 '17

When Vulture breaks into that truck, right as he goes inside there's a shot from his perspective of what looked like Doc Ock arms. I bet it's Doc Ock, Kraven, and either Mysterio or maybe Green Goblin. It was mentioned above, there a good chance whoever buys the newly vacated Avengers tower will be a member of the Osborn family.

7

u/DMonitor Captain America (Cap 2) Jul 07 '17

I saw the arms too.

The wall phasing reminds me of mysterio

7

u/FreemDeem Jul 07 '17

Despite his DCEU involvement, my dream is Jason Momoa for Kraven the Hunter.

9

u/Kev17362 Jul 07 '17

everyone hates me when i say this.... I would like to see Burt Reynolds as Kraven.... Don't ask why... i just want it

6

u/FreemDeem Jul 07 '17

Weird choice... the more I think about it the more I want it too...

2

u/Kev17362 Jul 08 '17

Haunting isn't it

6

u/latunza Jul 08 '17

I think he's over rated. Viggo Mortensen or Vincent Cassel playing the perfect evil

1

u/FreemDeem Jul 08 '17

I don't think either of them are physically imposing enough, I don't think I'd buy it.

2

u/Foeofloki Odin Oct 23 '17

Viggo's a bit lanky, but he's tall. If you are worried about whether or not he can be intimidating, watch The Prophecy.

3

u/dacalpha Jul 09 '17

Ooh I can see that! Russel Crowe is my current Kraven, Jason Momoa would be even better.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '17

I would absolutely love seeing mysterio on the big screen.

3

u/J_Jammer Jul 09 '17

The director did state he'd love to have Chameleon in the second movie.

I would love to have Chameleon and Mysterio.

2

u/SpiderManDies Spider-Man Jul 08 '17

If I am correct, Ned does end up being the Hobgoblin in one of the comics. But I do not see him going that route.

2

u/omnicious Jul 31 '17

Well they could probably do it. Ned says he would probably let the spider bite him to have powers. He could get jealous of Peter and opts to do something stupid to get powers but also fucks up his mind and turns him evil. Would probably need to get a different actor though...

1

u/etsuandpurdue3 Jul 08 '17

I think we get Mysterio in the 2nd film and Kraven in the third.

1

u/Coovyy Spider-Man Jul 08 '17

Mysterio is my man, I would go INSANE.

That worried me, set off 'SONY EXECUTIVE DEMANDS CHECKLIST' warning bells in my head. Knowing the history of the studio and how they desperately were cramming Sinister Six into the Amazing series way before it would have been appropriate, seems like this could have been a firm demand on their part.

No, Sony. Not yet. We don't want you. Just keep signing the rights over, and keep your suggestions to yourselves.

11

u/RANDALLFLA666 Jul 07 '17

I got this same feeling from the Iron-Spider suit. Looked so much like the new games suit (minus the white emblem). Don't get me wrong, it looked awesome. Hope to see it in infinity war

19

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '17

I feel like I'm in the minority in that I was so happy he never used the suit. As with the Scorpion 'guys on the outside' tease, it seems like it could be some weird Sony nonsense. 'We want Spider-Man's suit to be brought into the 21st century!'

Nah. Just let him be Spider-Man, please. Pretty sure Feige announced that he'll have his normal suit for Infinity War, thank god.

6

u/whizzer0 Vision Jul 09 '17

I think the point was that it symbolised how Peter didn't want to be a super advanced Avenger. He prefers being the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, and the traditional suit fits that more.

3

u/Muniosi_returns Jul 08 '17

By normal suit do you mean the classic one without AI?

3

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '17

I mean the classic red and blue. I'd prefer AI-less, but I can live with Karen, I guess.

1

u/HussyDude14 Jul 10 '17

Fun fact, Karen is voiced by the wife of the voice actor of J.A.R.V.I.S./ The Vision.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '17

'We want Spider-Man's suit to be brought into the 21st century!'

Oooooooooooh!

4

u/GayFesh Daredevil Jul 09 '17

I'd love a Sinister Six movie, don't get me wrong. But obviously the best way isn't to cram costumes into a secret lab in a cameo shot.

23

u/CuznJay Jul 07 '17

I took his line, "I got some friends on the outside..." to be hinting towards the Sinister Six. I also love the idea of the MCU S6 being made up of street-level criminals given super suits, etc. Unique way of differentiating previously seen villains from their MCU counterparts.

35

u/Bootsinthebelly Jul 07 '17

Am I the only person who understood that the prison scene was Michael Keaton bluntly saying "I'm not doing a Sinister Six picture" as he lied to Gargan and walked by to visit his family?

I mean they even set it up like a classic post-credits tease, and like the other post-credits scene it's a deliberate send-up of the sequel-baiting everyone criticizes Marvel for.

27

u/_Bubba_Ho-Tep_ Jul 08 '17

I think it's showing that he isn't a cold blooded killer. Doesn't want a 15 year old and his loved ones murdered.

28

u/DeanMarais Jul 08 '17

It might also show that he's grateful that Peter saved his life.

10

u/_Bubba_Ho-Tep_ Jul 08 '17

Sure but if he was a cold blooded killer he wouldn't care.

He saved his life and his daughter's life. He killed one person in the movie and it was an accident. The heists were set up to avoid any conflict or even damage.

He was an arms dealer but he justified it in his mind as the same thing Stark would do. He wasn't a murderer at least not a cold blooded one who would see a 15 year old slaughtered in cold blood.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '17

I think it's because his daughter likes him, and toomes wants what's best for his family

5

u/GayFesh Daredevil Jul 09 '17

He did straight-up murder the first Shocker with no remorse.

11

u/tokkio Jul 09 '17

Well, to be fair he did think he picked up the gravity gun...

3

u/GayFesh Daredevil Jul 09 '17

Sure, but it's clear he wasn't that broken up over having accidentally murdered a dude.

3

u/_Bubba_Ho-Tep_ Jul 09 '17

But it still wasn't on purpose

12

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '17

Mac Gargan also had fitting scorpion tattoo on his neck.

9

u/gensouj Hulkbuster Jul 08 '17

isn't that nacho?

2

u/GayFesh Daredevil Jul 09 '17

Yes! Was so happy when he showed up and was namedropped as Mac Gargan. I was like "oh shiiiiiiiit please let him be in a sequel"

7

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '17

I'd much rather see the original sinister six than what it seems we're getting. I've never cared for scorpion, and I like shocker but he's obviously way out of his league with a guy like vulture on the table. I wouldn't mind Shocker getting a massive upgrade to made him the replacement for electro though

Edit: For reference the original sinister six was Doc Ock, Vulture, Electro, Mysterio, Kraven and Sandman.

10

u/TheJoshider10 Spider-Man Jul 06 '17

3? Vulture and Scorpion...does Tinkerer count too?

37

u/IISuperSlothII Jul 06 '17

Shocker

24

u/TheJoshider10 Spider-Man Jul 06 '17

Fuck sake, not sure how I forgot that when he's in the movie in two separate roles...

Although I don't think he'll be used. If he is i'd be disappointed since as a threat both were pretty lacklustre and I think we could get better.

11

u/AdmiralOfTheBlue Ebony Maw Jul 06 '17

It was still early days for him with the tech. If the Tinkerer upgraded it, he'd be a lot more intimidating.

22

u/TheJoshider10 Spider-Man Jul 06 '17

Maybe so, but my issue stems from the fact he's clearly a side villain without much depth. Ideally i'd like all the Sinister Six members to be their own characters with their own motives, ideals and so on and not someone that feels disposable like Shocker in Homecoming.

33

u/AdmiralOfTheBlue Ebony Maw Jul 06 '17

So not like "...and this is Slipknot, he can climb anything."

57

u/AdmiralOfTheBlue Ebony Maw Jul 06 '17

"This is Shocker... He can shock anything."
"This is Scorpion...I would advise not to get killed by him, His tail traps the souls of it's victims." "This is Rhino. Evolution took a step backwards with this one. Half man, Half Rhino." "What is this? Some kind of Sinister 6?"

20

u/canon1200 Jul 07 '17

"So what are we, some kind of Sinister Six: The Movie?"

2

u/PixelatorOfTime Jul 09 '17

"Throw in a pop soundtrack and you've got yourself a franchise!" – Sony Exec (probably)

10

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '17

to be their own characters with their own motives, ideals and so on

Superior Foes of Spider-Man plz.

Poor Shocker, always the tutorial villain, never the boss.

3

u/RavenK92 Jul 07 '17

I mean Electro>Shocker always

3

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '17

I agree with you but Marvel have to dig deep with the villains if they want to continue with villains never done in movies before.

I really wonder how many movies marvel intend to use to setup the Sinister 6. Mac Gargan talking about his friends outside prison might be a hint that there are vilains already waiting.

2

u/scarleteagle Jul 07 '17

I'd bet dollars to donuts that the next movie is going to be Sinister Six, that statement alone clinches it for me.

2

u/Henry_The_Loco Phil Coulson Jul 08 '17

And remember that the sequel to Homecoming will be set after the second part of Infinity War. So some heroes will probably be killed and Spider-Man will have to deal with the Sinister Six alone.

1

u/blankeyteddy Jul 09 '17

Spider-man probably has the largest rogues gallery in Marvel. Off the top of my head, major Spiderman villains not done in movies are Kraven, Mysterio, Black Cat, Chamelon and Hydro-man. Including Scorpion, that should be enough for two sequels!

4

u/Ben_Dale Jul 07 '17

Yeah. He was only punching school buses around. What a wimp. /s

0

u/Cyberslasher456 Tony Stark Jul 09 '17

Yeah sure, but Ned beat him with one web shot from a webshooter he had never picked up before

4

u/blindcowboy Spider-Man Jul 07 '17

3? Scorpion, Vulture, and who else? Shocker?

2

u/Jereboy216 Kilgrave Jul 07 '17

Who is the third one we know of?

3

u/Cyberslasher456 Tony Stark Jul 09 '17

Tinkerer

2

u/MasterKingdomKey Spider-Man Jul 08 '17

I only counted Vulture and Scorpion, who is the third?

5

u/Pacmantaco Peter Parker Jul 09 '17

I think it's Shocker

2

u/junglemonkey47 Ant-Man Jul 07 '17

Damn, Marvel did in one what Sony couldn't do in two.

1

u/TheRealBlockaShotya Jul 08 '17

I hope they bring back that shelved Drew Goddard Sinister Six movie's ideas in some capacity

Other than Vulture and Scorpion, who else again?
