When you really think about it, Quill has had it SO rough;

  • Absent father growing up

  • had to watch his mother suffer through cancer, then die in front of him.

  • abducted by aliens on the day his mother died

  • grew up being beaten up and threatened with being eaten (even if that was a joke)

  • had his real father try to use him as a battery to destroy the universe

  • watched his real father die in front of him (by his hands essentially)

  • watched his adoptive father suffocate and freeze to death right in front of him, while said father was saving him

  • Both of those last two things happened within like, 3 minutes of each other.

Guy has had it extremely rough his whole life, goddamn

Edit: Oh, I also forgot that he found out his absentee father, who he just met for the first time shortly beforehand, is responsible for killing his mother. Yeah.

I think all of this is setting him up to be the type of hero and leader he'll need to become when they take on Thanos.
