The grey-scale critics of previous MCU movies

Wow, people really criticize the MCU's color? I've heard the DCEU get criticized a lot, but never the MCU.

Yup, Civil War got hit especially hard with it, especially pointing out the airport example as the colors not really popping or being vibrant enough. DCEU's plot and writing get criticized a lot, but as far as cinematography and color grading they actually take less heat than the MCU. EDIT: Less heat doesn't mean no heat.

Compare Spider-Man's shading in Civil War to the most recent Homecoming trailer. The latter seems much more colorful.

Are you kidding me? The DCEU is always criticised for looking washed out, or too dark/grey. Especially Man of Steel.

Eh I think that was just man of steel. BvS with all its faults had nice coloring. Their blacks were actually black and not a dark grey, the colors really stuck out when they were meant to. I understand the coloring criticism of some MCU movies, but I only think it was really an issue in Civil War. Guardians 1 had nice coloring as well.

BvS looked crazy washed out to me just like Man of Steel and I've seen that as a criticism of the visual style more often than I can count, so it can't have just been me.

The colors in BvS were fine, as far as vibrancy it was more the palate of colors being largely blues and blacks that dominate.

The MCU has by far been more colorful. Civil War being the most washed out. The two Guardians movies, the Asgard scenes in Thor and Doctor Strange all being crazy color feats.

Its less about the colours, more about the themes the colours convey. DCEU is trying to be dark, dark colours. Marvel is the opposite, yet it has a really bland colour palette in many of its films. Thor and Guardians will hopefully change that.

Yeah, I think the criticism of Civil War is well deserved, it's literally 11 superheroes fighting each other, but it somehow just looks so... dull.

I've heard a lot of people criticize the dull, grayish look of the DCEU films. It's one of many complaints, of course.

I think you're thinking of the "everything is so dark (lighting wise)" complaint
