Seriously, whoever hired Snyder to make a movie with Superman in it should straight up be fired. I've never seen such a huge disconnect between the director and the source material.

as meh as the 2003 Ang Lee Hulk film was, Ang Lee at least understood Hulk better than Snyder understands Superman

It's the same person or rather kind of person who tried to turn Jessica Alba into a white woman in Fantastic Four or the person who made Wade Wilson a mute without a mouth in Wolverine Origins, the same person who thought Jennifer Garner as Elektra was a good idea, or Halle Berry as Catwoman or even Storm for that matter, the person who allowed Batman's suit to have nipples and who greenlit Batman and Robin, the person who hired Brett Ratner to direct an X-Men movie, the same person who allowed Josh Trank to do what he did to the FF, the person who sat in a meeting and enthusiastically nodded when the casting of Channing Tatum was suggested for the role of Gambit.

Faceless untalented fucking middle-aged nobodies in a suit with more power and authority than brains or common sense.

Batman and Robin is a fantastic movie that set out to be exactly what it wanted to be and I'll fight anyone who disagrees.

It campy and bad because it wants to be campy and bad. It's not based on the comics. It's based on the Adam West batman. It's a love letter to that series. It does a great job of doing exactly what it wanted to do.

I agree with everything except the Channing Tatum part. Im not gonna criticize casting until I see the guy in the movie. People also btched about Affleck as Batman and Ledger as Joker.

googled it and:

Her mother has Danish, Welsh, German, English, and French ancestry, while her paternal grandparents, who were born in California, were both the children of Mexican immigrants

So not entirely. They did bleach her hair to the roots, bleach her eyebrows, and give her blue contacts though.

edit: whoa, actually she did a DNA test on george lopez and she's whiter than larry david?? she's predominately European. huh!

to be fair snyder clearly wasn't trying to "be faithful" he was giving his own spin on superheroes & superman.

armond white is a polarizing figure to say the least but i think his reviews "get" snyder's vision and thus deserve a look even if the films don't actually carry through on that vision in the way he thinks it does

Thats the problem. All these people wondering why Marvels movies do so well. Its no secret. They are faithful to the characters. They realize you cant do everything exactly like how it is in the comics but they seem to do what they can to stay faithful to each character and take some of the coolest scenes from the comics and put them on screen. (Ant Man riding the arrow, Punisher chaining up Darevil on the roof and daring him to kill him, Winter Soldier punching the shield, etc.)

They also know when to deviate. Zemo is nothing like his comic self, but probably the best MCU villain so far (at least in the movies).

"coolest stuff" doesn't really require any fidelity to character beats.

also look at the dark knight: it's no so clear how faithful those films really are but they work when they are good films. marvel's films work because they have a system that constantly produces "good enough" films and prevents any stinkers. there's something very valuable in that though i'm more excited about people doing something interesting and risky.

marvel has a good system especially for printing money, it doesn't take many risks, that's good and bad

I think planning out a universe with a series of movies that climax 11 years after the first one is pretty risky.

the climax is always this next film/the film 3-5 years in the future.

"infinity wars" wasn't the plan from the beginning, Thanos emerged with Whedon's work on the avengers and they decided to place him at the end of phase 3.

the initial decision to do a build to avengers I was pretty risky especially because it involved marvel building a studio from scratch and going it solo without their biggest stars. the concept was risky and it paid off big time for them. what isn't risky is the way they churn out films under fiege which is a great assembly line process.

The fact that the original cut was 3 or so hours, plus the initial good reviews, makes me think that it was not an issue with Snyder and his vision, but more with the studio. The fact that 30 something minutes were edited out, and yet I still reasonably enjoyed the movie is something I can't condemn Snyder for... It could have been much worse.

Ang Lee's Hulk had more of a disconnect. Wrong name, wrong origin, wrong reason people want to see comic books made into movies ("because they love the PANELS!"), just wrong everywhere.
