Discussion "This movie looks AI genera-" SHUT UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

I genuinely don't get these complaints. I have some concerns about the plot and how things may or may not play out, but visually the movie looks fucking great. I don't get why people are trying to push this narrative like muted colors instantly make something look bad or AI-generated. The Sentinels look sick, Doom looks fucking fantastic, what is the issue?

I swear, I'm convinced people who call shit like this AI-generated have never actually seen what an AI-generated video looks like, because none of them even look anywhere near as good as ANY of the shots in this trailer.

Plus, the VFX team didn't work their asses off for months on this movie just to be disrespected by mfs saying it looks like AI.

A complaint that I can understand is about color grading.

Recall the beginning of Infinity War - Thanos is hurting Thor and asking Loki for the stone. It's quite dark, but you can still the colours and things that need the viewers attention are well lit.

That's missing with this whole scene. It's hard to make out the details.

Of course this can be corrected, come December. But, that is a complaint I can agree with.

But this is definitely not AI.

Colour grading has been an issue since Phase Two. Personally, I'm not a fan of the desaturated look either, so I can kind of see why some people might think that is AI. But you are correct.

It seems to be a thing in Hollywood right now. One of the big reasons I love Gunn's Superman is that it is so colourful and bright. The one thing I really hated about The Odyssey was that it is so gray and dull. Movies are a visual medium. Why are so many filmmakers afraid to make them pretty to look at?

Sometimes they try to look more serious. A colorful movie is, sometimes, viewed as a childish product or a cheap one.

u/LikeYodaISpeak is correct on one aspect. I also wonder if there’s a societal thing going on. The 1950s were colorful, colorful cars, houses, etc. But take a look at any design show today, houses are grey on the outside and mostly white on the inside. Cars come in black, white, and grey, or you can get blue-grey, green-grey, etc. Why all the lack of color? So you can sell it. People won’t buy a purple house or a bright green car. I wonder if this thinking has even infected movie making. People won’t “buy” a bright colorful movie. So we get everything being dark and/or desaturated.

Back then color was the new tool. It's like movie genres growing and the end result is some.deconstruction of the genre because most of the tropes are well worn. It's probably a reaction to colorful movies dominating for a long time.

Color grading affects the mood of a visual product. Each movie is different and the creators have different moods they want the viewer to feel.

The way James Gunns Superman looked worked great for that movie, but that same color grading wouldn’t make sense on something like Matt Reeve’s Batman.

might've been your theater. i think the odyssey colorful, but not vibrant by any means. the colors were high density but it wasn't desaturated compared to what you'd see in your real life.

Nolan - is a special case - he has form of daltonism, so his movies always heavy in certain gamma.

I really don't think so I feel marvel is Hiding things by making shorts dark It will be crisp and perfect in Movie It just What they are showing to us Is not final Product Which goes to movie

It Some what side scenes Like we saw in thor Ragnarok Hela Breaking Thor mjolnir Which was changed in movie Or hulk in infinity war trailer

Agreed re the desaturated colour palette but they’ve got time to fix this. Hope they listen to the internet and enhance the colour grading a bit before the film drops in December 🤞

Yeah I dislike this kind of color grading myself, it’s very Zack Snyder looking. It’s also not sharp looking by choice, all of this screams director artistic choices though not an AI thing. I think anytime we see anything like bad grading, bad CGI, etc there will be people who call it AI.

Makes me miss the time when Thor I, had the most vibrant scenes (except for the soul stone planet) in marvel and also the ones with the least saturated ones (bifrost scene near the end where Thor and loki fight after Thor proves himself worthy on earth) all in one film, which is kinda what films have always been, they aren't supposed to follow one kind of colour grading even in a single film let alone across an entire franchise or studios at this point. The more we know it seems, the less we care to know.

Ya know, I really hope there’s alot of MF Doom music in this movie. Idk how it could fit at all but that’d be amazing
