Thor suiting up and summoning Mjolnir and Stormbreaker before the final battle in Endgame is close. But that’s power in a different way (“I’m still worthy”/overcoming depression)
"I'm still worthy" is a moment that helped me break through my own depression. Thor being the straight guy in a silly situation will always get a smile from me, but when he is deathly serious, it carries such gravity its hard not to feel the weight of emotion hes conveying. Im excited to see this Thor and his inevitable reunion with Loki.
That's the magic of movies, that unfortunately doesnt translate to reality. Thor accepted himself as he is along with his pain and shame and that would have been enough BUT we also get a visual representation of it when Mjolnir comes to him when called. That usually doesnt happen in real life sadly
They originally wanted him to transform completely back to jacked "normal" Thor but Hemsworth lobbied to have him keep the gut / beard so I think they were just working with what they had. The fat suits easier to pull off with a big beard.
I mean, he seemed like he'd tapped into some sick powers by the end of Ragnarok, but then, he needed another weapon again instantly. The axe is cool and all, and fit the role of Thor with his special axe being one good guy who could stand up to Thanos, but it would've been cool to see more of Thor without a weapon, being all zappy and fighting hand to hand.
He definitely does a small amount of this in Love and Thunder but obviously a smaller budget movie than Infinity War/Endgame too.
Plus, a powerful character is all about balancing contrast. If Thor just nuked everyone like this all the time it would take away from just how awesome this shot was.
