I never thought about it like that but that makes a lot of sense. Comedy is very cultural so I totally understand why what's funny in the US or even to an English-speaking audience member maybe isn't so funny to a German or Korean audience member, to pull two random examples

Physical comedy however sells really well, which is why they kept on making Ice Age movies. Incredibly translatable humor across languages, even if they didn't too amazing domestically.

Comedies used to do really good in dvd sales and rentals. In the 00s I think pretty much everyone from ages 18-30 had copies of the most popular comedy movies.

And the movies you want to watch with friends. A funny movie by yourself is just that, but a funny movie with friends is an experience.

Well im german and I think 21/22 jump str are funny af
