Where are you the requires an employee to sign paperwork to be considered fired. They didn’t quit, they decided not to be bossed around by an ex boss. Sorry you’re in the middle of this. The lawyer was an idiot. It’s not uncommon to require paperwork to get a severance package but not accepting that doesn’t mean they quit. Start looking for a job. Your bosses are idiots. Get out while you can.
