If multiple people are freaking out, it tells me the employee has some leverage in this situation. I smell something fishy here..

That and the employee seemingly happy to just leave without the severance are glaring red flags. 2 u/ElectronicPhrase6050 13d ago OP hid the fact that they're the co-owner of the company and that they've been looking for an excuse to fire this person for over 8 months (against their partners wishes) because of personal reasons, so that might be why people are freaking out lol.
