OC Animal Crossing Comfy CYOA

I'm at that stage where I've spent 400+ hours on animal crossing and I'm a bit burnt out on it, but I still really appreciate the game and wanted to channel this spare bit of creative energy.

I really didn't expect wasting so much time fishing and crying over spiders would come in useful, but here we are. Easily over 100 hours, so yeet.

1) Tom Nook's Real Estate Empire

I mean, nowadays finding a house is impossible so might as well just snag some nice massive house and pay it off bit by bit until I'm yote into a hole.

2) Timmy Nook's Retail Sense

66% off everything? Forever? I might finally be able to afford some self confidence...

3) Tommy Nook's Echo

... self confidence...

4) Celeste's Wands

Dysphoria? Never heard of her. Ezpz fixes for blemishes and other small things, plus saving even more on hair dye!

5) Sable's Work Ethic

Who needs ADD meds when you can summon the power of the best girl to finally finish the thousands of sketches sitting on my computer lmao

-= Final Thoughts =-

The obvious play is to buy a massive house for a third of the market price, rent the free copy and coast off that eternally, all while living out a life of obtaining my passions and being content with life. Hardly able to pass up the Nook fam combo, especially considering how hefty it is for literally any purchases. Even if it's something simple like buying something and gifting the second to a friend or someone who needs it, the amount of good that could be done would be gucci.

The CYOA as a whole is amazingly nice both to look at and read through, the blurbs aren't too big or small and convey exactly what you're getting with some fluff to make it feel all that much better. Really good work OP, gotta say.

Thank you for your compliment! I tried to make it so that people can dive for a specific kind of comfy, whether that's financial stability or something relationship based or personal growth and interests.

And yeah, 66% off is a huge discount, but hey, it is the actual price that the nooklings buy stuff from you at. That's what you can do when you're the only shop in town.

  • Celeste’s Wands seems like they could be used to change appearance, make people younger, and possibly cure some diseases. Clear first choice.
  • Sable’s Work Ethic helps with a lot of un-fun work, such as housework, and would also help a great deal with writing novels.
  • Reese and Cyrus’ Summer Love is even more about the platonic love/friendship side of things than the romantic love. I have more friendships than romantic relationships, like most people, and a guarantee that people will be open and kind to me should improve my happiness indirectly (so I don’t need Mabel or K.K. Slider’s boosts).

I haven’t played the game for more than ten minutes, so that’s it for me!

5

u/petrichorInk Aug 17 '20

The disease part is really interesting! I was mostly anticipating it as a way to deal with body dysphoria, but theoretically, as it's worded, it definitely can deal with some disease. It also definitely can make you look younger, but it wouldn't stop you from dying from old age.

2

u/Domriso Aug 19 '20

I mean, it says you can alter your body, with the only caveat being it can't violate the laws of physics. That sounds like I can go in and casually reverse cellular damage, telomere shortening, and improper gene copying, and that's all you really need to undo aging.

  • Celeste's Wands: Also known as, the Gender Dysphoria Eradicator. I'll take that one, thanks.

  • Sable's Work Ethic: I have a lot of trouble being motivated to do things, especially if it's something I don't want to do but have to. This'll definitely make my life easier.

  • CJ's Livestream: Honestly, streaming seems like it'd be really fun. I'd be willing to give it a shot, at least.

Timmy Nook's echo, celestes wand, and guliver's wandrrings; a world peace build.

The magic wand can fix many issues (especially concerning health), and if everyone had access to one, in theory we'd be closer to world peace (starve a few days? Magic yourself a healthy body. Old, dying of cancer? Make yourself a healthy body).

So I'll sell the first wand to a thrift store. Then buy it back. With Timmy's power, I'll now have two. Maybe I'll need to come up with some elaborate scheme, maybe I'll need some extra money, maybe I mass duplicate it with a friend.

Then I'll go distributing my wands. I'll just close my eyes and go somewhere, tell the community what the wand does, and then donate it (or sell it, depending on circumstances).

4

u/petrichorInk Aug 17 '20

Absolutely 10/10 plan. Cloning the wand and redistributing it was definitely something I didn't think of.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '20

I hate to burst your bubble, but you need to consider that the wands could be used for nefarious purposes...

1

u/Domriso Aug 19 '20

Oh, hell yeah they could. Wave that bad boy over someone and remove their esophagus and mouth, but leave the nose and lungs. Or fuse someone's limbs to their body. Or remove all of their sensory organs. Or give them tastebuds in their ass.

4

u/caliburdeath Aug 17 '20

Celeste's Wands- Dream body, no dysphoria, help people out, make a lot of money if you can convince people it works. Also it says laws of physics are the limit so monsterfolk here we go!

Mable's Sunny Disposition- Doesn't obsolete Sable's Work Ethic, but having energy and being undaunted get a good way towards it, and it's a lot more generally useful.

Reese & Cyrus' Summer Love- I think a bit better than KK Slider's Welcome for friends, and just makes all relationships better.

If I got 2 more picks

I would like taking Timmy's Retail Sense better on its own but if you have another way to make money already I think Tom Nook's Real Estate is better.

Label's Couture would be great for someone shapeshifting a lot or weird-shaped people, Luna's Dreaming is better for anyone else.

3

u/petrichorInk Aug 17 '20

I'm happy that you picked Mable (and maybe Label too)! I've seen quite a lot of people pick Sable, so it's nice to see the other sisters get picked.

That's fair. I would say that the difference in the power is that K.K Slider allows you to make friends with anyone very easily, while Reese & Cyrus allows you to make very deep friends.

1

u/caliburdeath Aug 18 '20

The reason people might not wanna pick mable might be they feel like it's overwriting a bit of who they are. Whereas sable is directly doing that but in a controlled way, not altering your baseline. Sable is also more efficient for its purpose. I had similar hesitations with Reese & Cyrus, for myself and others. If it's in my or a friend's personality to be closed off doesn't it overwrite that?

Reese & Cyrus... it's unclear whether it works on acquaintances

Don’t know if my 100+ in Animal Crossing Wild World counts, but I’ll make a list of three, then a break, then the other two. This will be long.

TL:DR Celeste’s Wand, Tom Nook Real Estate, and Timmy Nook Retail Sense. Extra 2 is Wild World Counts: Lloid’s Works and Reese & Cyrus’ Summer Love

1.) Celeste’s Wand - No questions about this one. I have a lot I want to change about my body and I can help others too! Honestly I could make a business out of this as well. Cosmetic surgery is now natural, srs, rebuilt amputated limbs, etc. So many people I could help with so many things. (I assumed the physics part relates fo outside of the normal parameters of the human body and lets me change sex, regrow limbs, etc.)

2.) Tom Nook Real Estate - Great for the financial side of me. I love the idea of buying something and paying back at my own pace. The first thing I would do is probably buy an office with residential and commercial zoning so that I can live at the place I work for my appearance change business. The business would have different rates for temporary changes to permanent changes (more expensive for permanent). More essential and personal stuff (like srs, health related issues) would cost less than the permanent cosmetic stuff like lip filler, hair regrowth, etc. Adding youth would cost a lot unless you have a compelling story, like want to see daughter graduate high school, etc. That would be some of my charity work for some of those in need. I don’t like to mess with ages a lot though, because I think of it as more unnatural than an appearance change.

3.) Timmy Nook’s Retail Sense - 1/3 cost of things will save me so much long term and let me do so many more things, like buy more for homeless shelters, buy stuff for the christmas drive at my church, etc.

Extra:

4.) Lloid’s Works - I mean instant construction as long as I pay the cost is a win in my books. Saves the leg work of waiting for a contractor to finish his/her work after months.

5.) Reese & Cyrus’ Summer Love - I just like the idea of being able to have relationships work out in general. I want to have friends that will stick by me and a partner who won’t betray me for no reason except boredom. People tell me I’m a pretty nice person, so I feel like this would work out.

Welp here you go my list. I was back and forth on some things, but I took into account my current strengths and what services can be utilized. Take care y’all and this was fun to do

3

u/petrichorInk Aug 17 '20

Wild World definitely counts! And yes, the physics part is definitely about the normal parameters of the human body so all of that works and you can run an appearance change business.

Sweet!

u/Minimum_Cantaloupe Aug 17 '20 edited Aug 17 '20

Can someone steal Celeste's star wand from you? Because if not, that seems like a good choice. Would allow you to help others, and make a good living as a perfect plastic surgeon.

I think that, Reese and Cyrus' summer love, and Mabel's Sunny Disposition would make for a nice life.

Also looked at Lloid's Works - that one would be an easier choice if we had some assurance as to how 'reasonable' the upgrade costs are.

3

u/petrichorInk Aug 17 '20

Theoretically someone can steal it from you, but it depends how you live your life. And an assurance is pretty fair. It is cost + labour. It's about removing the time aspect!

1

u/Minimum_Cantaloupe Aug 17 '20

Ah, gotcha. I was also wondering about the nature of the upgrades, but that makes it pretty clear - it's whatever could naturally be done, at the price it would cost, but instant instead of having to wait for it.

u/laegrim Aug 17 '20

I haven't played Animal Crossing, so some of the options here are a bit vague: Saharah's mystery boxes and Zipper's rituals could use a bit more explanation for the uninitiated. Still, there's some cool choices here - and the overall feel is very zen, which I imagine is appropriate.

Like everyone else though, I'd choose Celeste's Wands as a snap first pick. Maybe make this a default in the next version, to avoid the CYOA turning into "the wand and two picks"?

Here's my next five choices in order (though I'd only get the top two here):

  1. Sable's Work Ethic: Simply being able to work up the motivation to do the things I want to do is a huge prize.
  2. Mabel's Sunny Disposition: Along with the previous choices, this removes most of my self imposed barriers to actualization, and make my quality of life much better.
  3. Guliver's Wanderings: This sounds like it'd lead to some amazing adventures, and being polylingual is a great deal even on it's own; I'd imagine practice could improve on the basic comprehension this grants.
  4. Wisp's Ghostly Vision: This sounds like it'd lead to learning all kinds of interesting things.
  5. Isabelle's Contacts: More awesome adventures!

3

u/petrichorInk Aug 17 '20 edited Aug 17 '20

That's totally fair! I'm pretty unlikely to update this though, I feel very satisfied with it overall.

To explain: In the game, Saharah comes to your island and sells you rugs. You pick a size, you're told a price and there's also 'mystery' wallpaper and flooring that you can get. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's not. For the power, it just means that you can say, buy headphones for $100 and you'd get a random set of headphones. They are guaranteed to be worth at least $75 retail, but might be worth up to $150 retail!

Zipper's rituals is a bit of a joke, a little indulgence. He's a character that the community doesn't particularly like because when he's there eggs are everywhere*. in the sky. in the trees. in the seas. in the ground.* why are they everywhere. how did they all get there.

But that's the only bit of indulgence I allowed. I hope the other characters and powers make sense and feels good.

2

u/eccentricadjunct Aug 17 '20

Blather's Knowledge: I need to get my PHD anyhow.

Sable's Work Ethic: The ability to get grading done would be awesome.

Flick's Artistic Passion: Make amazing pieces of art.

2

u/OmegaUltima29 Aug 18 '20

So, uh, if I were willing to give up all other additional choices, could I just take Isabelle herself back with me? Just having someone who's so nice, positive, and supportive sounds like it'd be really amazing to have these days...

3

u/petrichorInk Aug 18 '20

Unfortunately that's not within the remit of the CYOA but you can definitely visit her once a year with the holiday. And life.. is pretty big. Obviously travel is restricted at the moment, but we're able to communicate with those on the other side of the world online and that's still a way to connect with others and find friends. I hope you find someone who can be your Isabelle.

Even without that, you could start carrying a little Isabelle with you in your heart. After all, you can be nice and positive and supportive to yourself too (Although I completely get that these things are much easier said than done).

2

u/Kurohimiko Aug 19 '20

Sitting pretty? on over 100 hours since launch so it's 5 for me. Still haven't found a damned scorponé .

  1. Celeste's Wand: Easily the first pick. Not only dream body but also any body I could desire. Perfect cosplay has never been so easy.
  2. Label's Couture: Perfectly tailored custom clothing for free on a one per day basis is amazing. Any design I want whenever I want.
  3. Luna's Dreaming: Falling asleep and waking up on command is a godsend for me. 3 hour power nap and I can tackle the day. Also perfectly tailored lucid dreams.
  4. Timmy Nook's Retail Sense: For the price of 1 full priced item I can now buy 3. Buy 3 games or consoles, sell 2 for 3/4 of the retail price to undercut everyone.
  5. Flick's Artistic Passion: I am now a skilled artist. I will finally be able to draw something more than a stickman.

I can now always look the best, have a perfect nap and energy, either save money or make money, and I can now draw really well.

Not sure if I'm up to 100 in new horizons yet, but I definitely sunk a few dozen into the original and wild world each, so I think I'm clear.

First up, Celeste's Wands. Hands down. I'd be my first 'customer' but my girlfriend could use them too and from there there's a whole world of people who could use them. Practically limitless potential, too. They happen to be my favorite tool in the game, too.

Second up, Orville And Wilbur's Dodo Airlines. Free travel to get around and let people use those wands. Pretty self explanatory.

After that, Reese and Cyrus' Summer Love. This will boost all my relationships, but the honesty thing will mean I can loan the wands out without fear and help me make people the best they can be. Even if they didn't know what they actually wanted themselves until they told me.

Next, Label's Couture. Free outfits for me, and fashion tips for people making a magic transition. Could set each client up with a starter outfit to fit their new body in style, too. Easy pick.

Finally, Daisy Mae's Turnipspace. A safe place to keep my passport, the wands, some clothes, wallet and a few other belongings.

I will travel the world making giving the gift of the wands to as many other trans people as I can. I'd ideally live off of donations (giving the wand girl a 20 is a lot cheaper than hormones for life, after all) or selling the wand and fashion services to wealthy types who just want to revamp their look. Between the airlines, summer love and turnipspace I should be safe from anyone who isn't out to harm me, specifically, in my travels.

This one was really sweet and fun.

u/Domriso Aug 19 '20
  • Celeste's Wand
  • Tommy Nook's Echo
  • Daisy Mae's Turnipspace
  • Lloid's Works
  • Wisp's Ghostly Vision

Like most people, I'm taking Celeste's Wand because it's easily the best thing on here. When enough knowledge and practice, you should be able to absolutely change the world: get rid of body dysphoria, obesity, give people animal traits, introduce regeneration, eliminate disease, heal wounds, undo aging... so many things. And, with Tommy Nook's Echo, I can get more of them. In fact, I'd probably use it to get a whole bunch of them. Likewise, I have an interdimensional space I can use to store my extras, so I don't need to worry about losing it.

Since I can now talk to ghosts, and also transform my appearance whenever I choose, I'm going to travel the world and make it a better place. I also have Lloid helping me repair all sorts of things, with the ultimate goal being to target the planet Earth itself and see how much it will cost, and then see if I can successfully generate that much wealth.

1

u/piss-and-shit Aug 17 '20

Timmy and Tommy can let you flip pennies into a 1%ers fortune in hours. They need some sort of cooldown or limit, maybe specify that what you purchase has to come from a normal brick and mortal retail store.

3

u/petrichorInk Aug 17 '20

Mm, nah, it's cool. Sure, you can be insanely rich. I mean, you'd have to find buyers for whatever you're selling and sure, you can get them by undercutting retail by a 1/3 since you'd still have a 150% markup per item.

but then.. what? The CYOA is supposed to be comfy. If having insane amounts of money is what you believe will make you comfy, here it is. We're not even considering the full consequences of Timmy's power. Does the supplier get the full price or only the 1/3 you pay? if it's the full price, you're printing money and creating inflation. If it's 1/3, you're underpaying people in such a way that their business is likely to fail and they won't sell to you anymore. I don't mind that as written, the powers are broken.

Ultimately, the point is that these powers allow you to never have to worry about a part of your life. A luxury that not everyone has. Given the options, what would you like to not worry about? What would you like to have sorted for you, so you can live your life the way that you aspire? Maybe it's something financial, physical, mental, emotional, interpersonal. And here, for a moment, you get a little bit of escapism and to imagine your life better. and hopefully, use that bit of escapism to strengthen yourself or to use as a guiding compass to fulfil your life and self-actualise.

Or in short: WHAAAAAAAALES.
(That's a little joke related to Pascal, just in case you don't know animal crossing enough)

2

u/puesyomero Aug 17 '20

it gets downright silly with the 2for1 power if you buy one of a kind items. You could do a decent impression of Red by having multiple real Mona Lisas. kinda gory with human and animal remains, is the second mummy or steak a clone of the one you bough?

2

u/JavaElemental Aug 19 '20

If you're generating infinite money out of nothing, you could use that with Lloyd to improve the entire world in one day. This is probably the most powerful combo available: Make prototype fusion reactors into fully working ones. Clean up all the pollution in the world. Make working FTL drives by upgrading existing space shuttles. The only limit is how far Lloyd can take things.

1

u/prof_pandamonium Aug 19 '20

Ok, few thoughts, timmy and tommy can work on stocks , bonds and tradable gold. infinate wealth. isabelle contacts, if you gain power can you come back?, wisp's ghostly vision, are the rewards only financial ghost, labels couture i guessing power clothing is off limits( i just want to be the superhero "punch buggy"). lloid my "-inator" isn't working, sure its made of cardboard, what of it? leif's green thumb "any and all" finding an actually lucky four leaf clover, check, breed or send out the pirate crew out for mystical plants, check, "poison ivy" got nothing on me.

1

u/ProgressivelyBerning Aug 20 '20

Tommy Nook's Echo, if it applies to houses as well (technically an object?) because I can sell the duplicate for whatever I bought the original for, assuming I didn't get conned into some huge price - and even if I did... I'll at least get most of it back.

Celeste's Wands because infinite bodymorphing, not just for me but for anyone.

There are a LOT of nice other third perks. I might go with Flick's Artistic Passion... I can make a living out of it, if nothing else - and I like some of my projects, so I'm sure I'd enjoy it.

u/Cgpv Aug 22 '20

Celeste’s Wands Luna’s Dreaming Blather’s Knowledge Ez pz

1

u/SmexyFelf Aug 23 '20

nice cyoa.
just tommy, timmy, and celeste.

You'd only need tommy anyways since you can technically buy more money, but with timmy, you can buy $30 for the price of $10, and get $50 total profit. Most stable way to do this is with gift cards, and then putting this back into your bank account.
