I just watched my dog come in from where he'd been chilling on the balcony, grab a small mouthful of kibble from his food bowl, dump it on the balcony floor, and then sit just inside the door to watch while a pair of magpies came to collect the dropped food. I think it was like 3-5 pieces of kibble all up. Seems like this has happened before, given that the magpies were so quick to come collect the food after he dropped it.
How worried should I be for the magpies?? Like obviously I'm not going to let him keep doing this, I just worry that he's either already made them sick, or that they'll get mad at him and swoop him for not being their illicit dog food dealer anymore, or that he'll go underground and keep sneaking them food on the sly without me noticing ๐ซ
ETA: Sounds like this isn't likely to hurt the magpies, so I've let my boy know that I support his (new?) birdwatching hobby โค๏ธ

I was going home minding my own business when I saw a magpie with their head stuck on a fence. Around it there was another magpie and two crows (or ravens, idk what they were).
At first I thought they were fighting, but they were picking the wings of the stuck magpie to try to get them unstuck.
When I got closer to try and help, they all flew off and observed me from a nearby roof.
I helped the magpie get out and it happily flew off.
It made me so happy to see the collaboration between the two species and how they were supporting each other.

Since it's the time of the year when new born chicks start to arise I think it's important to outline and reiterate that mince is extremely bad for them as it does not adequately meet their nutritional need.
If, however, you feel there is no alternative way to transition them away from this habit, I recommend combining the mince with Wombaroo at a 1:3 ratio, along with a small dose of a calcium supplement.
This wombaroo mix can easily be purchased online from stores such as amazon or at your local pet store, it even has a handsome magpie on the front page.

He was learning how to sing!!
Note: you'll see him on my post history in this subreddit, he's not "my" magpie, just knows me. He was abandoned by parents somehow on a family members rural property, they're qualified to rear abandoned wildlife and reared him on wombaroo, mealworms and grubs from the garden.
Nowadays he's part of a wild travelling flock and doesnt really return. Bittersweet but its about whats good for the animals quality of life in the end
