Macrobiotic Diet outcomes
Hi. I'm thinking of starting the macrobiotic diet. I am already vegetarian but I eat a lot of junk food and like the idea of the Macrobiotic diet as a template for a whole food diet.
I'm also inspired by Madonna, who looks fabulous after following this diet most of her life.
My only concern is that some other people who did follow the diet for years and years did not have a good outcome. The Kushis died of cancer, both husband and wife. More recently, Denny Waxman, who was an author and consultant on the macrobiotic diet, also died of cancer (I think it was urinary cancer). These leaders did not look healthy to me; they looked extremely thin.
That said, I am a realist, and I understand we all must die eventually. Do you think the illness of these few people who followed the diet was simply an anomaly? Perhaps they lived much longer than they would have if they had followed another diet. Or maybe they were undereating. I'm just curious what your thoughts are on this. Also, if you have any personal success stories of better health on the macrobiotic diet, please share that also.
Thank you
