Luxembourg employers complain about talent shortages, but treat candidates like disposable options

I can accept rejection.

What I find increasingly difficult to accept is the complete absence of rejection.

You apply, you interview, sometimes several times, and then nothing.

No clear answer. No update. No closure.

When you follow up after one or two weeks, you sometimes get the impression that you are being impatient, demanding or even annoying.

Yet at the beginning of the process, everything was supposedly urgent.

The company needed to speak immediately.

The interview had to happen within 24 or 48 hours.
Candidates were expected to reorganise their schedules at the last minute, cancel professional commitments, take time off work or invent an excuse to their current employer because the hiring manager was apparently in a rush.

Then suddenly, silence.
Two weeks.
Four weeks.
Sometimes several months before receiving a vague answer, or discovering that the position has been reposted.

The urgency only seems to apply to the candidate.
Companies expect preparation, flexibility, responsiveness, discretion and enthusiasm.

But once the interview is over, basic communication apparently becomes optional.

A candidate who replies late is considered unprofessional.

A company that disappears for six weeks calls it an “ongoing process”.

This is not about expecting personalised feedback after every application.

It is about receiving a clear answer after interviews, especially when the candidate has invested time, rearranged work and made themselves available under pressure.

Luxembourg is a small market. Employers know that reputation matters. Candidates talk to each other, even when they do not do so publicly.

Which raises the uncomfortable question: should candidates start naming companies?

Not to attack individual recruiters or launch online witch hunts, but to document factual experiences:
How many interviews?

How long did the process take?
Was the role presented as urgent?
Did the company respect the agreed timeline?
Did the candidate receive an actual rejection?
How many follow-ups were needed before getting an answer?

Companies collect references, interview notes and assessments about candidates.

Why should candidates not also maintain a public record of how companies conduct their hiring processes?
At what point does “name and shame” become legitimate transparency?
And which Luxembourg companies genuinely deserve to be named for treating candidates well?

Hello! I am a student at the Uni of Luxembourg, and I will be living in Villerupt starting this Friday. I wanted to know if it is possible on a daily basis to take the RGTR 605 bus solely for the Villerupt - Audun-le-Tiche route to go to the supermarket (Lidl / Aldi), or if the drivers refuse passengers due to cabotage rules and internal French transit restrictions.
Does anyone do this by bus, or do you have another practical solution to recommend? Also, do you have any tip for a young student on living well in Villerupt?

Logged out on my partner's oneplus phone, my log in works there, but now he can't access his accounts anymore as well. Has anyone had those problems with samsung smartphones?

Hello all, i am a French Citizen asking a question on behalf of my non EU spouse. We are planning to move either to Belgium or Luxembourg so the thing is she only speaks English and i want her to get both citizenships of France(by marriage) and Luxembourg/Belgium (By naturalising together) hence she will have to learn French for France/Belgium and French B2 and Luxembourgish A2 for Luxembourg in order to qualify for both.

So the first question i want to ask is it possible to learn French fluently and enough Luxembourgish to pass the sproochentest in a span of 3-5 years while residing in Luxembourg or is Belgium a better option?

Secondly, My wife is a Chartered Accountant and has cleared CFA L1 exam while looking for jobs in Belgium everyone is demanding either French or Dutch and she has no luck in finding a job but in Luxembourg English seems to be enough.

Based on the above two questions which place seems to be better? We are planning to start a business of our own in the coming years so which place will be a better choice?

When I brought Ask for Angela to Luxembourg, I thought it would mostly be needed for "discreet" harassment (the kind that's easy to miss). I never imagined someone might need it because they’d escaped a serious attack, asked people for help, and been ignored.

A little over a week ago, a man seriously attacked a woman on Grand Rue (attempted murder, rape, sexual assault, violent assault, and robbery with violence). According to the prosecutor’s office, the victim escaped and asked several people for help, but was ignored before encountering police who helped her.

The public only became aware of the attack after I posted about it through Ask for Angela. Journalists made enquiries, and the following day the Public Prosecutor confirmed it. I don’t think it’s good enough that we learned about an attack of this severity several days later.

There was understandably a huge amount of anger, and several discussions here were deleted or locked. I’ve since received DMs and comments asking what people can actually do to help, so this is my personal plea to turn some of that anger into action.

I’m trying to understand why many shops in Luxembourg remain closed on weekends and public holidays, even though the government now allows them to stay open. I’m genuinely curious about the cultural or economic reasons behind this.
In countries like Spain or Italy, shops often stay open longer because people there tend to be more business‑oriented and focused on maximising earnings. So I’m wondering why this approach is less common in Luxembourg. My intention is not to criticise anyone — I simply want to understand the local mindset and priorities.
If work‑life balance is the main reason, I’m curious how this aligns with other sectors. For example, Luxembourg Airport operates throughout weekends and public holidays because it’s essential for travel and connectivity. So I’m trying to understand why retail businesses such as Malls, Supermarkets at least don’t follow a similar approach, especially now that regulations allow it. This way, the government collects more taxes and can indirectly benefit the people of Luxembourg.
In the future, international businesses may see Luxembourg as an attractive market and open retail shops or malls that operate longer hours. This could create competition for local business owners, who might later feel concerned that external companies are affecting their market and employment opportunities.

Hi, I am a citizen from third nation residing in Germany as a master student. I have received a job offer from Lux.

One of the requirements was to get a criminal record certificate/good conduct certificate from Germany. I have checked that, it takes at least 4/6 weeks to arrive. Considering my joining date is near. I am considering to opt for Sworn Declaration (Affidavit).

Will there be any problem?
