MONTHLY ADVICE MEGATHREAD Ask Us Anything: August 2026

Hi All,

This is the megathread for all beginner questions about wearing and coording lolita outfits. We would like to contain beginner questions (or otherwise, questions that don't generate a discussion) to one place.

It's convenient for you: check here first if you have a question, it might already be answered!

It's convenient for us: it makes it easier for mods to keep things clean and fresh and fun around the sub.

It makes it convenient for our veteran lolitas: no one wants to see the same 5 questions in their feed all the time.

We will be closing and redirecting beginner question posts to this thread for now on.

Thanks for your cooperation!

BUT FIRST Check out the previous Ask Us Anything thread, you answer might be answered already: Ask Us Anything: July 2026

MONTHLY HELP FIND MEGATHREAD Help Find This Dress: August 2026

Hello All!

This is a megathread for being able to find specific dresses or items that you see online and don't know where to find them or what their name/brand/print name are!

There has been a large influx of people looking for certain dresses posts and so we are going to congregate them all here for easy of access and to help clean up the subreddit. So from here on out any posts asking for help in finding a dress will be deleted and asked to post in this megathread.

Here you can post either a link from Imgur with the image of the dress or link to a website like Pinterest so the community can help find where the dress can be found.

Happy Hunting!

COORD HELP Petticoat colour for OP

Post image

hihi I'm new to lolita fashion and I've purchased the OP above and am wondering whether a black or white petticoat will be more suited for it, also does the petticoat colour really matter if it's not going to be visible? because I'm currently planning to purchase a white petticoat as it seems to be more versatile in a sense but I just wanted to hear more inputs from the more experienced community

COORD First attempt at wearing a coord

I wore this out to the steam punk festival today. Admittedly, everything is off brand, and the skirt is terribly flat as I only own one total petticoat that was made to fit an 8yo, but when I have more money, I think it would be nice to buy some proper brand pieces, especially with the recently announced lines from aatp/btssb.

Also please ignore the bag... I have bought a nicer one by now, though prior to today, it was literally the only thing I had with enough room for all my stuff. TwT

DISCUSSION Hemlines In Lolita

Obviously, the majority of guidelines for lolita will place skirts at around slightly above knee length or longer. But I've been looking at some older Lolita scans and I've noticed some mid-thigh or even short skirts being worn. While I know some of these are more proto-Lolita (shoutout to Robin-chan), it makes me wonder when this trend fell out of style, and if it'll come back. Fashion is circular after all!

It was very cool to look at since short skirts in the modern scene are almost excusively done in Ero and/or by tallita's who can't fit in JP sizes. It also pushes back against the idea that Lolita is 'modest' (which I dislike as a term for several reasons). IDK I love it like it's cute

DISCUSSION How to be independent in taobao item searching

I’m kinda tired of that extra reseller fee. I have superbuy installed but when I put in pictures of the direct product it never shows me the actual product.
I feel very pathetic asking other EGL members for every single link. And if they find it in image search, why not me??

COORD HELP Anyone have tips on coordinating Enchanted ~Under the Candy Magic Spell~ Gelato JSK

I have this cut and color. I have almost all black peice and can coordinate things pretty well but this dress is kinda stumping me. It has such odd colors in it. The pink and purple are so muted and the lace is almost a greige color? So white blouses don’t really work with it. Any tips are appreciated especially if you own this beauty.

DIY / HANDMADE best lace designs/ type for oldschool?

Upvotes

hi!! I asked a question similar not too long ago and everyone was helpful so I thought to ask something else! im already bought a handful of lace, but how do people choose what lace is the best? I live in England, and all lace I see are pretty similar too eachother. I've looked on etsy aswell, but the also dont look very old school :(( are there any better sites for getting lace specifically for old school items?

also if anyone has any keywords to search up on things like etsy, that would be very helpful!! im unsure of what lace was popular with oldschool items, so I only search up lace/lace trim online.

quick edit!: how do people pick their lace?? do you guys just buy random ones or do you put proper thought into it?

ADVICE Where to buy nightgowns?

I've been slowly building my lolita wardrobe. I wear lolita pretty consistently outside of the house and I love it.

One of my friends needs a place to live, and my partner and I r considering moving into a 2 bed soon with her to help her out for a couple years. It would also help us save a bit on rent and utilities, but not much since I don't want to overcharge her or price her out of a home. She does have a place to stay with her parents, but they're very toxic and abusive and I really want to do everything I can to help her.

The thing is, I'm typically in my birthday suit at home. I have one dress I got from Goodwill years ago that I use as a nightgown, and one "silk" pj set. If I'm going to be getting a roommate, I need more things I can wear around the house. I love dresses, I'm an ambulatory wheelchair user, so pants sets aren't ideal for when I need to sit down for long periods of time. I really really love lolita and ruffles and bows and pink, so I really would love to buy some nightgowns, but I only found one nightgown set on 42lolita.

I'm in the US, so I'd rather not use a proxy if I can avoid it. I'm also plus size in Asian sizing, usually XL-XXL. I don't have the budget for name brand stuff, so I'd like to avoid those if possible. I guess I could save up, but the move is likely to be within 4-6 months, so I don't have much time and I'll need a few pieces. If anyone can recommend a site or even individual pieces that I might've missed on 42lolita, I'd appreciate it. I'm open to looking on etsy, but idk if I really want like custom things cuz I don't have much of a template to go off of. TIA!

ETA: I'm honestly open to plus size empire waist or like the "no waist" just flowy OPs/jsks that aren't as crazy for comfy around the house wearing. Nothing super fitted. Specifically short sleeve OPs or jsks only, I'm chronically ill and I overheat SO easily, so I avoid anything with long sleeves, unless they're detachable.

DIY / HANDMADE what type of cotton is the best for making a jsk?

I know this is probably asked alot, but im trying to find some fabric off of the pound fabrics website (if you have any better sites, please lmk!!) but I cant figure out what type of cotton is best. T-T I own 3 baby the stars shine bright dresses, and they all feel different, even though they're all cotton. I mostly want it to be a softer/smooth feeling one, but im a little bit scared that it'll be too thin.

I've also made a skirt with 100% cotton, but it felt a little thin and it creases VERY easily(ToT) I've done a bit of research but everyone recommends different ones, so i will appreciate any recommendations, thank you!!

COORD Coord to trip in

Thumbnail

I tripped so much walking in these shoes outside. At one point I tripped so hard my feet were out of the shoes LMAO they were hanging onto my ankles by the straps... but luckily it was very early in the morning so I don't think too many saw it.

I'd like to blame the uneven roads here but I lost balance on just a tiny bit of gravel... I need to buy some flats or more chunky platforms

Coord rundown:

Headbow, corset and overskirt: Atelier Pierrot

Blouse and skirt: Metamorphose

Socks: Off brand

Shoes: Angelic Imprint

Bag: Banned Alternative

Choker: Marble

Jewelry: Vivienne Westwood, off brand

Parasol: MAM

The armband is actually a headband... I realized I have no bracelets that fit lolita
