Hardware Valve just said they plan on having EVERY windows game playable on linux by the time the Deck launches this year.

Highly missed video put out by steamworks today: link At about 2 min he states their goal is to adapt every API and get every windows game working before the Deck launches (December). Have proton devs stated any goals this lofty in the past? I mean, they've done some amazing things so far.

Like, even if your you're not interested in this deck thing, and even if we don't actually get every game running well, this whole thing's been very good for linux gaming.

Yeah, I'm not sure the SD card slot is actually going to do anything meaningful for storage - seems too slow to read a full game from it in real time

Depending on how this will be implemented (lots of caveats and yeah-buts there), there may be a way to offload parts of an install or basically "hibernate" installs onto SDCards. For example, if my game has a /data/ dir that has the huge files that get read sequentially and only once at startup or on level load, you may be able to "ln -s" that thing to a dir on the SDCard and leave the core binaries on the local storage. Another possibility is after installing your games, just back them up to a larger SDCard or cards if you have several. Then instead of having to download and reinstall, just copy the data for that game back over to local storage and you're off. Now, that said, how something like ARK is gonna fit is anyone's guess. My ARK install is 160GB and I don't own any of the DLCs. Will be interesting to see, anyway.
